The chatter around town according to my in-laws is that this place is under new management. My wife and I were sent in to scope out the joint. Upon first glance the recovery room doesn’t seem to be anything special. Set in the shadow of Lawrence and memorial hospital you wouldn’t expect high quality dining or stellar service but don’t let the location fool you. This place is home to one of my favorite meals… the Chilean sea bass. I’m happy to say that he ownership shakeup had no ill effects on my dining experience. Everything was excellent. The service was great which is a big thing for me. Everyone’s food came out as ordered and looked great. The only negative here is sometimes the area around the bar becomes cramped. Ask for the dining room and make a reservation for your next great meal at the recovery room.

Visit 1, asked how long, they said 30 minutes for pickup — was actually 45 minutes. Another customer ahead of me still had to wait after I left. Red pizza had no mozzarella cheese, just some sprinkled parmeson. That’s not really pizza, so it was soggy. Visit 2, Deceptive advertising. Ordered off of the online menu and then learned the price was another three dollars more. $ 27 is a lot for a take-out steak. The steak was good, but not $ 27 good. Probably will not return.

The problem is understaffing, the only reason I did not give 5 stars. If I call ahead to take out a pizza and am the only person waiting at the pick up counter when my food should be ready, it can still be a 10 awkward minute wait before my existence is acknowledged. I had an employee working behind the bar where the pick up counter is look right at me, go clean dishes from a table across the room(there was nobody waiting to be seated), have a quick laugh with a fellow waitress, return a text(I’m assuming), then come back to the counter and ask me what my take out order was. The food is easily 5 stars– and the only reason they still have my business.

Went here with family on Sunday night, trying to find a new place to eat. Surprised we’ve never been, despite living in EL for at least 14 years. I ordered a cheeseburger, and enjoyed it. I’m not a fan of chips on the side, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy them.

I keep trying new places for pizza and find nothing that compares in the area. I wish I could find somewhere that measured up because I hate being a regular at places. Despite my fear, I will keep ordering!

Not anymore! Now there is new owners! My pizza was horrible! After Changing hands for third time it went from okay to yuck! Pizza works in old Saybrook kept same consistency! Sucks that I will have to drive all the way there to get what it’s suppose to be!!!

After dropping by Dunkin a few times and both eyeing and smelling what was going on in the Recovery Room, we made a few passes through and fell in love. The food here is solid, the location easily accessible, and the wine list delightful. On our first visit, we just ordered pizza. Husband had the Thai Chicken($ 13.75), and I had the daily special which was a Broccolini, Chicken and Roasted Garlic($ 14.75). Thai pizza was unlike anything I’ve ever tasted, both savory and spicy, with ample peanut sauce and tender chicken. My broccolini pizza was a little on the boring side, but was well cooked and had heavy toppings. I was completely jealous of his pizza, and routinely stole toppings off his while he wasn’t looking. On our second trip, we started with the amazing Olive Bread($ 7.25), topped with perfectly cooked onions and many olives. Our main course was the Bacon and BBQ Chicken pizza($ 13.75), which we asked for with light bbq sauce as to not overwhelm the flavors with too much sweetness. We loved it, and were happy with the choice. For dessert, my husband encouraged me to try the Derby Pie which I had never had before, and was quite good although very sweet. In addition to great food, they have many of our favorite California wines by the glass including the deliciously balanced Francis Ford Coppola Pinot Grigio, which pairs so nicely with Italian. The wait has always been quite long on our dining trips here, although the waitresses, while being mostly young and spunky, take a long time to serve and clear tables. I love having this dependable and affordable staple locally, with much private lot parking in the back, and easily accessible parking in the front. From discussions with local residents, I’ve heard from many that this is a well-loved restaurant for the seniors to youngsters alike. Close to the hospital, schools, and much of the downtown, this is prime for repeat customers and families on those days where dinner hasn’t been planned. I’d love for them to get their timing down for serving and clearing though, which is a pretty considerable pain.

Have eaten here mostly for lunch & usually for take out. Their Asian chicken salad is delicious! They make really good pizza too. It’s an office favorite for lunch.

Food was delicious and very reasonably priced. The antipasto salad was huge. The bolognese sauce was among the best I’ve had.

I am currently post-thanksgiving-dinner-feast-worthy full from a salad right now. Yes a salad. Let that blow your mind. I’m writing this as I patiently wait for my food baby to disappear. I’m serious. Even after unbuttoning AND unzipping my pants, had to take said pants off and put leggings on to try and feel more comfortable. I just inhaled a blacksmith salad with chicken from this place and it was unreal. When I say inhale, I mean I didn’t breath or talk while my boyfriend sat, also silent, inhaling his bacon, spinach and tomato pizza. I’m from Westerly, RI originally and am a huge Pizza Place fan. Well when I learned the owner of PizzaPlace learned everything he knows from the Recovery Room, I knew it had to be good. So thankful my boyfriend lives in Groton and that I’m from westerly because we will never be without incredible pizza or salad.

I am a New York pizza Gal!!! So trying pizza that is too«crazy or unique» is always an experience! We tried a few different pizzas for the group, which I recommend. There are so many to choose from, its fun to get smaller sizes pizzas and try lots of them. The eggplant pizza was my fav!!! The veggies were cooked really well, not too tough or soggy! The shrimp and artichoke pizza was interesting. I ended up eating the shrimp off the top then eating the rest of the pizza. Shrimp on pizza is a bit too cooky for me. Everyone liked the BBQ chicken pizza. The sauce was sweet. Cant comment on service, as we got the pizzas to go. We called the order in and they were ready in about 25 minutes.

After hearing rave reviews from everyone I know, my mom and I decided to check out this local landmark which has been in business around 30 years. Good decision. The food was simply amazing! I ordered the Thai Chicken pizza which was one of the best I have ever had in my life. Imagine this enormous pie which has a ranch dressing and olive oil base, covered in chunks of white meat chicken, chopped garlic, scallions, fresh basil, white wine, cheddar cheese and finished off with a heavenly peanut sauce. With every bite, you get the perfect blend of salty and sweet and I swear I could taste just a hint of honey. I was moaning in ecstasy throughout the meal. Remember that restaurant scene from«When Harry Met Sally?» It was sort of like that. My mom ordered the Chopped Pasta salad which came in a bowl large enough to sit inside and have a party. Seriously, there was enough food here to feed a starving refugee family for a week! This is their Gorgonzola salad stepped up with chopped pasta, chicken breast, lettuce, red onions, mushrooms, tomatoes and bacon, complete with a tangy balsamic dressing. Tip: ask for the dressing on the side so you can enjoy the leftovers at home for the next WEEK! The décor is beautiful and although the tables are a bit close together, it gives you the sensation of dining with a large family. Service was very friendly and efficient. Prices were quite fair for the quality and quantity. Whether you’ve just been discharged from nearby L&M Hospital or you merely wish to slip into a euphoric food coma, this is definitely the place to recover or recharge your batteries. Thank you, Recovery Room!

BAAAAAM I like olives. They have lots of olives here. And garlic. And fresh soooo fresh a foodzee! In all honesty, recovery room is a place you take the Saturday night wife to, not the Friday night girlfriend. I love the waitstaff, older, mature, an know the product. Not your Applebee’s or round robin servers. Sit in the dining area if you want to have a discussion on the nurses striking across the street at the hospital. You will be hard pressed on the bar side, but the bar side is so much fun. Its where strangers are sharing dishes with their neighbors because what *they have* looks good! Can you tell I love this place???
