You have not really hiked or camped unless you have done both here! Deceptively named by the townships founders to discourage visitations by poachers(who were the 18th century version of Yankees fans) Thousand Acre Swamp is not actually a swamp at all! But one of the most beautiful lakes in all of New England. Situated in the rural wild South Berkshire county hills, down a rustic country road, the lake is almost completely surrounded by a nature preserve, giving the landscape more of a feel of the untamed Canadian Wilderness rather then Southern New England. The VERY large lake itself is as perfect for kayaking or canoeing as thewonderful woodland trail that encircles the lake is for hiking or running. Doing both you will encounter a wide variety of wild life: Moose, Deer, Bears, Fox, and the occasional coyote(but don’t worry: they only attack Yankees fans who they rightly recognize as fellow wild animals, but always just run away from normal humans) And hundreds of variety of birds!(which is a good thing: because the birds eat all the bugs making hiking here a delight!) The tranquil shores of the lake are ideal for camping! Clean, safe, and with lots of fire wood readily abundant to warm your self at night! Behind just about every one of the ginormous trees is a wide variety of wild flowers and delicate flora! It is any camper’s dream brought to life! For sustenance on your camping trip, Thousand Acre Swamp is a paradise for fishing! The lake it self is populated with a plethora of Pickerel and Big mouth Bass(both fun to catch) but much better for eating is that the pristine streams that feed into the lake are stocked with legions of Brook and Rainbow trout!!!(see picture) Easy to catch, easy to clean, easy to cook and utterly delicious, rainbow trout are actually very good for you(full of all the stuff you pay big money for at GNC)! The only thing better then rainbow trout pan fried with farm fresh potatoes over an open camp fire for dinner, is waking up the next morning in your cozy tent, besides the lake, to the brilliant shimmering sunrise reflections off the water, the enchanting serenade of the morning birds, the sweet smell of lilacs in the air, and breakfast of Scrambled eggs and sausage(which will give you all the energy and enthusiasm you will need for the days hiking ahead!)
