Went for lunch over the weekend. Disappointing experience. Key was that our waitress appeared to care less that we were there. Sort of expensive as well for being in downtown New Miford. In the future, I will go into Brookfield(yes, make the trip) for better food at the same price.

We visited Salsa on a very busy night. It was apparent it was not expected. Service was a tad slow but every crew member was hustling so the wait didn’t bother us. We were initially greeted by the owner and he set us up with drinks. It was our first time so we asked to get a sample of all 4 salsa flavors offered. It was a nice change to have a choice instead of one salsa only. We were not charged for the chips and salsa like others noted. Maybe it was an oversight or freebie due to the wait. Our entrees were above average. I had a cheese enchilada and tostada. My husband had a quesadilla. By far my favorite thing was the habanero salsa. Nice bite, nice flavor and I took home a pint. The only negative was the noise. It seemed extremely loud.

No. I like Mexican food and eat it often. They charge for chips and salsa. The beef tacos were interesting. I didn’t like the taco bread. The beef was ok. No seasoning. The retried beans tasted like they opened a can of pinto beans and sprinkled cheese on them and stuck them in the oven to melt the cheese. The rice was undercooked. I’ve been to Mexico and Cozumel often. Jose would definitely say NO!

I have been in many Mexican/Southwestern restaurants and this is the only one that charges for the salsa that the others give you free! It is not as if this was a really upscale restaurant. The menu is nothing exceptional and the prices are on the high side for what you get. While the portions are on the large side the taste of the food is only average at best. Food took quite a while to arrive(which would have been acceptable if it tasted better when it did arrive). Also the booths are very uncomfortable.

I have to say I try to give restaurants the benefit of the doubt when it comes to unfavorable reviews. I tried to overlook the reviews at Salsa, and boy was I mistaken. After attending a full day high school swim meet, my daughter was famished. Our party of 4 was seated immediately, basically because no one was there… hint #1. We ordered chips and salsa to share. Not so much, a small basket of bagged cold chips served with a tiny soufflé cup of salsa. 5.50, come on, most Mexican restaurants give you them to enjoy while you are waiting! I ordered the shrimp and beef fajita. I have never seen a more scarce portion of food. 15.50, give me a break. There were 5 small shrimp and 3 pieces of thin beef, served with very soggy peppers and onions, and 2 tortillas that were so hard they cracked open when trying to wrap the fajita ingredients. The taco salad was not horrible, only it was enough for a toddler. The fish tacos my daughter got consisted of very dark fish which is not the most edible let’s be honest. So, overall, not a good experience at all. However the orange margarita was decent. $ 85.00 for 4 people, never again…

Ugh… I really want to be able to like Salsa. Be advised that they are not serving traditional Mexican cuisine, they are calling their food New Mexican, although I’ve spent plenty of time in New Mexico and I’d like to know where the green chili is on Salsa’s menu! I would call their food«watered down Mexican». Their food is alright, although if you are looking for spicy you will be disappointed. They basically have stewed beef, chicken and veggies which can be put into or onto some form of tortilla… burrito, fajita, taco salad, quesadilla, nachos. There are also sandwiches, burgers and soups. If friends invite me to go here I will go. However I have issues with the staff and some of their policies which ALWAYS make me annoyed when I do eat there. As MANY other Unilocalers have pointed out, you will not get complimentary chips and salsa while you wait. They cost around $ 4. You can order 10 drinks at the bar and a basket of freaking chips will never appear unless you buy it. I don’t get it, how can EVERYOTHERMEXICANRESTAURANT provide them for free except Salsa! It is annoying to MANY people, you’d think that they would remedy this, I know it is possible. Recently a friend ordered nachos, and the ratio of“sauce” to chips was off, so he asked for some more chips and sure enough, was charged $ 4! The staff easily wins the prize for rudest/dumbest staff in the area. If the owners are present it is not so bad, but they often appear to leave the restaurant in the hands of teenagers who are absolutely clueless. They hover near the wait station and ignore the customers. If you asks for something extra they will disappear into the kitchen and you will probably be done eating by the time they reappear. We have waited 1 hour for food and practically had to beg for water while we waited. Aloof and uncaring is the vibe the staff gives off. Never a smile, never an apology. You will probably have to walk over to them to get your bill. I love the location but wish that they would get it together and listen to their reviews and fix the issues.

Salsa is a really good, solid choice, especially for New Milford. Not sure I understand all of the negative reviews on here – my hubby and I have been there quite a few times and always enjoyed the food. They serve fresh, hot, tasty Mexican food. The prices are reasonable. The booths are comfortable. Service could be a little quicker and attentive at times, but it’s always super friendly. I’ve felt that some of the clientele dining in there has been ruder than any staff(I’m talking to you, roughneck kids, throwing food at each other! I’m talking to you, parents who joined in on the food fight!) I like Salsa. This place may not make me want to dance, but it does make me want to eat.

I ordered their fajita’s and chips and salsa. OTo go order, out the door at $ 24.37 Honestly cannot believe how small their portions are. If I had known I wouldn’t of went there. Their salsa verde is the worst I’ve ever had. I was able to fix their regular salsa with some chilies I keep in the freezer once I got home. Cannot believe I paid good money for a dinner that was small enough to be a side dish. Normally with fajita’s you get a pile of meat, peppers and onions then at least a salads worth of cold veggies like lettuce onion, tomato, cilantro, cheese, salsa and tortillas with a few pieces of lime. Their meal consisted of a small amount of meat with two or three pieces of green pepper and onion. A tiny bit of lettuce and tomato a little bit of cheese and a heaping amount of sour cream. The two tortillas wouldn’t even make two. It all fit in one tortilla and I even ordered 2 extra tortillas because I know usually I never have enough to hold all the food. The meat was seasoned well and the cheese was good, but I will not be going there again. I got $ 5.00 worth of fajita’s and chips for $ 24.37 so I’m NOT a happy camper. Feeling ripped off and I’m still not sure what I’m cooking for dinner…

It’s very good, just a little pricey. Small inside, but doesn’t bother me. Wish the«bar» area was a little bigger too in case you want to just sit up there and eat. The booths are a little outdated but maybe that adds to the cuteness of it. Their specials/non typical latin food is always very good.

I normally don’t write reviews and usually try and give a business the benefit of the doubt. Maybe it was an off day/night. I’ve come to this restaurant several times on the recommendation of friends and each time was disappointed. The food– is ok. Most of the items have very little flavor, not what I’d expect from«authentic Mexican» and guacamole appears to be an add on item for most of the food. No chips or salsa are served. The waitstaff– normally I’ll let things go but there are several staff in particular who I just find rude for the following reasons: — We are one of just a few groups in the restaurant, you can see our food plates are done and the baby we have is crying, stop talking in the corner and ask if we would like our bill. We shouldn’t have to come get you and ask for it. — I come in and say I have a few friends coming with me. You hesitantly seat me and then when my friends are late which is out of my control you rudely tell me you need this spot for a group coming in. Fair enough, I’ll move but easy on the attitude. Sorry I miscalculated how late they would be. — you hand me my food and expect me to take it instead of putting it on the table after you tell me the plate is hot(huh?!?) — our orders come out with items missing or wrong. You bring out our corrections and don’t apologize for the mistake? — when you come to our table you ask if we are ready. I hear you but the couple we are with do not because you were talking quietly. When they continue to look at the menu. Instead of being polite your body gestures and statement«I’ll come back» appear to us as annoyed. Then when we have questions about the menu it again appears that it’s annoying to have to answer them. We are again there at an off time and things are fairly quiet. I’d understand if we were being too slow and it was a busy night but, it was the middle of the day.

Ordered the chicken burrito and it was the worst I’ve ever had, ever. Wife got the chicken salad wrap and it was pretty good. Service is bad. Cost is neither expensive nor economic.

Cinco de Mayo fell on a Monday this year. Salsa is regularly closed on Monday. Regardless, what Mexican restaurant is closed on Cinco de Mayo? Lol. Only in New Milford. I’ve eaten here a number of times before. The food is ok as is the service. I question the owners business decisions. The above example is one. For years at their prior location they didn’t accept credit cards. Now, if you order chips and salsa and want extra salsa they charge a dollar extra for a small metal cup. Not even a bowl. The owner says it’s because people order it and don’t eat it do to avoid waste she charges for it. Really? It’s salsa! And I don’t know of ANY other restaurant that does this. I love Mexican food and they are super close for me but still my last choice for it. I’ll travel to Danbury first. The Mex places there just get it.

Roasted Vegetable Quesadilla was fab with their homemade Chipotle Salsa. And the combo platters are excellent. We used to go to Salsa when it was in a smaller place around the corner. The current place on Bank St. is really nice and they have a full bar and fresh squeezed Margaritas.

unless your sitting at the bar and having dinner there, please be prepared to wait for everything. I’ve never been to a place where they bring you a plate of food so hot that it’s barely cooled off by the time your done with your dinner. The dish was so hot I could barely get my hands next to it without getting singed by the corners. The service was awful getting a couple of glasses of water took forever. It made me feel like I was keeping the waitress from helping more important people. When we were finally was ready to leave I told my fiancé to have his card ready so that when she brought the bill over he could just give it to her so we wouldn’t have to wait forever for that too. We have been her before the food it just ok, the menu is lacking, I find it to be more of a mexican’t restaurant with a name like Salsa they could have done so much more.

the Fish tacos were really nothing to talk about. I have had many fish taco’s around the country and these were not exciting. The chicken and cheese dish my wife ordered was very good. The margerita was good. The sangria was also good. Service was slow.

It gets point for being different and kind of charming in its own way. Also, for being a casual option in New Milford that isn’t delegated to a shopping strip. That said, this is some of the blandest Mexican food ever. There’s nothing wrong with it, per se. It’s fresh and obviously homemade. But it completely lacks flavor. If it was possible for Mexican food to become more Americanized than Texmex or Calimex, this is it. Salsas are decent, but a little on the expensive side. For a place of its name, I would have hoped for at least a basic salsa and chips in unlimited form like most restaurants. Or at least the first batch on the house. Also, service speed is, ahem, relaxed. And it’s cash only. There’s really no alternatives in the area for Mexican food anymore, so if you’re in a pinch — it’ll do. Just don’t expect greatness.

Surprised by the negative reviews. Been coming here for years. Always found the owners and staff to be pleasant and care about their food. Their homemade salsa is excellent. The fajitas never disappoint. The free chips complaints are funny, go to a chain restaurant for stale handouts and jar salsa. This isn’t that kind of place.

This Bank Street location is relatively new for them. It was necessary to take on the extra room. Food is excellent and the service is great. Watch them hustle when the restaurant is full. You need reservations F-Sun, and sometimes evenings during the week. I always call when I am going in the evening. I was there for Saturday lunch and it was full but we did not have to wait long. If you have to eat at the bar, it is comfortable seating and fast service. People are friendly and we had a great dinner at the bar before crossing the street to take in Argo. Enjoy!

I thought long and hard about whether to post my review or not. But decided to in hopes that Salsa Management would see this and make some changes. Went there the other day with my family to the new location. Was very excited to try out the new place for the 1st time. At the old location, Salsa was my favorite place to eat. So, we sit down for lunch and it took about 10 minutes for the waitress to come over and ask for drinks. We put in our order for drinks and an app. Drinks came 10 minutes later — App came ½ hour later. We ordered ordered our meals when our drinks came… The app was the Nachos, which was not that many chips for Nachos as we had before, a little disappointing. Here is the bad part — our meals came 1 hour after we ordered them, maybe longer. In the meantime nobody came over for a drink re-fill or offer free salsa and chips as an apology for the long wait. Our food comes and it was OK but the wait took forever. All the time most of the waitresses including ours were huddled around the new ordering system. I would think they would have training before moving over. We were there for a total of 1 hour 45 min for lunch — way too long. I was very upset leaving the place — this was my favorite restaurant. I spoke to some of my friends about it and they had similar issues as me. I REALLY liked the old place. If the new place is going to be like this then they should have never moved. I also hope they improve the décor, the old place had cactuses and that homey tex-mex feel — not this new place, Hopefully that changes. I really hope management sees this and doesn’t take it the wrong way and makes some changes or this place will not last I am sorry to say. Also, why don’t they GIVE Salsa and chips when you are seated? That would go along way when you have to wait for food. Thank you for your time, Steve in New Milford

From a Five to a Two. I’m always in favor of expansion or change but it should be for the better. The new location is nice, space is good and the addition of a full bar is welcome. Unfortunately what has been lost is the small feel and exceptional service that made Salsa such a hit. The food luckily did not take a hit and is highly recommended. If they can get back to the great service, or if you’re lucky to have the original staff, it’s worth the time.
