Great experience with a small birthday cake. Staff was helpful and cake delicious. We went with yellow cake and strawberry filling! Also grabbed a chocolate chip cookie to go — both great!

Cozy, friendly, and they make my fave off-menu espresso drink. Opens 7 a.m. and there’s plenty of on-street parking if you’re coming from out of town.

Only thing around for a moderate selection of freshish baked goods. Pretty expensive, even for new Paltz. Microwave eggs and don’t make them a second passed 11am. I think they turn the microwave off at 11 on the dot. Outdoor seating is cool. Coffee is okay. I would go to Hudson coffee trader down the road and try some of their stuff. But the bakery will suffice on multiple occasions.

I used to be a regular at this place, but I’ve visited for the last time. Besides the inconsistent food prep staff(eg many have zero customer service skills), the food I had last week was horrible. The staff needs to be trained on basic food prep. 2 friends and I had veggie quesadillas and they were so soggy and gross that we threw them out. The surly counter guy who took our order and prepared our food put the guac inside the tortilla rendering the entire thing a soggy, heaping mess. Plus, we had to wait FOREVER for him to prepare 3 veggie quesadillas. He certainly wasn’t the most efficient… I’m done coming here. This place needs to train counter staff on basic customer service and food prep skills.

I visit The Bakery every morning for their bagels. They have, by far, the best baked goods in town. I also love their Paninis and sandwiches. Their loft and outdoor seating provide plenty of seating within a comfortable environment. Truly a unique place in town.

I absolutely adore this place, they have the best bagels, the best sandwiches and the best coffee in town. Not to mention their baked goods are ALWAYS on point. Try the Pacific Coast Highway panini. Their staff is helpful and will remember you! They are busy all the time but some how manage to make your experience with them quick and personal. Its the best place in New Paltz for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Especially if your a local on the go or a college student looking for a quick bite. GOHEREITSGREAT.

I have gone to the Bakery for years! Amazing place for a nice breakfast, lunch, or even an early dinner. They have a new sandwich menu which is delicious. I love the outdoor seating area. Can’t miss if you come to New Paltz.

I really want to like The Bakery and give it a great review, however, the best descriptor word I can come up with for this establishment is inconsistent. The baked goods are very good, as are the soups, bagels, and pre-made dishes(tortellini with pesto, salads, etc.). The counter help ranges from pleasantly friendly and helpful to downright rude, and this is reflected in some of the offerings, such as the sandwiches, wraps, and coffee drinks. I find some of the other customers to be extremely pushy, rude and inconsiderate. While I am aware that the actions of some of the patrons have nothing to do with the people who work at the Bakery, I have to say I really do not appreciate someone pushing ahead of me in line(or allowing their children to cut in line), then having this person be waited on «out of turn» after waiting patiently. It is easy for people to push in front of others here, and children often(understandably) are excited by the cookies in the case, and run ahead of other customers to take a look, but it is rather frustrating when their parents act the same and push in front of others who have been waiting 10 or so minutes when it’s busy, and show no consideration for the other customers. Maybe a number system can be utilized to make sure everyone is helped in the order they are waiting? Maybe I’m super sensitive to folks who don’t have manners and cut in line, something we all(presumably) learned not to do in grade school?(Although I highly doubt I’m the only one who is bothered by other adults’ bad manners). Absolutely First World problems, I know, but inconsistency in customer service and rude behavior are what keep people from returning to and patronizing a small business.

Ah, the bakery. My favorite place to eat in town. I grew up in this establishment, from only getting a cupcake and a chocolate milk after preschool to grabbing my lunch on the way to college. I absolutely adore this place and the people in it. The staff is friendly and listens to your needs and concerns, and the food is delicious. Their sandwiches are hearty and filling, their salads and soups are just as good, and the sweets… Well… Let’s just say that I put myself at risk. I am allergic to nuts, but I still order my favorite cookie every time(the chocolate linzer tart) even though I’m sure it’s made with almond flour. Or, try the peanut butter brownie warmed up. All in all, the Bakery is the place to eat. Nice upstairs with comfy booths or during the warmer season, outside tables. Very nice.

I’ve been enjoying the Bakery for as long as I can remember. It’s secret amongst New Paltz locals that this is the best place to eat in town. The food and treats are beyond stellar – baked fresh everyday – the coffee is always perfect, and the atmosphere is not just warm and friendly, but also deeply community oriented. If you want to truly know New Paltz, you’d better get yourself a strawberry cream-cheese croissant and go sit in the garden at the Bakery.

Came here after the dude at Main St Bistro was so rude I walked out before eating. Food was good, coffee was good, but the service was excellent – friendly and sincere.

Their whole wheat everything bagels are my favorite, especially with veggie or scallion cream cheese. Was never impressed with the breakfast sandwiches. Comfortable upstairs dining area; their walls display the work of local artists. Outdoor eating area as well. Awesome rainbow cookies. Mac n’ cheese cups too!

I keep going back here wanting it to be good. Should just keep the grill on all day and serve bacon egg and cheeses. Overpriced

Not to be too unkind but the people who have given this place good reviews have either fun college hangover memories or really, really, mediocre standards, i. e, fine with Mobil Gas food, etc. They are reviewing the«nice atmosphere» and«nice people» which granted is… well, nice. It’s a bummer, this place could be so great. The people are nice. There are some bakeries — sadly this is one — where everything just tastes like cardboard. Croissants are basically dinner rolls and the cookies all taste basically the same, and the coffee is weak, the cappuccino is basically just café con leche — no proper foam. Hot cross roll is a dinner roll with frosting on it. bagels are almost ok. SOUPS are not Terrible(took me a year to figure this out). halfway through your food, you realize the person who made this has not traveled. And you want so badly for the people who work there to taste the REALTHING and go «OHHHHHhhhhhhhh THIS is a croissant.» And«This is a cup of coffee.» Since we’ve made such strides in these areas over the last 30 years in America. But alas… UPDATE: COFFEENOWWEAKERTHAN7 – 11OFFICIALLY. Kids working there are always nice.

I want to love this place. Food great. Location great. But the coffee is TERRIBLE, which is inexcusable in this day and place. Also, the place always smells of burnt toast and so do its patrons.

Oh the bakery. I miss this place! Such a cute addition to New Paltz. It’s a great place for when you wanna do homework outside and get off campus. There’s not too much seating and not too big of a place, but it’s adorable. They have great pastries… I love their simple butter/shortbread cookies and their coconut macaroons. YUM. Also, I ordered a cake for a friend(when I was abroad in Ireland… yes across the ocean.) And the woman who helped me was so wonderful. She knew I was on a time limit and ordered the cake and my friend picked it up with no problem. My whole surprise birthday cake from abroad worked out perfectly and all with the help of The Bakery staff.

I haven’t been to the bakery in a few years because I felt that the prices were too high, and the quality was not, and I was repeatedly disappointed by the stale cakes. I returned recently for lunch and again was disappointed. The chicken was very dry and the side salad tiny. My husband had a tiny piece of quiche with a side salad. I don’t understand the appeal of this café, except maybe for coffee and so so pastries.

I used to eat at the Bakery a lot when I was in college at New Paltz. My go-to was always the chicken sandwich. I still try to eat a meal there every time I’m visiting friends in the area. The lines don’t seem to be as long as they used to be, out the door all the time. And I’ve never had a hard time with the staff. They are very friendly, and will make your sandwich any way you like it. You have your choice of whatever fresh bread or roll they have available. No additional charge for things like lettuce, cheese, tomato, sprouts, or guacamole. (Their guacamole is phenomenal by the way.) This past weekend I tried their housemade quinoa and black bean salad. It had a great taste, and there was a generous helping served into my small order. My friends ordered the fruit salad, and the potato salad(which was especially delicious made with vinegar base instead of mayonnaise). They have an adorable, quiet outside eating area, and it’s a great relaxing meal. While their food really doesn’t compare to the Main Street Bistro a few doors down, you are guaranteed to not have to wait as long for a table, and there are always great, fresh options.

I’m amazed that this place has so many reviews. I’m not amazed by the ones that are poor. I’m giving 3 stars b/c it seems to be a local mom and pop shop and the food looked good. Still, I’ll go into the details. I was on a hike, yoga, wine adventure … I love to hike, I love to have wine, I do NOT love yoga. In fact, I detest yoga. I prefer my trainers to be fit not prepubescent looking women who chirp and giggle. So my fellow hikers went to do yoga and I was thrilled to check out New Paltz by myself. First it’s the size of a stamp. I was impressed by the variety of restaurant choices; Thai, Sushi, and Indian were amongst even more choices. There were two great thrift shops and several antique places. Fun! I stopped in the bakery. Ouch. There were four people ahead of me and four workers. Each worker took an order from each person(this is what happens when you leave the boroughs — it takes one person for each order), no muli-tasking! Three people ahead of me getting wraps, 3 different staff making the sandwiches. The woman ahead of me asked for a cake with Happy Birthday, the worker explained that she needed to use another color because the tube broke. The tube broke because she was holding it like an excited monkey holds a banana. I wished the woman good luck. The worker then proceeded to touch the cake repeatedly with her bare hands. You can trust it was gross if the local New Paltz patron had to address it which she did. Still, it’s a local business and the food looked genuinely good. If I ever lived in the middle of nowhere and this was an option, I’d go back with patience as a virtue.
