This is a great place. Warm welcome from the manager and staff. And I always get fresh food. It’s takes a while for the food but who cares it’s fresh food.

Sugarplums catered my 36 year Vow Renewal. I was very pleased with the delicious food. All of my guest, over 100 people, bragged about how delicious the food was. I have a visitor visiting me from Virginia this month and a visit to Sugarplums is on her agenda. I believe that customer service can be improved. Especially, in the way guest are greeted and responded to. But in my reading other reviews, I believe that area has improved. God Bless the owner and hard workers. Cooking«Soul Food» is a lot of work. I had many dishes and they all were delicious. I am taking my husband dinner in about 45 minutes.

This is by far the best food in New Rochelle hands down! Just be aware you should totally call your order in ahead of time — You cannot rush perfection as they make everything fresh! I would give them a 5 out of 5 but, they do not currently take card & The customer service portion of the store could be enhanced just a tad. Overall a good process(I work in the car industry customer service is vital) Definitely Try suggarplums two thumbs up! –KEN

Wow. Wow and wow. The food here is off da chain! I came here on a Friday night and dined in; food was so good I came back for take out the following weekend. With that out of the way, let me breakdown what’s really going on here: first of all, this is a very, VERY, casual dining restaurant if you’re going to be dining in. This is not Alvin and Friends. If you’re looking for really good food without all the pomp and circumstance of a fine dining experience, then this is the place to go to. I’d say 95% of their business is take out, so keep that in mind when dining here. I’ve encountered about five of the women who work here and all of them were friendly. No attitudes detected at all. What you will get a sense of is people who are working hard and putting their heart and soul into creating some really good food without cutting any corners at all. The collard greens are definitely my favorite. These are pretty much the best greens I’ve ever had outside of my own. Nothing they make at SuggarPlums is how you’d expect it to be. The fried chicken doesn’t just have a crispy flavorful crust to it, it’s also seasoned perfectly all the way down to the bone. I’ve never had mac and cheese before that was that rich, stringy and gooey. Heavy, but delicious. The fried catfish is fresh, clean tasting, light, flaky, well seasoned, crisp, not greasy, amazing. The candied yams are also pretty good, but again, different. They’re topped with a crispy crunch similar to the sugar coating on a crème brûlée. There’s a dusting of fresh allspice or nutmeg that brings out the warm bright flavors of the fresh(not canned) yams. And this is the whole reason why we dine out anyway. What’s the sense of going out to eat just to have the same thing you could cook at home? Trust me, SuggarPlums cooking doesn’t taste anything like your own cooking or anyone else’s that you know. The potato salad is good too. But their peach cobbler, they could stay in business just by selling this and nothing else. Sweet and buttery goodness. As you can tell, I’m a big fan of the food at sugar plums. I’m wishing these ladies all the success in the world because they put their heart and soul into their cooking. My only suggestion is perhaps getting an additional phone line and hiring another person to answer it.

After a few great visits to this establishment I finally decided to write a review! I went last night with the girls and dined in. We were greeted quickly and welcomed to dine in. We(the four of us) all ordered different entrees from fish to chicken to short beef ribs. Everything was delicious and fresh! I no longer need to drive to Harlem for some soul food. My friend even woke up this morning talking about how good her food was and she might have to take out today from here!

SuggarPlums is the best soul food I have tasted in a long time. I am from down south, and have been to mannas in Harlem and sweetie pies in St Louis and none of them can come close to SuggarPlums. The food was simply delicious. I came in with a party of about 19 Christian women. We were given the dinning room to have a birthday party. We had praise and worship, wonderful fellowship with each other. The staff and the owner was wonderful and very accommodating to our every need. We all had separate overflowing dishes and no one had a complaint«finger licking good for real» This is my home away from home from now own. Love you Ms Williams and the entire staff. We are praying for you«and we got your back»

I would like to give a big shout out to Ms. Williams and her staff. Earlier today a birthday celebration was held for two of my dearest friends. We had such a pleasant experience. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was very home like. Thanks again and may the joy of The Lord continue to shine upon the Suggar Plum family.

I’m with Aurora, the top-most reviewer. This is truly some of the best soul food I’ve ever had in a restaurant(and I’ve eaten soul food all over). And the people(staff and customers both) are very, very nice. Prices aren’t bedrock cheap, as you’d expect for mostly-takeout in a barebones environment, but they deserve every penny. But I stood there for 30 minutes, watching them fill exactly three individual takeout meal containers. I’m not exaggerating… they average 10 minutes per… which means they get backed up when there’s more than one customer in the place. I’m NOT an uptight yuppie; I’m very chill, and I don’t expect efficiency at hole-in-wall joints. I was fine, grooving to the music(great lesser-known Motown) and feeling good. But by the time my food finally was ready, I was an ulcered wreck, with blood-shot eyes and an array of nervous ticks. A couple of church ladies in line ahead of me, who looked like they’d been waiting there all day, appeared to be praying to Jesus under their breath. It’s not that there was a huge problem… clearly just business as usual. It’s like watching Ed Norton parcel collard greens into styrofoam. It was the service equivalent of waterboarding. G Gordan Liddy would have cracked. They’d closed the dining room(it was take-out only) but we ate at a small counter near the window. At one point I needed more than the single napkin they’d given me. I waited at the front counter to ask for a couple more for several minutes. Never did get them. No one even looked up. They were all very very very focused… on… the… process… of… filling… the… damn… takeout… containers. Maintain your mental health by ordering ahead. Or stopping by and placing your order and then go shopping and come back. Or bring a book. And, for the love of baby Jesus, don’t try to eat there at peak meal times. But the food? Killer.

In short, this is simply fabulous soul food. They know what they’re doing at Suggarplums, and they do it right. Food is perfectly spiced and seasoned, and definitely not salty. I fell in love with the steamed cabbage, greens, potato salad, catfish, whiting, and most of all, delicately vanilla-scented peach cobbler! That was Slap-yo-mama good. Table Service was not the best — We had to ask for menus, and prompt a waitress to take our orders –but they can work on that. I think they just need a little bit more business savvy in that area. When you have your food down pat, you can work on everything else. I will be back, again and again.

The best soul food I’ve ever tasted. Period! The fried chicken was orgasmic… the mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese were out of this world. Sweet tea was so yummy also! The waitress was a sweetheart. Very pleasant and welcoming. The location is small so I am sure reservations are needed for the weekends. Will definitely be returning here. I am officially hooked.

I went to SuggarPlums on a Tuesday night around 7:30pm. There were no tables left, but we didn’t have to wait too long. The service was good. The food is amazing. I had a Groupon and had no problems. The woman who took care of us was great. It seems like the staff works really hard and maybe some days are better than others. I would recommend giving SuggarPlums a chance. We had the fried catfish with mac n cheese and collard greens. Really delicious! And I can be picky about collard greens. I’ll definitely go back! I’m glad they’re close by so I can go for takeout anytime.

My family and I decided to use a voucher that I purchased for Suggarplums before it expired. No where on the voucher did it say that reservations had to be made nor did it say a time when the last table could sit. We arrived around 8:30 pm and walked in, while a group of women behind the counter tended to two patrons. No one acknlowledged us and they acted as though they were upset that we even walked in. Finally, someone approached and I asked if we could sit and we were told no. I told them I had a Groupon that expires Monday and whether or not I could get take out and was told yes until they learned it was for four people. I’m assuming the disgruntled woman who was answering the questions I directed towards the actual person who approached us, is the owner and she proceeded to question why we waited so long to use our voucher and that it had been four months. I am unsure why that would be any of her business; she needs not be informed of what happens in my life to prevent me from using a voucher and the vouchers are meant to be used during a range. I am unsure as to why the expiration date is on a day that they aren’t even open. Today(07÷30÷15) should have been the expiration date for the Monday(again, I was told they’re not even open Mondays and it is not stated on the voucher printout) through Thursday voucher option. They were rude and by the looks of their Unilocal reviews, they have given a lot of grief to customers that visit with vouchers in tow. Even if I had an extra week, I would not return. This is basically the copy and pasted email I have already sent Groupon so as to receive a refund. As in the wise words of Miss Kimberly«Sweet Brown» Wilkins, «Ain’t nobody got time for that!» Thank you and goodbye Time to add a bit more since this lady is replying to my review AND messaging me… harassment, much? I think her response to the review I just posted was faster than the acknowledgement of my son and I while we waited for my husband to park the car. I may have stepped in a few minutes after 8:30 and she’s correct that 8:45 was when they acknowledged us. We walked in and stood. We displayed no attitude, despite the fact that these robust women seemed to stare us up and down; a fact that even my teenage son commented on. I am not the proprietor of their establishment and it is not my duty to greet the staff and make THEM feel welcome. Someone needs a lesson in hospitality.

Two words: Short. Ribs. Great food, perfect portions. Everything made with care and presented nicely. Would like if this place was BYOB or if they served wine/beer. Either way, yum.

The food here is AMAZING!!! Since the first time my family and I visited this restaurant, we knew we would become regulars. We all got different entrees to share and enjoyed everything set in front of us. From the smothered pork chops to the fried chicken to the salmon, everything was expertly prepared. The chef came to our table which was not expected but really appreciated. Their desserts are really good as well. They also offer homemade sweet tea and lemonade. The portions are healthy always allowing for seconds. The prices are very reasonable. Around our 2nd visit the owner recognized us and greeted us warmly. I feel so good after a visit. I would suggest anyone to go. I hope you all enjoy.

Deeeeelicious! We heard about this place and had to try it. We normally travel from NJ to go to another soul food place in New Rochelle but due to limited seating we wanted to try this one since we heard it was great. It did not disappoint at all. The service was great. The shrimp and chicken wings were seasoned well, crispy and tasty! Mac n cheese was very good and The seasoned rice(looks like red rice) was Delish. Potato salad gets an A+. Lastly, the cornbread tasted like cake it was so good. It’s nice to know that there is another great spot in New Rochelle. We will definitely be coming back over and over again.
