We stumbled upon this place while riding our bikes on Block Island. Oh boy what a treat! Truly delicious donuts! I am not a huge donut fan but these donuts were fresh, warm and extra sugary! If you are visiting Block Island — go have a KILLER donut! Thumbs up from me!

Payne’s Killer Donuts lives up to its slogan that it is ‘worth the wait.’ My husband and I walked a mile to try these and we were not disappointed. We were given fresh and warm homemade donuts rather than the ones that we were expecting to get from the display case. I should add that I don’t like donuts, so I had a bite of my husbands and ended up devouring the whole thing! This is definitely worth it.

I love the warm cinnamon donuts and the sugar ones. Not a lot of choices but I like that. If your expecting 20 different kinds of crappy doughnut prepare to be disappointed. Instead you get two kinds of really excellent donut. I also get the coffee and it’s okay, I am a coffee snob so I don’t really want to get into that. Donut good, eat donut, be happy.

OK, don’t get me wrong, their donuts are good. But I don’t exactly think they deserve their«killer» distinction. Yea, I get it. There aren’t many donut shops on the island. Payne’s only makes three types: plain, sugar and cinnamon. That’s understandable when considering the small size of the shop and the small size of the island. If they offered more flavors they’d probably just go to waste. Here’s one recommendation for you… you will likely need to purchase a drink or beverage to wash them down. That’s not a bad thing… I’m just pointing this out because I tried to get away without purchasing one and I couldn’t do it. By the way, their roadside location makes for a great pit stop while riding a bicycle. They have a nice outdoor deck to sit and relax, and watch the entire world go by.

These donuts are heavenly goodness! Moist and delicious in the inside w a light crunch on the outside. Mornings are the best time to go bc they just came out of the fryer! Yum!

Different from the Krispy Kremes with the frosting, but so delicious in their own right.

Date Time! We sail into the Great Salt Pond knowing that one morning, my husband and I will leave the kids on board(two are adults so it’s safe!) and go out for our morning date. Hot donuts and hot coffee — what more could you want? These are hands down the best donuts ever. I love the cinnamon the best but really, you can’t go wrong with any of them! There are tables and chairs to sit down at and look over the little inlet with fishing boats and the Block Island Aquarium but definitely the highlight are these delicious cake donuts. Don’t miss it! And yes, we bring a batch back for the kids as well. We’re not THAT mean!

These are definitely killer donuts, as the sign says. We happened upon Payne’s while biking by, but would have totally missed it if we were in the car. Very nondescript service window/storefront. If you are headed to Block Island, you must stop here. The donuts are a heavenly piece of butter, sugar, and fried doughy goodness. At $ 1 each, you can’t go wrong. And don’t forget to order some milk to have with your treats!

The sign said killer donuts, so of course I had to pull over my bicycle and try for myself. When I saw the donuts in the display case, I nearly changed my mind. They looked so simple and ordinary, like what you might find in an entemann’s box. But the taste was exceptional. I can’t say I’m a donut aficionado… but I can say that this is the best donut I’ve ever tasted. Great recipe!

I’m not exaggerating when I say these are the best donuts I’ve ever had! My waistline is glad that I didn’t discover these until the last day of my trip!

These are the ABSOLUTEBEST donuts EVER!!! Every time we visit BI we get Payne’s Donuts at least twice! I send my husband in on the dinghy and can’t wait for the deliciousness of these donuts. Note: They don’t keep very well, so if you buy a lot in hopes of storing them for another day, they do not taste nearly as good the next morning!

I hadn’t eaten a donut in nineteen years, and Payne’s was worth waiting for. The cinnamon donut was moist and delicious. Plus, a real bargain at eighty cents!

Totally agree with the previous Unilocaler. This donut shop is not to be missed. It is kind of like those hostess cake donuts but way better. The dough is so light with perfect balance of sweetness. I regret trying them on the day before my departure; had I tried them on my first day of my stay, I would have eaten one every day. I really miss BI, and I miss those donuts just as much.

Quite simply the best donuts I’ve ever had. I know, a statement like that seems too exuberant to be believed, but… dang, it’s true. I’d buy a round-trip ferry ticket to Block Island just to enjoy some of these donuts again. Payne’s is a small kitchen with a walk-up window, and a patio outside where happy donut-eaters can enjoy the crisp morning island air as they fulfill(or exceed) their carb quota for the day. We arrived before they opened, soon after sunrise, and were not the first in line. By the time Payne’s was ready to serve, there were many other folks waiting patiently behind us, and with good reason. We were served a bag of sugar-coated cake-style donuts, still quite hot from the fryer. Don’t expect an array of toppings here. Payne’s is not Dunkin’ or Krispy Kreme, no sir. You get plain or sugar. Anything more would just be a distraction. The donuts are small and light, making it too easy to wolf down a dozen without thinking too much about it.

The donuts and lemonade were great! I had to try the plain donut, because thats where i base my opinion on the dough’s taste. It was so good! Then i moved on to the sugared and cinnamon flavored donuts and they were equally as good! The donuts were made hot, fresh and delicious and the lemonade was made nice, cold and tasty. Also, there is free Wifi courtesy of the hotel that owns this donut shop!
