What do you do when you are in downtown New Ulm over the holidays? You wander into an antique store if you are me! This store is very close to the mall if antiques are not your thing or if you want more shopping afterwards. The store is filled with a wide variety of both old(antique and vintage) and some new merchandise. One of the ladies working there helpfully told me which jewelery cases were vintage and which were new. Last Christmas I bought a silk men’s tie for $ 4. I did manage to restrain myself from buying a bunch of items this year, but for those from a larger town or metro small town antique shops like this are a good deal.

I’m originally from New Ulm and I go to school near Chicago, and every time I go home for a break I come back with an awesome vintage piece of clothing or an accessory that I found super cheap at one of my favorite thrift stores in my town. Antiques Plus is a great spot to hit when you’re going through town. It’s located right on Broadway(the main street in the town) and the lady there is so friendly and willing to help you find what you need. I’ve found so many great things there, from a woven purse for $ 12 to an Italian-handmade sequin skirt for $ 10 to a Christian Dior suit(blazer and skirt!) for $ 15. Amazing. They’ve also got some cool pieces that are specific to New Ulm — when my friends visited they picked up an opener bottle opener from Schell’s brewery for $ 5. They’ve also got some great pictures and other items. I’ve seen loads of old vinyl records, milk bottles, and so much jewelry!
