Blick Art Materials

Employees were perky and friendly and helpful and playful as they threw stuff at each other. But they did not have the oil-​based paint markers I was looking for. So sad.

I was told they would only honor the sale price online ($ 21 to $ 14) after adding the cost of shipping and handling. That is NOT price matching, and this is their own online store.

today i bought some art supplies, but store (it is Blick Art now) doesn’t have proper plastic bags to carry art supplies, they gave me GARBAGE bag instead. ART and GARBAGE are the same for BLICK!
bag did not have any handles and was thin and fell apart in a few minutes on my way back so i had to collect my art supplies from dirty street of Manhattan

The employees are rude and lack knowledge, everyone will tell you something different, which is extremely frustrating. They also don’t like to look at you at all.

Long lines and expensive items buts it’s great if I’m in a hurry cause they stock almost everything I’d ever need! I recommend a membership card and to take advantage of their deals. As I stated the lines are really long! But if you’re late on some work it’s a reliable place cause so far they’ve had everything I’ve needed.

Went here today. Great stock of supply and happy staff. But the music was pretty loud, coupled with staff walky talkys constantly BLARING so they can hear each other over the music. Super distracting noise level over all, and then what felt like the CIA watching over everyone in full on suits, also on walky talkys. Overall i ended up there extra long trying to focus on what i needed and was eager to get out rather then browse around comfortably like I do other art stores.

Such a fantastic place for all artists and laypeople alike. I could get lost in this place, with all of its awesome supplies, books, and artwork. Also, the staff is super informed (they’re all incredible artists themselves) and so friendly. This is the place I go if I ever need ANYTHING related to art.

Horrible customer service. I bought this plastic sheet 10 mins ago and the teacher said its the wrong one so i went back with my receipt and they said they cant change it because it is final sale. Which is a huge lie. There is no sale on it. And very bad attitude. Art students dont need an art store like this.

Great spot for arts and craft supplies.
Large shop filled with everything an artist or art student needs. Also a good spot to pick up some things for a craft or business project. Still, it leans heavily on the artist side. Decent prices too.
I used to be an art major many years ago, and now I can’t even draw a stick figure. It’s been a long time since I was in a store such as this. Staff was very helpful with my questions and directed me to what I needed. All types of foamboard sizes and colored paper which is just what I needed.

This location is super busy, on a Wednesday, from 11– 1:30 in the afternoon. It’s a weekday and I’m surprised by how hectic it is. My experience shopping here felt like the first day of school, shopping for school supplies at Staples. If you’re not a art genius like I am, I suggest you come here as soon as the store opens so you can get the one on one help you need. I am not an art major, but I am taking a professional art class and I no idea what the art terms listed by my professor were. Also, you should come here early because those kids at The New School are right next door, and they’ll grab the materials YOU need before you can even step foot out of your house! I was missing 6 items on my list, that were out of stock at 11 in the morning! Although I DID receive some help from the store associates, I felt like it was super stressful to pin them down and ask them for help when they’re busy handling packages. I had to run around the store and look for random employees to help me. Such. A. Workout… I’m really glad that my friend came with me, she was helpful and tall (by the way, you need to be tall to reach some of the heavy body paints). So, if you’re a shorty like I am, harass a tall friend to tag along with you. It’ll really help — trust me!
Even though Blick and Utrecht are affiliated with each other, you can only return items belonging solely to the Blick location (237 W.) or the Utrecht location (E13 st). Damn, it sucks! Also, there’s no more student discount (10%). It doesn’t exist anymore. It died. Instead, you have this preferred card thing which you sign up for free at the register and they try to match the item your buying with the online price of your item. If your item is cheaper online, they’ll refer to that price, vice versa.
The materials here don’t come cheap. After spending much money here, I am now a starving artist… –sad face– –cries–

It’s not too bad. You get pretty decent deals on art supplies if you have the free member card. The only thing that aggravated me is that only one person of the 5 I asked knew what the hell a «painting by numbers» kit is. How do you work in an art store and not know what that is? I finally found one on my own at the gifts table underneath everything. Know your stock employees! Come on!

Meh. Maybe I should have read «Art Supplies» a little better because I was looking for items for crafting, not canvases and watercolors. I was looking for rope or yarn and clothespins to hang up photographs, and found neither. However, if you’re looking for art supplies like paints, pens, pencils, paintbrushes, paper, notebooks, canvases, etc., this is just the right place to pop by.

I do not like to use Utrecht because half the time I order with Utrect, it says my order goes through on their site only to find out (even after a confirmation email) that infact it has not. Customer Service would dictate that a call would be in order if they wanted to KEEP this sale. But no, this is not the norm with this company. I would DEFINITELY use another company if I could find the item I am using elsewhere, even for a higher price, but no one else carries it. I even asked another art store in the area to get it for me and they said they were unable. And with me having to reorder the item for a second time today as the last time I ordered the item did not go through, I ended up having to pay more because the coupon that actually DID get me a pretty good deal on what I needed, was up. Sad day indeed for Utrecht.

Very helpful staff people in this store. They were out of an item that was on sale, but the staff went out of their way to find it at another location. Nice neat well-​organized store.

The sales help here was as good as it can possibly be especially for a difficult sale item; a large and expensive flat file. Lily, Essie and John were amazing in their responsiveness to my endless questions about dimensions, materials and appropriate discounts. They guided me and made multiple trips to the actual flat files in the store to check measurements. They were a pleasure to deal with and I look forward to sending my Parsons students to see them. I know they will offer clarity in the sea of art material offerings. Students will surely come to class with the right materials, such as the right printing paper, which can be a challenge when purchasing materials for an unfamiliar process they are about to embark on learning. It is a rare gift to have sales people in an art store that are knowledgeable, energetic and who sincerely care.

Utrecht has everything you would need for any art project (well, except for small, skinny glue sticks the last time I went — they were all out). The person that helped me was so extremely nice — helped me pick out the perfect paint for my wood art project. I’m a fan of the Golden paints now.
The people who work there always go above and beyond to try to help me get a discount (even when I’m no longer a student). I guess they want the customers coming back for more (or else the prices are really that much more overpriced).
The only reason I didn’t come in one time was because the lines were SOOOO LONG. This was last week. At different times the lines can be long or there might be no one in there. So weird.

This Utrecht is very new and carries everything one would need to make some interesting and successful works of Art. Thought they don’t have quite as many kids/​craft supplies as Blick on Bond Street or a Michael’s Craft Store (do those even exist in NYC anymore!?!) they do have a small section of kids/​craft supplies (no googly eyes though :().
They have a wide variety of canvas and linens (on panel, stretched and unstretched). They also had an excellent selection of Golden and Utrecht brand paints (my personal favorites) in addition to a wide-​variety of other brands. The Williamsburg paints and spray paints are locked up, but it wasn’t difficult to find a helpful sales person to unlock them for me. It’s location near Parsons and the Union Square subway stops (and Brooklyn!) make it probably the most conveniently located art store in the city. I wish them success, and highly recommend checking out this art store.

Organized and affordable. I can’t say that about many art supply stores. It’s still more expensive than some web sites but it is more affordable than Pearl.
