Hertz Rent A Car

Garbage. Terrible customer service. Terrible policy changes. There are plenty of other car services — use another.

Their service was great and quick (wasnt a hertz gold member) when picking up the car. my only gripe was returning the vehicle, there wasnt anyone in the return zone to offer me my receipt i had to go and hunt the person down so she can give me my return receipt and she was quite rude to me telling me i wasnt in the correct return zone not proper etiquette unprofessional.

The car was presentable when picked up at 9pm on a Monday night. The ipass tape kept falling off the window. When we returned the car there were no clear signs of return and it was after a storm, where the ground was wet, but it was only drizzling. They made you walk at least 40 feet to sign the car out where staff were standing under an underpass refusing to assist with the check off and never gave directions on what was needed. They did have the nerve to ask my mileage after we walked 40 feet with all of our bags, and no assistance in the rain, to bring them the info under the cover. Talk about customer service? Did not appear to be any?

I’m a Gold member and my name wasn’t at the board, which made me walk to the counter. Luckily, the lady checked the rate I was paying in the contract, and it was $ 530 for a MINIVAN! I showed her the email showing I had booked for $ 104, and it took them over 30min to fix the «system glitch». If I had picked up the car and left, I would have had to battle with Hertz later on…

I am blown away by the service we received ! We worked with Mike who was so professional and more accommodating than I could have ever imagined. We used the gold service and Mike insisted on upgrading us to a larger car since there were 5 of us and a dog. He also handled all of the paperwork seamlessly and without error. What should have been a longer process took less than 15 mins and we were in and out. Thank you from all of us!

I’ve been renting here for several years, and have always had good experiences. The cars are great, the location is convenient to both the airport and the M60 bus, staff are helpful without being obnoxious, and since I became a Gold member I’ve never had to wait. I only wish for a better EZPass option. PlatePass fees are ridiculous (on top of charging you the cash toll) so I never use it.

The Mini Van I rented worked great for our needs.

Bernadette was so accommodating. I was a very frustrated ex-​Avis customer and couldn’t have come to a better place. The car was excellent and the entire experience was extraordinarily pleasant. I will now exclusively use Hertz.

This is far by one of the worst car rental locations I’ve been to in the entire world. The people behind the counter are completely stupid and unbelievably slow and incompetent. I was charged incorrectly totally different from what the quote said and they said it would be corrected upon return and it wasn’t. Rent from anywhere else but here. It takes forever to get from behind the counter and into a car.

This place is the worst!
Next time I visit NYC, I will Über.
The first car I got was 45K miles and just nasty inside.
The second car didn’t have a full tank, was nasty in and out. Once I go on the highway the noises this thing made were horrible. If I had to drive it more than 70 miles, I am sure it would have left me strained.

Got there around 8am on a Saturday morning and the place was dead. Staff was very friendly, didn’t try to upcharge or convince me to get any additional upgrades, and let me choose from 5 different cars!
Only issue I experienced on the trip was that PlatePass went off, which was remedied by speaking to Hertz headquarters. Car was clean and in perfect condition. No complaints.
Not sure how to take in all the bad reviews, but my experience was great. Would happily rent from them again.

Such poor experiences at this location from huge lines (up to 1h30 wait time to get the car even with a reservation) to rude staff. It’s such a shame.

Another horrible Hertz experience but this is the one that has made me say, «never again».
Rented a car on Monday with an EZ pass but got to the first bridge toll and my EZ pass was invalid and the Port Authority officer took it from me; only after I held up traffic for 10 minutes. I had no cash on me so I also got a ticket to pay my toll at a later date.
The rest of my trip had me stopping and having to pay cash at all tolls.
Upon returning the car there was only one person checking in 20+ cars however 4 – 5 people standing around talking. I opted to leave my car with the key in it and wait for the shuttle so as not to be late for my flight. After waiting for the shuttle for some time, an employee (very nice) offered to give myself and another customer (who also opted to leave his car and not wait for the attendant to check him in) a ride to the airport. When we got in the car he asked me for the key to my car. I told him I left it in the car and he went to look. When he came back he told me it wasn’t there. I also looked and indeed it wasn’t. I checked all of my pockets and handbag but it wasn’t there and I am positive I left it in the ignition (it was a single key).
I don’t know what happened between the time I walked away from the car and getting into the suburban to ride to the airport (15 – 20 minutes) but I am certain that I don’t have the key and based on the level of organization I have seen at this location I have no idea where it could be.
I rent cars on a weekly basis all over the US and only opt for Hertz as a last resort as these issues don’t seem to arise on Enterprise, National, or Alamo. But this kind of time wasted is the reason I will not rent from Hertz again, no matter what the situation.

Dear Hertz LGA,
You have kind of a mess on your hands at this location. The last 2 times I’ve arrived with a Gold reservation, my name has not been on the board and you didn’t have a car ready for me (or any of the other 10 Gold members who were also in line with me at the Gold desk). You also seem to have 1 bus that you send out about once every 30 minutes since my waits at the curb have taken about that long each time I’ve waited for it to pick me up. Finally, would it kill you to put up better signage to help people to find your rental return location? I’ve done this a few times now, and I pretty much get lost every single time. I’d give you 1 star except for the fact that everyone’s usually so nice, despite all the issues.

My fiancée and I rented a car here to drive to a wedding in New Jersey. We made reservations a week in advance to pick up the car at 12PM. We arrive at Hertz around 11:45 and we get checked in. The lady (team lead) at the front desk said that we would have to wait an hour before our car was ready.
At this point, we were upset because we had to get to the wedding in 2 hours and the church was 1.5 hours away. We told the team lead lady that we were in a rush and that our reservations should’ve been ready at the time we reserved them. She just ignored us. She told us that she «understood» our situation, but there were plenty of people in front of us. I thought that this was unprofessional because we were technically paying for time that was spent waiting for a car.
We eventually got our car (an hour later!) and we were 30 minutes late to the wedding. On top of that, returning the car was also a hassle because they were severely understaffed at night.
The service here is terrible. I don’t recommend renting from this Hertz. Avoid this place like the plague.

The ladies here were all very pleasant to deal with. However, it was a nightmare *finding* this location. The address listed (here and elsewhere) is for shuttle pickup to the location, not the location itself. I uploaded a photo of the location from my phone to help other folks. Easy to get there via the M60, if you know where it is.

Booked a car a week in advance, still had to wait for an hour. Plus the car was not really in a good shape!

Between the pre-​check in Gold Status and adding a spouse to the list of approved drivers, Hertz has become my go-​to car rental company.
Add in their easy to use phone app, and the super easy check-​out process, and I don’t know why people use anything besides Hertz. The other companies could learn a lot about how they run things.
I’ve used Hertz I think 6 times in the last year, and I wish I had switched long ago. Each trip is easier than the last.

Super unprofessionell.
Unsere Erfahrung mit Hertz (la guardia airport) war leider nicht die beste.
Zuerst haben wir 45 Minuten lang gewartet, weil nur eine Person hinterm Schalter war. Nicht mal als die Warteschlange länger wurde hat Hertz was dagegen unternommen.
Das Auto an sich war ok, außer dass der USB Anschluss nicht funktioniert hat.
Ein nächstes Mal wirds warscheinlich nicht geben.

HORRIBLE SERVICE!
Our fight had been delayed so we called the specific location to let them know. They NEVER picked up the phones and even we left messages, never returned our phone calls.
Once we landed at LGA airport. We called them again and double checked where to wait for the shuttle. No one answered the phone? We waited at least 30 minutes then we saw Hertz shuttle. The shuttle stopped at different terminals to pick up more passengers. Since they didn’t have many shuttle passed by, lots of people were waiting at different terminals.
Once we got to the Hertz office, 4 staffs standing behind the counter chatting with each other. No customers at all since no shuttle picking up any passenger. Now we had full bus of passenger, LONG LINE to check in!!!
Check-​in process was very slow. After check-​in, they gave us parking spot # and we had to go and search for our car in the parking lot. No staff working in the parking lot, no street lamp. So hard to see the parking spot number on the ground. Awful experience…
