2 Bros Pizza

The jerk chicken is shockingly good for a place that sells dollar-​slices. The pizza’s not very good (even for the price), but it’s exceedingly hard to find anything called Jerk Chicken which even remotely resembles proper jerk seasoning in Manhattan.

The pizza here is alright and the service is quick. However, the other day they ran out of pizza and they told me that the wait time for a new batch was 10 min. Good thing there’s also another dollar pizza store next door because I did not have the time to wait. Other than that, $ 1 pizza, can’t complain!

Hubs and I were looking for a quick bite when we were walking around the city, and we found it. We got 3 slices and 2 drinks for under $ 5. You can’t even eat at McDonalds quicker and cheaper. The slices weren’t amazing but they were pretty good and better than most pizza we can find back home in VA. I’m no pie expert, but I’d eat here again.

2 Bros is the first place that I encountered $ 1 pizza slices in the village about 3 years ago. Since then it seems they have forced other business to do likewise, but this is one of the few 2 Bros locations that also sells food.
When it comes to their pizza, there’s nothing special about it. You’ve tasted better elsewhere. It’s not terrible. It’s just average. 2 Bros has grown so rapidly, though, because they make cheap decent pizza. Long lines can be expected at almost all of their locations because it’s a good value – $ 1 for a plain pizza, $ 1.50 for 1 topping, $ 8 for a pie.
The food is handled by a nice Dominican lady who’s usually at this location. It’s buffet style and you tell them what you want – macaroni, rice and beans, rice with veggies, potatoes, string beans, salad, ribs, fish, and, of course, chicken prepared 3 or 4 different ways. You can get a decent meal for as little as $ 3! It’s pretty insane, and you’ll normally see 2 long lines around lunchtime for pizza and food.

Fine deal.

Coming from Chicago, all I wanted was one awesome slice of NY pizza… for $ 1 I guess it can’t be beat, but I’ve definitely had the same exact pizza in chi-​town. Was I expecting the best piece ever? No… but totally thought it would’ve tasted different.
Lesson learned

You get what you pay for.

The first time I tried 2 Brothers Pizza was in August 2012. It was good. It was at this same spot. The pizza was cheesy. The sauce was good. It’s a decent deal especially in Midtown Manhattan. Today, I stopped in to eat the pizza. The music in there was very loud. The table were not cleaned and were very dirty. There is no AC. What disgusted me was that the man preparing the pizza had no gloves on. I did not realize this until after I finished basically my slice. That’s just nasty and the shop can be fined for that. The man prepared a pizza with pepperoni, sausage, and pineapples. He dug his hands into the containers and put it on the pizza. What the heck? Eww. Another thing that annoyed me was the pizza pie that the brought out of the oven was very burnt, yet they sold it. The thing about these pizza shops selling cheap pizza is that it’s a hit or miss… meaning that you’ll get a good slice, an undercooked slice, or an overcooked slice. This was my second time frequenting this place. Now, I like the pizza but I want the person preparing it to use gloves.

once again, for $ 1 for a slice that doesn’t taste like paper, you cannot go wrong. decently sized, and for $ 1, great flavor. No, its not the best slice you’ll get in NY, but its well worth $ 1. They have other food there like rice and veggies, but i’ve yet to try. Will never not get a 2 bros slice.

Not bad for $ 1.00 pizza. You have 4 people behind the counter and the cashier is giving you slices AND taking cash = DISGUSTING!!! I asked 1 of the guys to give me my pizza. The place is dirty and with all those people not!1came out to clean the tables! Won’t be coming back to this dump.

2 Bros is a gem in Manhattan. Where else can you find decent pizza for a buck? Lots of seating, line moves super fast during lunchtime so don’t turn away when you see it, $ 2.75 for 2 slices and a soda or water, and they sometimes play loud Spanish music!

Pocket friendly prices, really quick service and everything is fresh!
Do not let the long line at lunch time deceive you. The staff is really quick at turning orders around that even if the line is out the door, you’ll still be in and out 5mins tops!
The taste of the pizza isn’t always consistent though. There are times when you get what you pay for while there are days when the pizza is really good! You’d actually think the pizza is crappy for the prices, but it’s actually good for what you pay for. :)

A dollar slice is a dollar slice any way you cut it. Portions are standard NY-​style pizza size, and it is your standard NY-​style dollar slice pizza. Cheap cheese, greasy pizza and a jaw-​dropping price. 1 $ for a slice or 2.75 for 2 slices + a canned soda or water. I usually just get one slice, as it is more than enough food for me and I always have to pat it down with napkins to get rid of some of the grease.
A dollar will carry you far here… Just make sure not to overdue it or a dollar will carry you to your cardiologist’s.
It’s a bit difficult to find a 1 $-ANYTHING in midtown around Herald Square, but this place rides in like a knight in shining armor when you have some loose change chingling around in your pocket and looking to stuff your arteries with an «oh my god what have I done?!» kind of food.

Due to some extreme $ 1 pizza rivalry with their next-​door neighbor, 2 Bros was selling their slices for $ 0.75, and a whole pie for $ 6.00. That stopped now though, fortunately, because I would suck down half a pie myself each meal.
Highlights:
— When you’re in the mood for cheap pizza, this will satisfy
— Not much décor to enjoy, and that’s just fine
— Solid, hot pizza slices
— If you want quality, this is not your joint. but cheap quantity this place serves in BULK.
Overall: As far as $ 1 pizza goes, 2 Bros still is king in my book. 3.5÷5

The pizza here always has to go back into the oven to be fully cooked whenever I come here, but its worth the wait. For the price and taste, its worth more than five stars.
Now onto the chicken. At first I was a bit skeptical that the chicken and rice for $ 2 I started seeing them selling in the front was quality, but after the massive portion of jerk chicken, broccoli, collard greens, and yellow rice I got for $ 3.50, I was a new believer.
The veggies were fresh, tasty and healthy. I avoided eating the large portion of rice, but even that was tasty as well. And for the main character in the story, the chicken. it was a whole quarter, a nice size, and it was mostly juicy, and had a nicely barbecued skin and outer edge. You can make two meals out of the portions they serve up here for the combo.
For your money, 2 Bros is a great option twice a work week for their pizza and chicken.

You two bros hands down have beat down the pizza king next door.
I actually like the cheap chicken and rice you can get for $ 2. It’s a jerk chicken leg quarter with a side of rice. The other sides aren’t too shabby either. Collard greens, green beans, rice, yams.
My go to place when I want a healthy meal for under $ 5 (if you get the non-​pizza items).
There’s a separate line for pizza, so make sure you’re in the right line!

Pizza here is passable if you’re hungry. I find it to be hit or miss as the employees try to rush out pizza in record time and cooking suffers. You’ll either get a pizza under cooked or over cooked (literally burnt). Rarely will you get a perfectly cooked slice and because of the dirt cheap price they put as little cheese as possible to get the slices to even pass as a pizza.
If you’re looking for just a cheap place to eat to get you by then this place is perfect but if you’re looking for a really good lunch (meal) then I’d opt for a better location.

I used to work around the corner from here. Ages ago, a friend of mine mentioned offhandedly that he was «usually hungover» on weekdays. «My job’s terrible, so being hungover gives me something to take my mind off of it until lunch,» he said. Once I started working at this particular spot around the corner from this particular 2 Bros, I thought, «Huh. That guy was really onto something.»
So, «dollar pizza» became a bit of a ritual for me a few days per week. (This was before it became 75 cents a slice. Holy balls.) I’d show up hungover, muddle along for a couple hours, and come lunchtime… well, street food almost always hits the spot in situations like this. So, dollar pizza it was. In retrospect, this was probably not the best career move. What’s that line in the Old Testament? «As a dog returns to its vomit, something something dollar pizza?» I can’t remember.*
Anyway, there were times when dollar pizza worked out really well: Properly heated, crust was crispy, no complaints. One caveat: 2 Bros is deeply inconsistent. I’ve had slices that were undercooked, extremely skimpy on cheese, cold… It’s dollar (or 75-​cent, now) pizza. You take your chances. But don’t expect it to be great, or even good. 2 Bros is a vessel for starch and dairy. That’s all. It’s not good. It’s serviceable. It hits the spot for a certain junk food craving, except when it’s just bad. My officemates and I (one of whom held 2 Bros in a kind of religious regard) all agreed the after-​affects were a bit weird. You’d get a little woozy in the head-​zone. Very strange — yet unanimously experienced. Although, y’know, I think the white pies might’ve actually been kind of good, like if pizza could be quantified.
Hey, I once saw a guy have a seizure here! I’m not kidding. That’s no big thing in and of itself. What bothered me was twofold. For starters, it was a busy lunch hour, and 2 Bros is jammin’ during lunch hour. So this guy starts having a seizure and falls on the floor. Of course everyone stopped and stared — including the counter staff, whom I really think should’ve called 911 immediately. Finally, I held up my cell phone and shouted, «HAS ANYONE HERE CALLED AN AMBULANCE?» And nobody had, so I did. I didn’t mind calling an ambulance. These are just the things we do for each other as human beings. But, seriously… someone has a medical emergency inside your own business — get on the phone. This actually made me really angry. I don’t think I ever went back.
The second thing that bothered me: The guy who had a seizure threw up on the floor a little (it happens; no surprise there). And the whole time I was there (another 15 minutes or so, until the ambulance showed up), even after the unfortunate fella had come to and had moved from the middle of the floor, no one came over with a mop to clean up. Come on. Look, I used to work in food service. I’m a guitarist, man. You bet half of my friends have worked in food service, too. It sucks. I know. Customers suck, the running around sucks, the pay sucks. But there are some basic standards you’d better uphold, even if you’re a dollar pizza counter.
*In retrospect, I’d like to clarify the «As a dog returns to its vomit» line is, at the point it appears in this review, is a figurative statement. It has to do with returning instinctively or compulsively to a bad habit. I’m not actually linking that in any way to the puke that happens later in this review. Amen.

I came here after hearing that 2 Bros. Pizza was selling slices for $ 0.75 to compete with neighboring Pizza King. Even their special was sliced from $ 2.75 to $ 2.25 for 2 slices and a can of soda. The line was to the entrance at Pizza King, but I wasn’t in the mood to venture to new grounds. I wanted something familiar, like 2 Bros. Pizza. Boy, when I got there around 1:10 PM on a Friday afternoon, the line was wrapped in a U-​shaped with about 20 – 30 people in line. It looked intimidating but surprisingly, the line moves really fast. When you get near the glass counter, stacks of about 6 – 7 uncooked pizzas were waiting to be thrown into the oven. Likewise, there were 4 – 5 cooked pizzas on the counter. I ordered my 3 slices to go in a box and was on my way.
Many people know what to expect when going to 2 Bros. Pizza, as they probably make one of the best $ 1 slices any where in the city. When I finally made my way to eating my pizza, I noticed little differences between this location as compared to the other two that I frequent more (557 8^th Ave and 601 6^th Ave locations). The dough was more doughy, making for a more chewy pizza and it wasn’t as thoroughly seasoned with salt as the others. It still had a flavor to the dough, though in a subtle way. Additionally the outer crust seemed to be a lot larger, averaging about 1.5″ in crust as compared to their usual 1″ crust. The tomato sauce, gooey cheese and seasonings were solid, which made for a very good sub-​$ 1 slice as compared to other non-​2 Bros. pizza joints, though not up to par with their other locations. But for $ 0.75 a slice, it’s quite a bargain. And in order to stay competitive with neighboring Pizza King, who knows how much lower each slice will go.
