Great place to get keys made. It’s a tiny little place with minimal room but I was basically in and out of there with new keys in under 5 minutes.
Also, all the keys worked! I am constantly misplacing keys in different bags or who knows — maybe my cat hides them… So when I go to a hardware store I will have 5 keys made of each. Almost always, only 2 of the 5 work and I need to go back to whatever hardware store once or twice more to get all the keys to work — so when this place made all FIVE copies that worked the first time — big thumbs up!
Also, I just read a review stating they charged a lot to have a key cut — their charge was very inexpensive at only a few dollars per key — however in the past when I have needed another type of key made at other places — there are particular keys that are more expensive. I think it depends what type of key .
I’m keeping this one bookmarked as my goto key spot !

There is a reason why Yorkville property values are stagnant and around a grand a foot. It is vendors like these people. Incompetent and bullies. They charge $ 16 to get a key cut they charge $ 160 per hour for their time and the key doesn’t work they blame the key they simply had to copy. They have no value for your time when I offered the opportunity do the right thing they do not.
You simply cannot trust them I would certainly be hard-​pressed to have them come to my door and know my address.
They make up a cockamamie story about a b an d cut; they didn’t know which one it was nor could they copy the perfectly functioning original key. It gets better they admit the error wasn’t in the B&D cut with that too much was cut at the base of the key.
When given the opportunity to make me whole for my travel time (they don’t) and cut one blank as a B and one blank as a D they refused. Rude, inconsistent and incompetent.
Best part yet, this second key doesn’t work either.

Even better the affable manager sat silent the whole time.

I don’t usually write these reviews but I think it’s important for people to read about others experiences prior to committing to a locksmith. My building recommended I use Abbey locksmith so we went ahead and used them. We picked the most expensive secure locks they offered for our front door. When the technician arrived to install, he did not bring all the materials he needed because they forgot to order the other locks we wanted replaced. This was frustrating given the amount of money we were paying but we understood there was some sort of miscommunication between whoever we spoke to and confirmed our order with (I believe there are multiple owners).
2 weeks after the brand new locks went in, I was shocked when I couldn’t get in the front door. I thought it was my mistake so I called the doorman who tried my key and told me the lock was broken. I called abbey and they sent over a technician within 15 minutes (A plus for response time.) I assumed the problem was fixed.
A few weeks ago (the new locks are less than 2 months old), I came home alone after a long day at work to find that I was again unable to get into the apartment. I called to complain and the response time was very fast. This time the technician said they would replace my locks because there must be something wrong. I was thrilled this situation would finally be remedied. I was wrong. Just two weeks after the new locks were installed, we were unable to get into our apartment again! Pretty frustrating and embarrassing since we had guests over who had to wait with us in the hallway before finally deciding to leave. Not sure what they will do to fix the locks this time but wanted to share my experience.

A disorganized business run by rude people who do a terrible job — really how hard is it to install a lock? Or to fix one? I would give 0 stars if I could. Never use Abbey Locksmith. I don’t usually write reviews, but have to after this — these guys are THE WORST. Do not use them, your average locksmith around the corner is far better.
I had them install a lock in my apartment, it stopped working and I got locked out of my apartment two weeks later. They then installed a second lock (after telling me what a bad job the first guy did). 9 months later on my way to work my front door wouldn’t lock. I called Abbey at 8:30 am and they told me someone would be there between 10 – 12, no one arrived by 1 pm. They also tried to tell me they were going to charge me for the visit and a third lock, even though all of this was their faulty installation and poor job.
The guys answering the phone are tremendously rude, inconsiderate and fairly nasty. When I told them I wasn’t getting paid for the hours I was missing working and I really needed to get there, they told me to «chill lady» and when I called back at 12:45 to ask where the technician was the guy in the background goes «I’m pretty sure he’s on his way, I don’t know!»

Someone tried to break into my apt, so I called Abbey Locksmiths. I live alone and was very nervous. They arrived on time and were terrific! The price was less than I expected and they were very professional. I would use them again and recommend them to my friends and family. What really made me happy was that they left everything neat and clean when they left.

When my 87 y/​o mother decided that someone had entered her apartment, removed pictures of her long deceased and divorced husband (HUH?!) and helped themselves to the last of the meatballs and spaghetti in her fridge and didn’t have the common decency to clean the plate properly (paging Goldilocks?), I contacted Abbey Locksmith and specifically requested a Medeco lock be installed on her apartment’s door as I know them to be one of the best locks on the market. The locksmith advised me that a less expensive lock would suffice after surveying the existing surroundings (doorman bldg w/​CCTV system throughout) .
Now, my «I gotta be me and live alone» mother and I feel safe and content that she’s in a secure location and I’ve a few more bucks to send her on a cruise OR pay for time on a shrink’s couch;).
It was refreshing to deal with a company that doesn’t feel like every dollar was the last they’ll ever make.
Abbey, has a client for life, in me:).

Do not use this company. Dishonest, expensive and rude. Put in cheap, insecure locks putting my family and home at risk. Avoid at all costs!

In a word Pompous, Inept, and Expensive (ok, three words). They installed two locks incorrectly and have returned twice to fix, each time charging me. Now my Nanny and young children are locked out of the apartment. I called up Abbey and first thing out of their mouth was user error. I had a few choice words for them and decided to find a more customer focused company. Stick with the smaller guys, Abbey is too big for their britches.
