Sylvia Vella has been doing my hair for at least eight years. She brings to her work the eye of an accomplished artist and the careful listening skills of a good friend. Sylvia never begins a cut without assessing how my previous cut has held up, questioning me about how or whether I’d like to have it changed this time, and then offering her suggestions — which are always dead right — on the best possible cut. After she blows out the new cut, she meticulously fine tunes the layers — but the result is a look that is completely natural and distinctly mine. When I leave, I always feel terrific and very often other clients, having their hair done by other stylists, tell me that they love how my hair looks. And I’ve never had to wait when I arrive for my appointment with her for even five minutes. She’s terrific.

I have been a client of Yvette Gonzalez for years. After all this time, I must say she is the best of the best. She gives all her clients individual and personalized service — there is no cookie cutter haircut here. She really listens to your needs and asks the right questions to get to what you want. She gives her opinions based on her expertise and she’s always spot on. Her attention to detail is amazing. I have sent at least 20 people to her through the years and they all still love Yvette. She treats her clients like family and always makes herself available for them.

Ludovich has been coloring my hair for over 12 years. He’s an artist and a genius. I completely trust him. I have light blonde hair. He’s achieved natural tones/​highlights and low lights. Before him, my hair would always get too light from other colorists or in bad condition. Under his care, my hair is in incredible condition and i get compliments almost daily. He’s incredible with blondes and from what I’ve seen, all hair colors. I also use Connor at the salon for blowouts and, more recently cuts. He’s a gift too! My hair was weighing down my face, snip snip, he made a few strategic cuts and bam, cheekbones back. So Happy! I’m so appreciative of my Dynamic duo! I trust them and I recommend them wholeheartedly!

This salon is incredible! So posh without being pretentious. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted with a silky robe which began the «spoiling process» that will be your experience at Alessandro Mangerini Salon. They have a huge espresso/​water bar that then leads out to a huge, beautiful terrace!
I am a natural redhead (read: mostly auburn, not a ginger) and have never colored my hair before. Growing up I was always told, «you can’t get that color in a bottle!». I needed just a little pick me up as I’ve gotten into my mid-​twenties. My hair just looked plain dull but I wasn’t ready to dye it. Connor reassured me that he can help my hair get back to where it once was when I was back in college. He gave me a gloss and I have to say it was the best decision I could have made!
Connor paid so much attention to the details but yet the entire process only took less than 1 hour! In addition to checking my hair consistently to make sure it was coming out perfectly, he also glossed my eyebrows to then match my hair. Then once my hair was blown out, he brought me out onto the terrace to show how my hair would look in both indoor and outdoor light — so thoughtful!
I can’t say enough good things about Alessandro Mangerini Salon or Connor!

I came here a month ago for a haircut. My sister brought me here while I was visiting family and treated me to a haircut. Wayne styled my hair, and I can honestly say it’s the best haircut I’ve ever had. One month later, and my hair still looks awesome even styled by me. I got a drastic cut: my hair was 3 inches past mid back and I cut it to about shoulder length. My haircut took about 3 hours but I have very thick long hair. (The assistant sweeping hair kept muttering «Dios mio!» to the amount of hair I had.) The long haircut was worth the time! The cut looks just as good and light one month later, which is amazing! I highly recommend getting your hair cut here. Wayne Ng is a miracle worker.
My sister had recently got her hair colored by Wayne, and you cannot tell it’s not her natural hair. I would recommend this salon to anyone and everyone for the hair cut alone. The ambience is so relaxing and clean. Worth every penny and every minute I was in the salon.

Just got home and already received two compliments in the street from complete strangers. I love my new great shag haircut. I followed Thomas Clancey to Alessandro Mangerini as I would never have anyone else style my hair. I have had every trending cut with him for over 10 years. The atmosphere is phenomenal, the staff is friendly and the coffee is made to order. Tom has been cutting hair dry forever and no one does it better.

I want to say a few words about Federico Lupo who cuts hair at the Alessandro Mangerini Salon. I met him when he was at John Sahag, over a decade ago, and I have been going to see him ever since, whenever I am in town.
Federico seems like a relaxed, easy going guy when you first see him – skinny, casual, unrushed, his hair a kind of mop that, one understands without thinking, is something that seems almost accidental in its arrangement, but is not.
It’s all lanky easy going handshakes when you walk in; everyone is nice; they wash your hair and deliver you like a little wrapped present in your robe to his chair, maybe bring you a beverage on ice in the summer, or something hot in the winter.
Then, after a little discussion, Federico gets to work. At which point Federico’s face resolves into a look of concentration that verges of the severe. The transformation is almost amusing, but the primary response I have to this fierce concentration is to feel reassured.
He’s got scissors, a comb, a clip, but it’s as though that gaze is doing much of the actual work of shaping your hair – as though Federico were a particularly effective and stern parent who could get his children to snap into line with a mere glance.
As it happens Federico is a parent. Somewhere along the line I became one, too. There is usually some banter about the nature of children, of being a parent, specifics and generalities. He is able to maintain his concentration, and expression, throughout our chats.
At Mangerini there is a kind of mayhem all around — this is a guy’s point of view, it applies to most high end places I have seen. The men or women doing the styling and cutting stand behind chairs and, together with the person sitting, the subject of the cut, gaze intensely in the mirror as though into a crystal ball. Together, they imagine the future. Then they begin.
Federico has this bent at the knees posture when he works. He wants to get eye level with the hair, see it. At this sort of salon, at this price, the practice of cutting hair is concerned above all with matters of physics – everyone is working, one way or the other, towards the condition of a sustainable defiance of gravity, a task at which Federico Lupo is a master.
His attitude while working is important in many respects. Most important among them – he is very good at cutting hair. But also because it is good to feel he is totally committed to the task, focused. His vibe overall has a slightly rambunctious, let-​the-​chips-​fall-​where-​they-​may quality, while at the same time suggesting a personality that is fastidious to the extreme and obsessed with precision. Since I travel I don’t go to him regularly, but I have noticed that on the occasion that my picture runs in a magazine, it is usually one where he has cut my hair.
His concentration also disarms and calms you, and this is important when getting your hair cut. To enter the sort of high end salon where Federico works is to encounter the chaos of a zoo where the animals have all escaped and the trainers are pleading and cajoling with them to get back in their cages. At least that is how it seems to be, though it may be that as a man I am simply intimidated by the highly female energy of such places.
Obviously most of the people there are women. I am always suspicious of all the other men. What is wrong with you that you are so vain that you must go to a place like this? I ask while sitting in my chair. Then I look in the mirror. When I need or want to look good it is to Federico that I go.
I will report that I saw a woman leaving Mangerini after my last visit with the most opulently buoyant hair I have ever seen, the color a light, glowing chestnut. Her dress, shoes, and vibe were a bit Jackie O in her Onassis period, but also with the a quality that suggested she could curse in Italian. And she was with a poodle. The bounce in her hair mirrored the confidant bounce in her step – both were incredible.
Federico is who I turn to when I wanted to it to be known I don’t have a care in the world and that I am doing well. And Federico is who I turned to when I needed a haircut for my wedding. And both of these cuts looked rather similar, come to think of it, yet they were also different. And they were both just right.

I used a gilt voucher for $ 70 for a single process. I don’t know if this is typical of service there– but it doesn’t matter because it was my experience. almost 40 minutes past my appointment time– they come t get me– not once did they say we are late or sorry or anything. I explained I just wanted to match my roots to my hair and cover the grey. I have a few stubborn greys on the hairline by my ears. I told him that. He said my balyage was not brassy at ll but he wanted to just blend in the color a bit more but you would see the highlights. Well once the color was on I never saw him again. He left me until I was able to get shampooed. I was left at the sink for over 5 minutes. Then they asked me if I was leaving with wet hair– what??? Did I need a blow dry? You’re kidding right??? THEN I was sent to sit for a blow dry for over 20 minutes. Two stylists asked me what I was waiting for– but the two working on me were MIA. Finally the assistant came over and I told him I had to g because I had an appointment on 14^th st. I got a 7 minute blow out– of course it looked like a 7 minute blow out– not good at all but I had t go. I was meter parked and was not willing to get a $ 150 ticket because they were way behind. I was told it would be about 1 hr 15 minutes– not over 2 hours.
Everyone was super nice– no complaints on the place– it looked nice– clean and comfortable but I told the guy drying my hair that the color was too dark– I showed him the photo of my hair from just hours before I got there– I was in a hurry but really upset– Well you can see the color did not take to my hair line– some of it looks like there is a stain color on the hair but when light hits it you see the ‘sheen’ of gray coming in. of course the stubborn area I told him about he did not pay special attention to. It was as if he did not listen to a word I said– did what he wanted with color.
This was Saturday– it’s not in my head– all my friends and family who have seen me have asked me why I went dark— really really pissed!!! I left them a message but as the day draws to a close I have not heard back.
In the end– even if it was a gilt voucher it was still $ 70, plus $ 30 tip for the hair guy and $ 10 for the assistant– add my time and hair color that JUST RUINED A $ 300 BALIYAGE– and I would never go back.
I should add the only time the color guy came back to check on me was when I was paying and I asked the assistant to have him come look. He said he loved it– I am glad he did– I DID NOT. I had t run because I had another appointment but I would never go back.
Poor way to run a business– back to the red door spa I go–

Linda did it again! Took my mess of a head (ruined by other stylists from other salons) and transforming it into a stylish bob ready to grow out beautifully. Sure it cost a pretty penny ($ 180!) but when I calculate the bad haircuts for less which I kept having to redo it adds up to about this. Plus, she does bang trims at no charge.
I tried the rest now I found the best and I am not going anywhere else.

I’ve been coming to see Alessandro for 10+ years, even after moving to the new location 2 years ago the service is still phenomenal and I have always had a good experience. They make you look amazing and give you exactly what you ask for. Very talented and sweet people.

A friend of mine recommended I go check out this salon. He raved about Eugenia, who is a colorist there. She did my highlights as well, and I have to say, my hair looks and FEELS great! The salon has a very relaxing vibe to it…(I fell asleep while waiting for the color to take.) Also, Sara who shampooed my hair, gave me the most amazing scalp massage. It was HEAVENLY!
No wonder the salon is so busy!

I am absolutely in love with this salon and particularly gregory wilde. He is my favorite stylist and I leave the salon feeling like a million bucks. His extension/​volume service has transformed my hair and eliminated a lot of my thinning hair issues. In addition to the extensions, he does beautiful, natural professional looking color, I couldn’t praise him more! I LOVE LOVE his work.
