Lovely store with friendly staff. It feels very inviting and the store layout is good. The store is very clean and neat.

Love the product, but I had an extremely negative experience in the store on Madison. About a year and a half ago, I purchased a belt from the Dunhill store on Madison with the understanding that it was covered by a two year warranty. Over the course of the year and a half, the quality failed to meet up with Dunhill’s standards and I was told to bring it back to the store I purchased it at for a replacement — the leather was very worn down and actually cracked and a representative from another Dunhill store assured me the product was defective and to bring it back for a replacement no questions asked. However when I brought it back to the store as directed, the manager gave me an extremely hard time about taking back the defective product. He almost made it seem like he was doing me a favor by honoring the return policy. I would think it is a standard practice for a retailer to take back a defective product, especially if it is covered by the return policy. That is why I was very surprised I was hassled so much by a company that prides themselves on service. As I said above, I have had very positive experiences with other Dunhill locations, this review pertains only to the store on Madison.

Dunhill is impeccable, quality tailoring — a treasure to wear and cherish, as good in a couple years as it is the first day out of the store. For one to understand the value of the Dunhill marque is to delve into the history behind British motoring and choose a line that is most appropriate for you — whether that is some of the newer carbon-inspired lines or something a bit more traditional. Dunhill is a clothier that I can love from head to toe, especially their overcoats, belts and accessories. Their writing instruments, billfolds, briefcases and the like are also of the best quality, bar none. This is a brand that a person wears not for show, but for quality and personal enjoyment. You will not be disappointed with your experience here — with the service, the quality and the fabrics that will keep you coming back, time after time.

Barring a custom-made suit for 3k+, thier off-the-rack suits are almost always a sure thing: Slim english fit, slanted pockets, high-cut double vents, quality fabric that is of sufficient weight to hold its shape. Thier tailors are great as well(and free unlike at Saks, Barney’s, and Bergdorf). They’ll open all of the buttom holes and pockets in addition to ensuring a proper fit. That said, if you tend to wear your clothes too tight, you will likely take issue with thier tailors as they adhere to traditional modes of fit. But, not to worry, being a british company, the fit is great to begin with(this isn’t Brooks Brothers).

Like most premium luxury brands, their stuff is pretty hit-or-miss, and pretty overpriced. Still, there are some finds– their cufflinks never appealed to me much(I wear a set that were my grandfather’s, or I go to Montblanc), but they have nice sterling silver collar stiffners(I use a set in every collared shirt I wear, and I wear those most days, even at school), and I got a beautiful tie off their sale rack(which has some finds in general). My real treasure, though, is a set of their absolutely gorgeous driving gloves. They were around $ 200, but I wear them fairly often. I love driving, and to me such items epitomise the bygone days of driving, when the Sunday Drive was an actual thing, and not a vanishing part of lore. The sales staff were a little wary at first, and that’s understandable– I’m younger than most of their cleintele, and most people my age with disposable income that are in the market for premium luxury goods go to Louis Vuitton, Prada, etc. Still, I showed up in a suit, and how you dress makes a difference here– they were much faster to help me than they were to help other people in the store. After I made my purchases(and my AMEX wept), I received a hand-written thank-you note from my saleslady some time later. My mom noticed it, and told me that it used to be the norm at such places– but as they’ve become increasingly mobbed(Tiffany’s and Gucchi come to mind in particular) the practice of doing it has started to fade. Overall, their line is pretty hit-or-miss: the shirts and suits are pretty, but are fairly traditional– they lack the funkiness of similarly-priced(and often cheaper) offerings from Paul Smith, over on 16th and 5th, but like all such places, their sale items are often things of beauty.
