I had a Living Social voucher for $ 40 voucher for $ 100 for a custom cake. The arranging via email was easy and clear enough on what I wanted –a buttercreame cake mix with chocolate icing. Well, cake was delivered on time, day of my birthday, and the presentation looked great. However, unfortunately with first slice, it was apparent that looks were going to be deceiving. The cake was stale. And a bite of the slice confirmed a texture that I can only describe as dry, stale, cornbread. Needless to say the rest of the cake went straight into the trash. I went away for two weeks birthday vacation and just returned yesterday and will be letting Amanesca know of the inferior product.

Confession: Up until October 2010, I couldn’t cook flavorful white rice.
Until of course, I took one of Chef Eileen’s Latin Flavors cooking classes. All I can say is… that was money well spent! I learned to make stuffed plantains, chicken, white rice, sangria and a coconut custard.
And then we got to eat it all!
Attending this event was wonderful. Not only did I learn to cook white rice (there is a method!!!), but I also learned some cutting and cooking techniques.
Now I’m just waiting for the next class… hint…hint…
