AMC Loews Orpheum 7

Location, location, location. This place is really convenient if you live on the Upper East Side. Close to trains and close where I live. This theater could really use some updates, like stadium seating. If someone is wearing a hat or top knot then your view of the screen will be obstructed. The staff is nice and it’s relatively clean. Sometimes the lines are long for food and tickets so make sure you plan ahead if you can. Really the only problem I have with this place is the seating. Before 12pm, AMC movies are $ 6. Can’t beat that!

This is not my favorite movie theater. It’s possibly not even in my top 20. Hell, I’m not even sure why I’m being so generous with my stars here giving one more than the minimum. Location seems to be the main redeeming feature of this theatre based on most other reviews, but I won’t let that one count because it’s neither a particularly impressive accomplishment by management nor true in my case because it’s a nightmare to get to the UES from Harlem.
The two benefits I can think of are that, at this theater, tickets for Star Wars in its first weekend were still available long after they had sold out in pretty much every other New York cinema and that — being immersed in watching Star Wars — I was able to enjoy the experience of being there despite the sticky floor, broken seat and overall grime.
I’m not sure if I can blame this on the theater, but my friends and I were also arguably sharing a room with the most ADD audience ever. In several instances, so many people were walking out of the room that for a second I was wondering if Moses himself had shown up to guide the masses of people to the promised land, away from the clutches of a mediocre cinema experience. In the end that probably wasn’t the real explanation, but it may as well have happened for all that I know.
The point is, maybe AMC should just consider building doors into this theater that open and close with a bit less noise. I understand that 136 minutes are a long time to be holding your pee for some people, but oddly enough at AMC Lincoln Square and AMC Loews 34^th Street I managed to watch The Revenant (156 minutes) and even The Hateful Eight (187 minutes) without a single audible interruption.

This theatre is a necessary evil.
It is conveniently located and has current movies. It is also in desperate need of a remodeling!
The seating is old school, not stadium. They also don’t have reclining chairs. The floor is FILTHY! We caught a 10:00 am show and there was popcorn all over the floor, my guess is that it was there from the night before… The floor outside the restroom was so slippery (with God knows what) that I almost fell.
The sounds system is reasonably good and the staff seems somewhat alert.

I lived a half block from this theater. The elderly ticket taker was there so many years he watched my family grow up! They let him go during the recession! They told me he retired. When I saw him on the street one day he told me «no, they let me go»!!
The theater is always clean. Everyone friendly. Bathrooms clean.
They don’t put the movie names on the marquee any longer. I don’t like that feature. It takes away from the ambiance of a theater experience!
If tickets were not so outrageously expensive I’d still be going to this theater. I’d even bring grandma!

Where do I even start with describing this rundown atrocity? I know — the first place you enter — the lobby.
Unlike other theaters, where they let you through and you wait outside your designated theater until it’s ready, this AMC decided to make their already too small, too cramped lobby a waiting area with multiple lines and no communication as to which line you should be joining half the time. I’ve been there on rainy days where the lobby is so crowded and disorganized that you can hardly move… total fire hazard. And other days where the line (for a showing which starts in 40 minutes) stretches out the door and into the cold streets.
Once you get through, there are like, two concession stands — but only one of which is ever in operation and that one is usually manned by only 2 people, sometimes only 1 — at peak times, no less.
The theaters themselves are so old and clearly weren’t designed with customer experience in mind because they make no use of vertical space and have only a very slight incline, so if anybody who’s not a child sits in front of you, you can look forward to viewing the back of their head in the center of your screen for the next two hours. In fact, it’s such a problem that I actually stalk children in the theater to ensure I can sit behind them to avoid paying $ 18 to see half a movie (the top half).
To make matters worse, you have to get to this theater at LEAST 30 minutes before your movie time in order to get a seat that’s not in the front row.
All in all, this is a really old and rundown theater and is in need of a massive overhaul — either in the form of renovations, or discounted tickets to counter the poor viewing experience. Movie ticket prices just keep raising, but they haven’t poured any money into this two bit operation since it was built.

Customer service by management was atrocious. My father and I had tickets to see the new Star Wars movie. I had bought fandango months ago and my father was coming to watch from New Jersey as part of his holiday gift. His train was running late for the 12:30 pm show and I asked them nicely to split the ticket and hold it at will call.
Simple right?
The lady who was the manager told me she couldn’t do it. I then thought, «why not ask the kind ticket lady?» She scanned the ticket which she explained would give me two stubs. She is the reason you have two stars instead of one.
Gold, right?
So as a line formed downstairs for the film, I asked the lady at the ticket counter again for a chance they could hold it for my 68-​year-​old father.
She refused.
I explained the whole story to her. She then continued to say she didn’t want to. Not that it wasn’t policy, just that she didn’t feel like it.
I bought the ticket.
Am I taking crazy pills? Shouldn’t he have an opportunity to use it even if he is running late?
Her attitude sucks.

I came here with a date to check out a horror movie. Unfortunately, the screen was so dark and the projector bulb so dim, the majority of the film, which was very dark to begin with, was indecipherable. This was made obvious during the previews as well, so I don’t consider it the fault of the film. When the screen would fade to white, it was more like a fade to 50% gray. Long story short, dim screen, couldn’t see what was going on, won’t be back.

Despite this theater’s atrocious reviews online, my husband and I decided to see The Martian here after a Friday night dinner. In short, it is conveniently located to where we live. And with 1-​star ratings across the board, we were prepared for the worst kind of experience. I’m happy to say though, we had no trouble buying tickets, finding seats, or enjoying our Dasani water! It’s true, the theater does need a facelift (both in and out), and smells of foul flavors here and there. But that’s to be expected of an old venue. I wouldn’t go out of my way to recommend it, but being just two blocks away, it proves too convenient to ignore.

I’m not really picky about movie theaters. As long as it’s clean and bedbug free I’m with it. Therefore, this place is nothing to really write home about, but I have no complaints. Although, I really think there should be a rule about allowing parents to bring infants to action movies, knowing damn well the loud noise is going to make them cry.

Not going to lie… this place could use a serious face lift. You would pardon the appearance if you attended movies filled with fancy old-​timers who crept out of their rent-​controlled UES apartments. No, no… there is a slow building generation of movie go-​ers who want a little bit more than one concession stand and a rickety escalator.
This place is always immaculate because the movie you thought would be sold out… has plenty o’ seats. To be honest, I cant complain though… Last minute movie planning with my bestie leads to a hands down good time at this location.
Bathrooms are always empty and obnoxious times square commentary is non-​existent.

This movie theater is A-​OK. No, it unfortunately does’t have leather seats or stadium seating, but it’s not bad either. I came with a friend for a late movie on a Sunday night, so it wasn’t busy at all. I found it a little odd that most of the theaters are in a basement, like way underground down 2 staircases. The concession stand downstairs wasn’t open, so once I decided I wanted popcorn, I had to trek back up 2 flights to get it. Thankfully, they have escalators for the way up. Prices here are average — around $ 15, I think, for regular price, but I only paid $ 13 because they have a student discount which gives you a few bucks off. The staff here were really nice, and the theater was clean. My only complaint was that my popcorn was slightly too salty, but that just made it mores addictive, lol. I will be back.

This place is AMC right? First off let me start off by saying the exterior of this building isn’t very aesthetically pleasing by any means but you find out why once you enter the building. They only have 7 screens and the seats are very uncomfortable with no stadium seating so if someone taller than you sits in front of you, you can forget about enjoy your movie. No iMax, or any other distinct attractions to make this place worth going to at all over any other theatre.

I’m definitely not picky about theaters since I’m just there to see a movie but this was probably the worst one I’ve ever been to — try another location if you can. Bought tickets to see a movie about 10 minutes before it started and when we walked in there ALL the seats were filled. This happened to a lot of people after us too so we had to switch our tickets and wait for the next showing.
The theaters themselves are really small and fairly dirty. There’s no stacked seating and a group of tall guys sat in front of me so I couldn’t see a part of the screen. Will not be coming back here again.

I really want to LOVE this theater but they need to work on a few things.
They have all the movies you want to see, they offer several movie times, and they have many theaters and are generally clean. Plus, they are right by my apartment.
The theaters however are small, no stadium seating, and usually super packed. The seats are uncomfortable and often broken.
Even though they have two concession stands they only ever have one open, on the main floor. It is usually so crowded that the line almost reaches the entrance. It is nearly impossible to get popcorn and soda before the movie starts and even if you do you sacrifice getting a decent seat.
I keep coming back but I would have such a better experience if they would improve in the two areas mentioned above.

Small scramped theatres, popcorn is premade (chewy, old) small theatres.
Will not be returning, ever.

Tried this theater for the first time and was not impressed.
The theater felt very filthy — everything from the snack bar to the restrooms to the individual theater itself did not feel clean.
Teenagers were making loud noises and talking throughout the entire movie. Multiple people went to management and complained, but unfortunately, management did nothing about it. At $ 14.50 a ticket I would hope management at the theater would at least try to make sure all movie-​goers are having a good experience.
Worth traveling out of the Upper East Side to a different Loews theater where I know my movie won’t be disrupted and the theater is clean.

Its definitely not the best theater I’ve ever been to, but not too bad either. It’s small, cozy, friendly staff, clean and the seats were comfty, but I’ve experienced better places, one of which is on the UWS! **2.5 Stars

It’s your typical older movie theater. The seats aren’t staggered, so if a tall guy sits in front of you, you’re basically watching 95% of the entire movie. The seats are also made of some type of itchy, scratchy material, so if you’re wearing shorts like I was, you’ll want something like a sweater or jacket to sit on top of.
The movie was great — absolutely no complaints about lighting or sound or anything.
Obviously not the best movie theater ever, but it’ll do.

BED BUGS.
Yep, I was in a movie for about 15 minutes before getting attacked by bed bugs. 20 – 30 bites on my arms. Found the bug crawling on my shirt when I went to the lobby to get my money refunded.
Had to go to the hospital for a STAPH INFECTION because of this place. I was on antibiotics for 10 days.
Probably worthy of a lawsuit.
Don’t go here for your own safety.

This is one of those dingy AMCs typical of the city. It’s a world of difference from the beautiful new renovated one across town at 84^th & Broadway.
Everything here feels a little dirty, and like it hasn’t been cleaned or updated in the last 15 years or so. Actually, I can confirm that is the case as I have been coming here for that long and it is still the same.
The theaters are decently sized, but the seats are uncomfortable and there is no stadium seating, so you are out of luck like I was when stuck behind an old lady with a beehive. Unfortunately, that scenario is more uncommon than not in this neighborhood.
Hop on the crosstown bus and go to the AMC with reclining seats on the Upper West Side instead.

Been to better theaters for sure
