Overpriced drinks. Nice atmosphere. Good drinks, but obviously at $ 15 a drink, I haven’t tried that many drinks.

Great cool atmosphere with a plethora of cool cocktails to boot. Time will float away as you enjoy your beverage and company and thirst for more. I’m just not used to the $ 15NYC fare for a cocktail, but these were great. Granted, get there relatively early on any day or else you will have to wait outside or inside and really who wants to do that? Got a slightly watered down Dark and Stormy in a copper cup(cool, but isn’t that for Moscow Mules?) and their version of a John Collins that was more delicious. Can’t wait to come back on a sweltering summer eve and try some of the more sweet drinks like the Summertime and more. Detail to the finishing on the interior, low lit lighting to fit the mood, and snazzy drinks and people all around. Just a fine establishment for a solid beverage to begin or end your evening. Cheers!

Two location one takes smaller parties to keep up with the speakeasy hush hush ambiance. The other location takes larger parties. I had basically a hot toddy, but the most delicious apple moonshine, fuji apple, cinnamon stick, lemon, ect… yum yum yum! I didnt want to drink anything else after. It was the Fairy Tale. This place is a gem.

This place was pretty hidden. I was having dinner and my friend told me that I didn’t need to put my coat on bc we will be drinking. I was wondering why until I saw the hidden bar. I came here on a Saturday night and it was an hour wait. Even though the wait was long, I like the atmosphere there. It was relaxing. I got the te quiero tequila and I like it a lot. It tasted fresh. My friend got one that has smoke coming out. It looked pretty cool but I didn’t try it.

Cozy little hidden speakeasy in a Japanese restaurant. You can’t really come here with a crowd, but if you’re lucky enough to nab a seat, you’ll be treated to some amazing cocktails. Each one is a little gourmet recipe of its own. Spoke with the hipster bartender who was a true mixologist. He created the Venceremos… a drink which has it’s own Facebook page. He invented it and will be competing on a global level with this drink. You should come here if you really appreciate the craft of mixology.

Angel’s Share was my one of my first speakeasy experiences in New York, and I’ve cherished it ever since. Recently, I paid a visit with my main squeeze, with the express intention of showing her my sort of badassery of knowing the(not-so) secret places to drink delicious cocktails. Going up the stairs and heading to the door on the left, we were subjugated to about a 30 minute wait, which wasn’t too bad, given that it was a late Thursday night. The drinks were great, and definitely more unique. There’s a bit of Japanese flair to most of them, and these aren’t really cocktails you can get anywhere else. We got the Smoke Gets in Your Eyes(which almost actually did get into my eyes), the Cheek to Cheek, and the Mack the Knife. All delicious, unique, and strong as an ox, although it might have been because we drank everything pretty fast. We were lucky we ate beforehand, otherwise, we might have been too much to handle in the small seating space. Yet, during this most recent visit, the service was definitely lacking, especially in comparison to the excellent service I had previously. It seemed like we weren’t being paid attention to for long periods of time, but also at times, we seemed rushed by our waitress as well. I totally understand the need to rotate as many customers as possible, but it’s not the most professional to whisk out your customers the way they did. It’s such a shame because I kinda thought Angel’s Share could do no wrong. Blah. NOTE: For those of you who don’t know, Angel’s Share actually has another not-so-secret bar/annex upstairs at Sharaku at 14 Stuyvesant Street. They’ve got a good selection of rare Japanese whiskeys, so give that a try. There doesn’t seem to be a whole lot of information, and sometimes it’s closed at random hours, but it’s worth a look. I have to say I probably shouldn’t have hyped it up so much, because it certainly didn’t live up to my last experience at Angel’s Share. I was thinking of writing a 3 star review, but I’ll round up because of the memories. Nostalgia makes a man do weird things. Nonetheless, I’ll be back again, although perhaps not anytime soon, due to the long wait times and rushed experience. As Vania K. says: sip slow.

Awesome speakeasy. Go when it opens to avoid long waits! We arrived at 6:10(10 minutes after they open) and probably 60% of the place was occupied already. In keeping with the speakeasy vibe, they are very strict on the 4 person party maximum. We tried to get in the night before with 5 people, and even asked if we could be split into 2 groups but no luck. I ordered the«Smoke Gets in the Eyes» which is an absolutely amazing aromatic whiskey drink. The smoking presentation also leaves a memorable impression. I also had some other gin based cocktail that I’m blanking on the name, but it was quite good as well. We were seated next to a window in the second room adjacent to the bar, so we didn’t get to see any of the action happening behind the counter. Hopefully next time I can get a seat at the bar and be able to interact with the bartenders a bit as I’m curious to see their process and watch them work their craft. I definitely recommend Angel’s Share to anyone looking for a quality craft cocktail experience.

This is one of my favorite cocktail bars in the city. I’ve enjoyed every drink I’ve tried here — can’t go wrong as long as you like the list of ingredients. Somehow, the bartenders tend to concoct brilliant flavors from some seemingly random ingredients. My favorite drink is the flirtibird(because I love yuzu sake). This place has a nice, cozy atmosphere. The first time I came here, we were seated close to the window and it was nice to watch the drizzling rain while catching up over drinks. The music in the background is a soft jazz and not overwhelming at all — it’s really there for ambience, and thankfully we don’t have to scream at each other to have a decent conversation. A solid choice.

I have to be brutally honest. Angel’s Share is not for everyone, but everyone should go at least once. Since I’ve started my hunt for speakeasies around NYC, this is one of the only ones that I have consistently come back for and for good reason. In overall ambiance, this is one of the best decorated bars I have ever seen. Once you enter the unassuming door, you are greeted with a breathtaking mural to your right and a beautifully lit bar under it. Across from it there are a few booths and seats, with a giant window overlooking the street. Further into the bar, there is a backroom with more seating space and is definitely more intimate. The windows in this room are a bit drafty but the heavy curtains keep the cold out very well. Before coming to Angel’s Share, I have never experienced well dressed bartenders and this place definitely sets the bar(haha no pun intended). Angel’s Share is definitely one of my go to date bars, very impressive and very intimate. If you manage to get a seat at the bar, you can see all the care that goes into each one of their drinks. The bar and cocktails are beautifully crafted with many different and unique ingredients. The cocktails here are expensive for good reason, often delicious and well balanced, with something crafted to accent each spirit. Their drink menus rotate each season, I’m looking forward to the spring menu. My first drink here was a «Serenity» a vodka drink with accents of grapefruit and lychee. Being in my vodka phase, and a penchant for grapefruit I had to have it. This is a perfect first drink for anyone to have on their first visit here. It does lean a bit on the sweet side. If you’re a bourbon lover, you MUST try«Smoke Gets In Your Eyes». This drink is served in a smoke infused glass. If you watch them prepare it at the bar, they take a plate with some wood shavings. burn them and trap the resulting smoke into the glass. They bring the glass upside down to your table, and pour the bourbon right into the glass. The temperature of the bourbon keeps the smoke in the glass and accents the drink perfectly. The other notable drinks here are definitely: «Stormy Weather», «Bananas Foster»(they pour the drink while on fire!), «Mack the Knife», and«Cheek to Cheek»(more dessert than drink). Overall, you really get what you pay for at this bar. The drinks are strong, the ambiance is intimate, and«exclusivity» is exciting. I would probably be coming here for the rest of my life…

A great night here with my friend. We first came around 9:30 pm and was told we had to wait until 11:30. So we put our names and went to eat next door. We came back around the said time and sat at the bar. It was fun to interact with the bartender, GN. All the drinks we ordered were delicious and unique. And it was about Chinese New Year, at the end we were served a mini Cheek to Cheek. Surprise! The ambience was casual and the whole setting was nothing but comfortable. You can hang out with a group of friends or just chitchat between two. They are very accommodating and friendly. Will definitely go back.(Though a little pricy, $ 15 – 16.)

Cool classy vibes — it’s very dark inside. At first, I was so confused trying to find this place, but you have to go in a Japanese restaurant to get to this bar. It’s a fun place to check out when you’re either on a date or with 1 – 2 friends. The drinks are $ 15-$ 17 ish. I really liked all the drinks I tried.

A neat speakasy behind hidden doors on the second floor of a Japanese restaurant down in the bustling East Village. It’s a nice little getaway for a great cocktail with a few friends or a date, in a very intimate and private setting. It’s actually on a quiet strip. I love the ideas behind speakeasies, but I always wonder how pretentious they’re going to be. Also, some can be very difficult to get into and often times have waits because every patron must be seated(nobody can be standing). I understand the premise and history behind speakeasies, and I’m for it, but honestly, don’t go to them too often. The drinks at Angel’s Share are inventive and creative, and definitely worth it, if you’re into fine cocktails. As I mentioned, it’s dark, quiet, intimate ambiance is best suited for a drink on a date or a very small gathering of friends. It’s very unique and I’d highly recommend any visitors to check out a speakeasy while they’re in NYC. There were four of us and luckily we were able to get a table right away. We sat in the backroom, past the small bar where the bartenders make their concoctions, through a narrow doorway, and to this small table. The seats were small square ottomans, which were definitely old, or just heavily used, as the entire middle portion of the ottomon sank when we all sat down(including my roommate’s cousin who is under 5 ft and 100 lbs). My back definitely started to hurt about 10min into us being there — they should upgrade those. It’s hard to see, but that’s what they’re going for, and there are seats against the dark windows that overlook Stuyvesant St. We all got different things, which I feel is a must when you’re at a place like this. All of our drinks were fantastic and I wish I could remember the names, but I honestly cannot. I ordered two different gin drinks, with the first one definitely being better than the second. It was simple, tasty, and refreshing. There was also a hint of honey and lilac in the drink. Overall, it’s a solid speakeasy and I’d probably come back when I’m down in that area given the company I’m with. There are definitely other ones that I want to check out too.

Awesome spot for drinks and a date or just to catch up with friends. Very cool speakeasy for small groups. I got the fairy night, which was the perfect drink for a cold winter — filled me up with warm deliciously spiced apples and cinnamon. My friends got the ‘smoke gets in your eye’ which smelled and tasted very smooth and the venceremos, their promotional drink at the time, which was delicious. One star off because the ottomans we were sitting on were extremely uncomfortable — I left with back pain. I’d totally come back since chances of me having to sit on those ottomans in the back are slim-ish.

Baby, it’s cold outside. That’s why I’m inside, on the second floor, staring at someone shovel snow off their car through a floor-to-ceiling window. Tsk tsk poor bastard. As far as «secret bars» go, they’re not doing so well. As far as cocktails go, I don’t… I don’t wanna drink anywhere else… ever again. Anytime I bring a girl here, the story usually goes: «I love these drinks… but they’re so expensive.» I know I know, but daddy’s got you. XD I’m kidding. I can hardly support myself! But hey! If you have the money, get the Stormy Weather. The apple and cinnamon are so flawlessly executed with my whiskey. Hell, if ya got the money, get everything. Get the drink with smoke coming out of it. Get the«Cheek to Cheek» if you feel like having a dessert and a drink ATTHESAMETIME! Every drink is so damn pretty! To a point, that they’re not even drinks anymore, they’re theater. This bar is perfect for anyone with a love for cocktails AND a love for presentation. And it’s definitely sure to impress. If it doesn’t, do you really want to be dating that person? They probably hate smiles and feel nothing when shown videos of puppies. Point is: the whiskey comes in a hammered moscow mule. And wouldn’t you want that more than being at home doing nothing? Side note: Don’t hold any business meetings here. Unless you want to sleep with your boss; if so, than by all means.

Long story short, it’s a Japanese inspired speakeasy. It’s inside village yokocho and it’s very small. The first time i went here it was just with my wife and the wait time was reasonable, service was excellent and most importantly the drinks were pretty good. There are some of drinks that were pretty gimmicky. We love the ambiance, and the jazz playing in the background as you enjoy your conversation. Last night, we stop by here, it was five of us. I spoke with the waiter that i have party of five and immediately she pointed out the house rules and one of them happen to be max party that they take is four. The server was pretty nice about this so we left, alcohol-less and disappointed. Next time if you want to go in here with party of five or more, please go somewhere else. This is not good for group, it’s good if you want to bring your date kinda place.

Mix umeshu(a Japanese liquor made from plums) with Laphroig 10yr, and what do you get: A) one of the simplest cocktails ever B) an incredibly well balanced cocktail C) a genius creation from the impeccable bartenders at Angel Share All of the above! Seriously, what an amazing speakeasy, which stands out in a city full of speakeasies. I recommend going on an off-night: we came in at 11pm on Wedneday and had no trouble being seated at the bar for a memorable night :)

Cool speakeasy in East Village. Come here instead of pretentious Please Don’t Tell. I came on a date around 8:15 on a Friday and we were seated after a few minutes. If you come later, I imagine the wait gets much longer especially because they have a no standing policy. To all the people who complained about the expensive drinks, what do you expect? This is New York and a cocktail bar! I don’t like spending $ 15 on a drink every time, but sometimes it’s nice to treat yourself. The vibe is very elegant but still cozy with dim lights and small tables. I didn’t like our table much since the seats were so low to the ground. I felt like I couldn’t fit my knees under the table since I was wearing heels. I ordered the Serenity, which had grapefruit and lychee. It was so good! It was sweet, without being sickeningly sweet. The lychee in the bottom was a delicious end to the drink. My date got smoke gets in your eyes. They brought it out with the cup turned upside down. He really liked it, but I am definitely not one for bourbon or the smell of candle smoke. Tl:dr good place for a date, interesting drinks, expensive, but you pay for the vibe.

Very hard, if not impossible to find! Go upstairs to a Japanese restaurant and ask there. You will just be a door away from a cocktail Sakura paradise! The cocktails are carefully crafted and there is something really pleasant about watching the bartenders here work. Their precision, slower pace and in general less ‘noisy’ style of work was magnetic. Almost like sushi chefs, carefully crafting their concoctions. This place is in general rather quiet and multiple signs throughout the room are a silent reminder of a silence required ;) The mural above the bar is interesting and definitely a conversation starter. I had a cocktail with some coconut notes, and unfortunately it was a bit too sweet and trivial for me. Next time I will try something else!

Just about perfect cocktails. Presentation is top notch and flavors are balance and unique. Not sure if they were short staffed but they could have done with an additional bar back or busser. Not your typical crowd around the bar and shout your order to the bartender. This place is sophisticated and you will be served only while seated.(Just like a restaurant, duh) Almost perfect stars here but quoting times and service was pretty slow. Be patient and you will enjoy your lovely cocktails.

More than one visit and this place did not win me over. It’s a great place if you want to show out-of-towners something interesting, but less perfect if you want to go and have a good time. I love the speakeasy approach up rickety stairs through a not-so-impressive Japanese restaurant. Pull open the side door and you enter a whole other universe of drinking and fine cocktails. Study the menu and pick something that looks interesting. It will be crafted to perfection by Japanese bartenders in semi-formal attire. But don’t try to engage them in conversation, you’re not going to make any headway. Becoming a «regular» doesn’t seem like an option here. The scene is more mechanical and robotic than engaging or enjoyable. I tried two drinks, one with ginger that was a bit overpowering. and the smoky one that looks great and tastes pretty ordinary. Sitting at the bar I was able to observe them mixing the drinks and that’s where the robotics comes into play — very precise motions and exactly measured pours, they were more like chemists following a formula than bartenders making a drink. I think the new cocktail vending machine that is being developed may put them out of business. So come by all means and maybe you can warm this place up a bit.

The cocktails here are delicious. The bartenders are quite skilled and service is delightful. I ordered something with egg whites in it. I forgot what it was, but it was delicious. I asked for a straw, because my teeth were feeling sensitive that day. The waiter brought me a straw after kindly explaining to me that this cocktail is more delicious without a straw and encouraged me to try it without a straw. It’s hard not to have a good time here if you’re the type of person who just wants to sit down and relax and have a non-screaming conversation over a few drinks. You just have to go up the stairs and through the unmarked door. There is usually a bit of a wait, but I don’t think I’ve had to wait more than a few minutes.

Cool speakeasy that I’ve been meaning to check out for a while now. We went right after a late dinner at Ippudo on a Wednesday night and were seated with no wait. Yay! It’s located inside a walk-up izakaya restaurant — smaller than I imagined, but big enough. We sat in the stools facing the window. It was a nice vibe. Drinks are nicely executed — mixology done right. Great place to grab a great drink.

Angel’s Share lived up to its reputation as being a cozy, attractive, hidden speakeasy with great drinks. It might be unfair to dock the place for its popularity, but the crowds waiting inside the door block the bathroom and give Angel’s Share a frenetic and sometimes crowded feel, which is too bad considering it’s otherwise a very chill, easygoing, classy spot. We had very good service and enjoyed our(typically expensive) drinks. Tip: Get there early to avoid a wait! We arrived fifteen minutes after it opened and snatched a table, but ten minutes later people were queuing up for seats.

I’ve been hearing great things about Angel’s Share for years and finally checked it out on the Thursday night between Christmas and New Years. It was packed, as I expected, and very stuffy. The cocktails were great(I loved the Cheek to Cheek, made with rum, berries, white cranberry juice, balsamic honey, and yogurt mascarpone) but the service was terrible from the moment we arrived. The waiter felt bad that the tables around us got their drinks before we did, even though they ordered several minutes after we did, and gave us complimentary spicy popcorn. And the makeshift waiting area is in this tiny space in front of the door and the bathroom, which was not pleasant at all when there were 10 people waiting. Not a fun start to our date. I’m glad I finally experienced Angel’s Share but I definitely won’t be back and would recommend many other speakeasies over this one.

A hidden speakeasy located in a sushi restaurant. Go up the stairs(2nd floor) and turn left– go through the door. Small narrow hallway — with some seats in the back/front and at the bar. Cute elegant spot to go with friends to get a specially made cocktail. I got the mack the knife– delicious!!! You have to read the drink description to see what you’d like. Drinks are ~$ 15 a pop, typical speakeasy prices. Good date spot or to just hang a drink with your friends before you head out for a night in the city. Intimate setting for a close group of friends or date night.

Smoke Gets In You Eyes(yes, like the song by the Platters) is definitely the most popular drink. Within 2 hours, I counted 4 glasses of smoke. It is a strong drink made of Bourbon and temple incense smoke. I didn’t find it very attractive because I have had a similar but better cocktail. However, for NYC, Angel’s Share is probably the only speakeasy where you can find a smokey cocktail. Cheek to cheek, on the other hand, is very light and feminine. The drink is basically Rum and cranberry juice, topped with Mascarpone cheese yogurt. It is a very smooth and light drink, almost like a creamy dessert. It is in fact a dessert because you will have to use a spoon to, well, eat the cocktail. Tip: Go on a Sunday night. You won’t have to wait.

Angel’s Share is a very elegant speakeasy. As soon as you walk in, there is a beautiful mural of an angel with just the right amount of lighting. This is the perfect place for a date night being that the maximum amount of people in the group you have is limited to 4. I ordered the Serenity(Lychee-cello, ruby red grapefruit, lemon juice and rose water). My dream drink! Although it is a little pricey, I really didn’t expect the drinks to be cheap because it is a speakeasy.

Angel’s share 2.0. It is literally right next door to the original with a separate entrance on top of Sharaku. Just walk through the Sharaku entrance and up the stairs. The space is nice and quaint, great for lounging with some nicely made cocktails with friends or on a date. The service was attentive, constantly refilling the water. As for the cocktails($ 14−16+), very delicious. I first got the Hemingway, which was nice and fruity, a great balance of grapefruit and cherry I thought. Super refreshing! The second I got was the snowball. It tasted like a creamsicle custard. Also satisfying. I tried my friends Fairy Night which was basically hot apple cider with actual slices of apple in it. Spot on for a cold winter night! Overall, great vibe. Get here early bc there will be a wait.

There service is so rude! They’re not even busy on a Wednesday night and they won’t seat a party for more than 4 people when they clearly have the room for it. So my party had to split into 3 people each and the waiter yelled at us for being too loud when clearly the room is just as loud as we are. Mind you, we weren’t being obnoxious nor is this place a library. Even before ordering the drinks, the waiter pissed me off. As a visitor to the city, I’m clearly just pissed off with his rude attitude. Even the bartender when we asked for a table refused to speak to us after we told him we had a party of 6. We even asked if he was ok with us sitting separately and he just kept on saying no. Eventually my 3 friends decided to leave because he was being impossible. Such rude service I’ve had in the city. I’m really disappointed and dissatisfied because we tried twice to get into this bar and even came back because we heard such good things about it.

Instinctivement, on parle à voix basse.

Gotta love a well known, not-so-hidden speakeasy. Walk into Village Yokocho, head up the stairs and enter the unmarked door to the left. They’re SUPER strict and will only allow a total of 4 people in your party. You can’t pretend there’s two of you and then another 3 people later on. As soon as they see you wave or make eye contact with someone else, you’re out. It’s not cash only, they absolutely accept credit cards. So let that be known. I wish I’d spent more time in here, but alas, I made it in for one cocktail while I was waiting for my table at Ippudo. I chose the Evidence: earl grey-infused gin, lillet blanc, lemon and ginger ale. Definitely good. There were so many more cocktails that looked delicious. Until next time!
