Things that were divine: — Chicken paillard — Bread — Appetizer pizza with spinach and ricotta — Service — Ambiance

I have to say it wasn’t all that bad. Get the capricciosa, it’s a classical Italian thin chicken cutlet and it is delicious! It’s huge as well, so make sure you are hungry! As a true Italian, born in Rome, I speak fluently and I have an Italian passport; know that the chicken cutlet is actually a classic. The only non-classic part is the portion size, but we are in America. My friend got the gnocchi, it was awful. The only good part was the short ribs, but the gnocchi were horrendously overlooked and swimming in the sauce like a soup. Also what I didn’t like was the bread they served with ricotta and marinara. In my opinion, that’s just way too heavy to start your meal with, and they didn’t even have the option of just olive oil and salt. They had Nero d’Avola which is a safe but nice choice for wine. I would only ever come back if I had friends who wanted to go but I’d never actually decide to come here.

Very nice restaurant with nicely dimmed lights, very good food, service and wine list. Menu is not large, but everything is very tasty. We had wild boar lasagna and veal bolognese and it was perfect for chili evening.

Had about as good of a restaurant experience as one could possibly hope for. Amazing food, incredible atmosphere and among the best service you could hope for. Big thank you to both Diego and Ricardo who were exceptional. Would recommend 10⁄10.

As the sun set, my mind drifted toward Italian. As I entered, the luminous glow of Apizz, was he first of many to radiate. I knew something special was abound… Our bottle of vino was delish– but most impt the staff was incredible and friendly! Oh yea– those MEATBALLS were perfection(thats what she said). Incredibly soft but didn’t fall apart in the best red sauce ive had in awhile, second to what I make homemade. ;). The flavor combination of beef, veal, and pork is really unrivaled. The Skate– crispy on the top, lemon caper and a hint of butter all around– the complimentary potatoes were broiled to perfection. Our spinach canaill bean salad was great, the mushroom and polenta was awesome– and I could have made a meal of just the bread/ricotta/red sauce by alone. Two thumbs up all around, reminds me what new york Italian is and should be all about. Oh ya, the hankerchief pasta we got on the side was bombbbb and cooked to perfection. Thank you Apizz for making my Friday night

This is my FAVORITE restaurant. I love the oven-baked skate fish, polenta appetizer, shrimp appetizer and the bread pudding. Everything is cooked in a wood burning oven. Sooooo amazing. Five stars all the way. I love the service too. The staff are superb. I also love the warm bread and sauce they bring to the table. Great wine list. I HIGHLY recommend this place!

I have been to Apizz twice in the past couple months. It’s located on Eldridge, in a somewhat secluded area – the only place on that block. Maybe that is why it hasn’t blown up more, because it’s delicious. The bread comes with ricotta and warm marinara sauce(more interesting than the typical olive oil. I highly recommend the insalata di fromaggio, all of the Apizz(little flatbread pizzas cooked in their brick oven), the gnocchi, and the ravioli con zucca, but I’m pretty sure it’s all good. The low yellowish lighting creates a nice atmosphere and the brick oven makes the whole place smell great. The food was authentic and the service great!

Perfect spot for a romantic dinner date. Came here to celebrate an anniversary and was really pleased with the food. Easy to get a table, though we did eat rather late at 9 pm. Started off with a refreshing summer blood orange mojito cocktail with a crisp prosciutto pizza with arugula. For dinner I had the gnocchi which had the perfect light and airy consistency for the pasta, along with a rich braised short rib sauce. The sauce was hearty with chunks of short rib along with sprinkled cheese, and a big enough portion to take some home. My boyfriend had the skate, which was by far some of the best fish I have ever tasted. The fish was cooked well in a great lemon garlicky butter sauce that I started dipping bread in. Would definitely recommend this place and am looking forward to going back again!

Wow. Authentic Italian at its best. It’s non assuming location is overshadowed by the great food. Must get the stuffed meatballs and short-rib gnocchi.

AUTHENTICTUSCANITALIAN. Please know what this is before going. Had early reservations and were seated immediately with a smile. Very small quaint, warm inviting place. We had 6:30 reservations, but our guests were running 30 minutes behind schedule. At the 20 minute mark we were asked if our guest were coming and we said yes, but they were a bit behind. They were understanding and not rude about it whatsoever. We felt obligated to start ordering, so we order a bottle of wine & a couple appetizers. Ordered the spinach & cheese pizza and Insalata Di Formaggio. Pizza was small and good(didn’t blow my mind but I didn’t hate it) Salad was very basic and boring. Wasn’t impressed with that selection, BUT it wasn’t bad it just was basic. Our guests then arrived and they gave us enough time to order and we didn’t feel rushed. We then ordered Insalata Di Polpo. Small portion, but enough for 4 people. That was on point, seafood was prepared to perfection, wasn’t hard and wasn’t too soft. remember people seafood is slimy. For our main dishes we had the Risotto and Fazzoletti E Granchio and everything was done to perfection and both very delicious. Be warned though, the dishes are VERY hot when they come out because they’re made in a wood burning stove. Wine selection is very good and they have mid-tear to high-tear prices. Northern Italian wine down to Southern Italian wine including Sicily. After dinner drinks are pretty amazing too. Port, Grappa, Sambua. It gets 4 starts not because it’s bad, but just because it’s good wholesome Italian food. Not overly wow and not overly bad. It’s really good middle of the road done right Tuscan Italian with imported products. This adds to the flavor and why the dishes are more expensive then other establishments. For those who don’t dine Italian everyday, you probably wont notice this and should stick to something else. As for Emma who gave it 1 star? I’m not sure if she’s just an angry person or what(sorry Emma) but my food came out fast, service was prompt, atmosphere was cozy and fun and the meal is far from a waste of money. Not all Italian is created equal, what goes into it is what makes it better then other Italian. I hold Italian food in high regard and eat it A LOT and they put quality into their dishes. Also, remember different parts of Italy do dishes differently, things are prepared differently etc. If you want to have good authentic Tuscan Italian food then head here. I also read that the food was slimy… hmmm pasta is boiled in water and tomatoes produce liquid, that’s what happens. Real Italian pizza is also some what watery and flimsy(again this is what happens when tomatoes are crushed and cheese is fresh) If you don’t know this, then don’t eat Italian style pizza. Stick to American style pizza and American Italian.

Went there on a recommendation. Checked out the menu on their web site. All looked good… You know what I’m going to get right to the point. You all see my rating so I’m not going to beat around the bush. This place sucked. Lasagna was ok, sea food risotto was very bland and the deconstructed ravioli we’re horrible. The chef if there is one should learn what«a little nutmeg goes a long way» really means. If I paid half of what it cost this would of been a three or four star review. On a brighter not if your taste buds were destroyed by a grenade accident during your army training this is a five star restaurant, the dishes look good. For all others avoid this place.

The worst restaurant I have been to in my entire 16 years. I am not a pretentious person, but I do consider myself a «foodie» as I have come from a family who values home cooked and simple but delicious meals. Apizz was by far the most disgusting location I’ve been to. Gross atmosphere, limited staff, and overheated slimy food. The atmosphere is fit for a sushi restaurant, but they serve scorching«award winning food» under a yellow light, 2 hours after you order it. Had to take a walk outside before paying because I couldn’t stand my revolting surroundings. Any meal here is a waste of money. If you enjoy spice mixtures that make you cringe, and waiting for the check for as long as it would take a main course to come at a regular restaurant, have at it. Ps. I downloaded Unilocal just to give my input about this restaurant. I will be here with my honest opinion, and it usually isn’t this negative. Congrats on listening to my first rant about an awful restaurant.

Went on a Friday night at around 10PM without a reservation. Was seated within 20 minutes. Everything was delicious — polenta, short rib gnocchi and veal bolognese. Apizz is my new go-to spot!

Thank you to my foodie New Yorker friends for bringing me to this delightful Italian eatery with a relaxed vibe that’s perfect for a Saturday night. I had the seafood risotto that while not traditional was damn delish! The meatballs were devoured by everyone at the table and I loved the shrimp appetizer. Bread is fresh served with warm tomato sauce and ricotta and the service by NY standards is pretty good too. Definitely a place you want to hit up on a cold winter day to snuggle up and have some comfort food.

5 stars if it were just a bit less pricey. Food was awesome, although not a lot of it. Don’t get me wrong, we didn’t leave hungry but the portions weren’t what we expected. Left room for dessert.

This restaurant had been recommended to me so I was looking forward to trying it. I must say I was a little disappointed. It just wasn’t as memorable or outstanding as I was expecting. Don’t get me wrong – everything tasted good. The bread to start was mediocre although the sides of tomato and ricotta were great. The octopus salad was fine, the boar lasagna also fine but not amazing. The whole fish was by far the best of the night. Service was good and the restaurant is pretty but something(perhaps a little creativity with the dishes) was just missing. Can’t quite put my finger on it. Oh well.

This is my local hidden gem around the corner. It’s a small intimate restaurant. I love the lighting and ambiance. The food is amazing and fresh with a brick oven in sight. You can’t go wrong with whatever you order. The complimentary bread with marinara and ricotta is hard not to fill up on before your meal. My favorite dish is the Fazzoletti E Granchio. I only give it 4 stars because you usually have to wait for a reservation that you already made. This is because people just dont want to leave and linger so long after their meals. Also, you dont really have anywhere to wait for a table. But the food and service is just good enough it makes you forget about that in the end.

Such an adorable restaurant, very nondescript from the front. There is a cute bar area separate from the dining room. Wine, food, and service are all very nice. They have some nice affordable bottles of wine, which was great for our party of four. We started with two of the pizzas(they are quite small so two were perfect for 4 people to start): the margherita and the white pizza. The margherita had some sort of garlic oil that was fantastic — I liked it better than the white one. For entrees we had chicken paillard, the lasagna(fantastic), the steak, and the gnocchi with short ribs(also fantastic). They have a great specialty cocktail menu as well. We lingered for awhile after dinner and continued to have drinks, and the waiters were very happy to let us stay. The atmosphere is cozy and intimate, and as others have noted, this is a great date spot. I would definitely come back!

So this place is kinda awesome! Darkly lit, check. Nice warm ambiance, check. Good service, check. Good food(big portions too), check. Definitely checking all of the boxes. I love the space of this restaurant; the brick oven and wood ceiling give it a very warm and cozy feeling. The crowd too is low key, which is awesome. I went with the ravioli with butternut squash and sage brown butter sauce and enjoyed the dish a lot. I’m not huge on sweet things, and with the brown butter sauce and the butternut squash, this dish was pretty sweet, but sooo yummy too! He liked the bolognese and the Sclian Goose cocktail, and our waiter recommended a nice dry red wine for me. The banana bread pudding was awesome for desert, perfect for two people to share and not too sweet. My only suggestion would be to add a second vegetarian pasta option to the menu.

I came here with some friends on a whim. It was a really great dining experience. To start, they give you bread with tomato and ricotta. Delicious of course. We ordered the rib gnocchi – very very tender gnocchi and ribs. Bursting with savory flavors. Nothing like an gnocchi dish I’ve ever tasted. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The lasagna was also very delicious, came in its own little hot pot/plate thing. The waiter changed utensils and places with every course. Everyone was very friendly and professional. It was a lovely dinner. The atmosphere was very intimate. Really low lighting, redish glow on everything. The tables were close together and the booths were comfy. I imagine this would be a great place for a date. =) Such a little place with great flavors. I recommend it!

ah-BEETS!!!
