This placed is closed and is rebranding to a fried chicken joint. Sounds crazy… But I know this because:
My reservation for this weekend was just cancelled by Après. And I was told they will be closed for 3 months and «going in a different direction.» They told me the direction is Korean fried chicken that has received good reviews for some location in Westchester. Jjjeeeeaaaahhhh. Oh well! Wherever The Elm guy went… I would still like to follow him. :(

I miss APIARY… at APRES Food is beautiful as it adorns your plate… but poof and it is gone!!! portions are minute at best… at a price… we left disappointed and hungry, but thank goodness for a city that never sleeps, you need never go hungry. we had delicious grilled cheese chasers at a famous nyc eatery which i will not disclose now…

We had a wonderful dinner here on May 28. I thoroughly recommend the prix fixe option, which was exquisitely put together and explained to us at each course. The staff are attentive but respect your privacy. Everything was great, but special mention has to go to the panna cotta dessert with persian cucumbers (!) and rhubarb, scattered with toasted sunflower seeds. We also very much enjoyed the octopus KAO, the black bass, the mackerel crudo… OK, everything. A good wine list with some very decently priced options from most regions. The music playing (mostly classic rock and indie) was a little bit incongruous with the décor and the clientele, but that would be my only quibble.

It was GNO and our lovely group of ladies went to Apres, formally known as Apiary for dinner. It’s a super cute restaurant with beautifully elegant décor set in the heart of the the Union Square/​East Village area. It truly is the perfect setting for an intimate dinner, especially if you like sleek, and trendy décor.
The food and service here is really great. They have unique dishes ranging from meat, fish and pasta. The only issue I had with the food here is that it runs a little on the small side and it’s a little pricy. The night that we went, we just missed the weekly pre-​fixe specials, so if you want to take advantage of that, check which days it’s available prior to making your reservation!

Don’t let the subpar décor fool you, this reinvention of Apiary has brought it to another level. Small plates, but a fantastic prix fixe for just $ 58. With six different orders we never had a single miss.

Be warned that most of the reviews and pictures on Unilocal are for Apiary, not Apres. Apres came across as pretentious, with laughably small portion sizes (4 carrots does not equal a $ 20 main). It has since become a running joke with my date and I.
I think they’re still finding their feet under their new name and menu. So I’d leave them for a few weeks to sort it out. Buyer beware.

Same owners, new name… used to be Apiary… I guess they’re reinventing themselves. Stopped in for drinks while waiting for a table elsewhere.
Nice set-​up. Good wine. No complaints. Bartender seemed genuinely out to help and was knowledgable about the wine. I would def consider coming back to try new menu.
