The wine, the food, and the prices at Aria are truly awesome. Cannot be beat. Would go again and again. I only take stars away due to the ridiculous behavior of the management. We had occupied our table for about an hour when they began pressuring us to get up. Wiping the table around our elbows, taking away half finished glasses, and the worst– having the people waiting for our table walk past us and give us anxious and desperate glances. Before leaving, when I asked about the restroom, I was even told there wasn’t one, just so we would leave that much faster. When confronted about this behavior,(it was my birthday dinner and an hour and a half for dinner is not unreasonable), he denied everything, was very confrontational, and essentially escorted us out. TL;DR– Don’t come here if you want a relaxing dinner with a bottle of wine. Very assembly line feel.

One of my favorite places in the city. It’s very small and intimate, so it’s perfect for date night. The food is ridiculously fresh, well seasoned and authentic.

This wine bar is an overall meh. Both the Cab Sav and the Pinot were lackluster. The $ 20 prosciutto dish was not great either. There are so many amazing places in the West Village and, sadly, this is not one of them.

This is the sister(or twin) of Cotenna in Greenwich but for a restaurant with the same menu, it somehow did not meet the mark that Cotenna sets. Ambiance(nice) — Bigger space, and lively. The brick walls and tile create a warm space. Food(average) — We ordered two apps(burrata and octopus) and two pastas(mushroom and a red-sauce based pasta). The apps far outshined the pasta on our visit, especially the charred octopus. The pasta was a bit stale and didn’t have the spring I’d expect from fresh pasta. The special apps are always good but pricier than the regular menu items. The ricotta cheesecake we closed with came with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and fruit purée, and was delicious. Service(great) — Very nice waitress who ensured our wine glasses were always filled!

Love this wine bar. The two only flaws I would say are that there isn’t any outdoor seating, which is unfortunate because there are tons of similar places around with outdoor seating options. And also it’s very loud in there, and tight. It was hard to hold a conversation when there were people right next to you also shouting to talk to one another. Other than that, it was so great. The menu is so large and there are so many different options. We got a bottle of Chianti which was great, the lobster ravioli’s, the lamb, the porchetta bruschetta, the prosciutto wrapped mozzarella, and maybe one other thing but I can’t remember. The tapas came out in a timely fashion and the service was good. The waiter who took our order seemed a little bit like rushed and forward, quick almost. But it was more as if he was foreign and that’s just how he does things than a bad service. It was a little awkward but laughable for sure. The prices at Aria are amazing, I would say. It’s like between $ 7 and $ 10 for a delicious appetizer and they’re perfect sharing sizes for two people. It’s definitely very romantic there and I could see how it would be a bit more intimate(person to person wise, rather than lighting and mood) if it were a bit more empty because you wouldn’t have to shout. The food was absolutely amazing and I will definitely be coming back again.

I was in between 3 and 4 stars mainly due to the rushed service and rude doorman. The food was good and our waiter was awesome so for that they gained the extra star. I called a few days in advance wondering if i could make a reservation(note: they do NOT take reservations for small groups) but the guy on the phone said it shouldn’t be a problem for a group of two and tables move fast… I get there and the guy at the door just said«no room» pretty rude, then I asked what if I come back in an hour? And he said ok there will probably be good then. ok… Come back in an hour(10pm) and there was space at the bar, great! We were seated and starving so ordered a bottle of white wine and the burrata to start. Super small restaurant with only a few tables but felt really intimate and cozy. Our waiter was super friendly and suggested other popular items on the menu. The burrata came out so fast I barely had time to even have a sip of my wine… but it was delicioussssss served with prosciutto. I literally had two bites of my appetizer when our mains came out. Kind of rushed??? But no worries we were starving and I tried the tortelini and the fettuchini with mushrooms and truffle oil both of which were delicious. We were in the mood for dessert and tried both the tirimisu and panna cotta both deliciouss and fresh. If you are looking for a slow, quiet meal, to have a deep conversation. this is not your place. but if you want trendy fun fast and delicious Aria will be your jam !

Wow. It is 10:15pm and my friends and I were looking to come in and eat. This Unilocal post says that Aria is open until 1:00am. However the owner said that they were«closing in half an hour.» Interestingly enough the group just went in the restaurant before us. I wonder if our appearance had anything to do with the refused service. It was my understanding that operators in the City, especially the West Village, were gay friendly and certainly friendly to a group of racially diverse young professionals. I would suggest thinking twice before patronizing this establishment based on this questionable practice.

Quaint Italian restaurant in west village. I had the lunch prix fixe($ 16 for pasta and glass of wine). Oriechette with broccoli rabe and sausage– delicious, and with a red sauce, not olive oil sauce. Friends ordered lobster ravioli and they were in heaven. Kale salad had the freshest Parmesan cheese and crunchy almonds — texture was perfect. And, to top it off, the most charming waiter. Love this place!

pretty overpriced and pushy staff. i definitely over ordered when i decided to dine here with a friend. i hate it when waiters tell you how many dishes they recommend to order because i always end up over ordering and paying a shit load. the food was just ok, not that memorable and once we decided to stop ordering wine, they were basically trying to shove us out. probably wouldn’t come back.

A quaint, Italian wine bar franchise with two locations, one here in the West Village and the other in Hell’s Kitchen. They specialize in Italian pastas and wine for super affordable prices. I started off with the Tagliatelle Bolognese. It was excellent, with generous meaty chunks throughout the sauce. The pasta was a bit overcooked for my taste, but nothing I couldn’t overlook. As this place is more a tapas style bar, all the portions are small. My first entrée obviously didn’t fill me up, so I ordered a second pasta. I also ordered the Fettuccine with wild mushrooms. Now this was the true standout! The Fettuccine was bathe in this nice, garlic buttery sauce and topped with seasonal mushrooms. As always when I eat Italian, I ended the night with a hot, frothy cup of Cappuccino.

Still one of my favorite spots. It won’t be another 2 years until my next visit :) Had the waiter ‘order’ for us and everything was superb. One of the best Octopus dishes I’ve ever had(don’t typically like it). Mushroom bruschetta was excellent, the lamb chops fabulous and the company perfection.

The one overriding memory I’ll take away from my time in New York is the sheer amount of places to eat… I must have walked past this cute little eatery on countless occasions on the way to eat elsewhere… anyway last night was the night to stop and try it. Excellent it was too. Small, buzzy, friendly, noisy and great food. Menu has some excellent sounding dishes on it and for me, the pick was the Italian sweet sausage lentil stew which was outstanding — however in fairness there wasn’t a bad dish I tried. I’d like to say I’ll be back(and I hope I will)…it’s just so many restaurants so little time… you really are some lucky and spoilt people.

It used to be a good spot, but now it’s so impersonal that I probably won’t come here ever again. If you’re food is mediocre, but the atmosphere is fun, you NEED to have good service… two out of these three things need to be above average for me to come back again. Unfortunately, the service was so bad that we actually left before even eating. The waiter sat us at the bar across each other, but not fully in front of each other, does that make sense? Kind of diagonally. And when we said that the seating arrangement made it uncomfortable to have a conversation, he didn’t even say a word to us and just gave the table to someone else. He looked pretentious and the whole atmosphere felt like we were begging the establishment to take our money instead of us buying good service and good food. Again, it used to be a very fun spot and I’ve been there numerous times, but when the service lacks and they start treating me as if I’m annoying them with my presence, that’s when they lose me.

Aria did some things as well as any restaurant, but fell well short on others. Let’s get started. Food: Tapas — Cheese plate, charcuterie, burrata with tomato and prosciutto, Linguini with a mushroom cream sauce, tortellini with peas and prosciutto in a light cream sauce, meatballs with marinara, truffle Mac n cheese, penne with shredded Osso buco, crème brûlée, tiramasu, red and white wine. Everything was delicious. Mac n cheese was some of the cheesiest ever and the meatballs were light and tender. Pasta in mushroom sauce is a must if you like mushrooms. Actually, just get everything. No complaints on the food. However, the red wine was served far warmer than it should have. It was still drinkable, but a more picky person than I might easily send it back. Service: our waiter was knowledgable, clean, happy to help, attentive. But early in our meal the manager/owner told us that they would need our table by 9:30 because a large party was coming in. To be clear, they weren’t taking over the entire restaurant, just our table. Our reservation was for 7:30 so it wasn’t too big of a deal, but I certainly felt rushed a bit at the end. Ridiculous. The person who took our reservation should have told us this before we made our reservation and if the large party booked after we did, they should have called to let us know. Also, they said they ran out of the red wine we were drinking, but that they would give us a slightly more expensive bottle for the price of our initial bottle. Then when the bill came, they charged us the full cost. Instead of making things right and reducing the price, they gave us some lemon cello shots that no one wanted. Atmosphere: very west village, on the smaller side, dim lighting, some large tables with community seating, busy, seemed to be a very popular spot. Misc: the food was good, but there are a lot of places that serve good food. If management showed a little more concern for their clients it would go a long way for this place.

Went to Aria with a group of girls tonight and will start by saying the food and wine are amazing– five stars at least! BUT the service was two stars at most. The waiter was pushy and dismissive and told us we had to give up the table no less than 5 minutes after we settled the check despite the fact that we all had nearly full glasses of wine in front of us from one of the bottles we bought instead of getting dessert. Loved this place but would never return given the poor service. Should have trusted the other Unilocal reviews!

Seems like such a great place to go on a date but really crowded, kind of loud, and food and drinks were good but not great. Probably one of the better places to go in the area but really gets very crowded and there is a wait, even when it’s not that late!

I’ve been here 3 times now, and I definitely plan on returning soon. My only complaint about Aria would be that the wait staff pushes you to either leave, or to order more and more wine or food. I went here with a big group of friends once, and we gave them plenty of business that night. Our waiter continuously tried to rush us out the door. When we confronted him about it he apologized and said that his manager was telling him to do this. With this said — the food is fantastic and reasonably priced. However, be careful when ordering one of the specials! They don’t advertise the price on those options, and they are usually at least $ 19 for a very small portion. I really love this style of eating — trying small portions of really good food. It’s the perfect place for a date, or a girls night too!

Love this little gem in the west village. I stopped her for brunch on Sunday with my boyfriend and we really enjoyed the food. We started with the beet and goat cheese salad and then each had a main dish. I had the truffle macaroni and cheese. It was a bigger portion that I had anticipated but it was so good that I am happy to have seconds. My bf also tried one of the specials of the day and was really happy with his meal. Definitely a spot we will go back to!

I love this place, Ive been many times with friends and family and the food an service is always good. Tonight however they were absolutely unforgivably rude and racist, I turned up to at 730pm before my friend was there and asked how long it might take to secure a table, they told me there were a few table free and that I could be seated immediately, I said my friend was almost there and if I could leave my name on their reservation list, but they told me they don’t take reservations but not to worry as there will have availability in 10 – 20 mins. When my friend(african american) turned up we went to the host to see how long a table would be and she and the manager told us that it would be at least an hour and a half wait time, and that they had a huge list of people on their reservations list(which they don’t even take!) mind you I stood outside the restaurant whilst I waited for my friend and counted 15 people go in and 10 people come out in that time. How 5 people could constitute an hour and a half wait is beyond me. On top of that the host refused to put my name on the reservation list when I asked her to after she told me it would be an hour and a half wait(because they don’t actually have a reservation list). So I confronted them and told them what had happened and that I had seen only 5 extra people go in over the 20 minuets in the time I had been waiting and that I had been out the front the whole time, they finally told me it would be 15 mins for a table(which we got). I must say that the fact they are so selective(or racist depending on how you look at it) is quite shocking to me. Great place, but they need to work on how they treat people.

Had a great time at Aria. The food is delicious ! I had the lamb chops and the arugula/lobster salad. The dressing wasn’t the best though. For dessert I got the tiramisu which was good but not amazing either. I like the fact that they serve small plates, you can try different things(helps if you’re indecisive like me: p) We went there on a Thursday night and the place was packed! Luckily, we were sitting in the downstairs area(at first I thought we were going into the kitchen when the server told us to follow him(such a weird set up!(you have to go through the bar to go down)) Given that the place is small, I wouldn’t want to be sitting upstairs if ever go back. Last note, our server was friendly and attentive which made our night.

I enjoyed pasta here but my friend didn’t. I ordered fettuccine funghi. My friend had vongole. I preferred mine to hers but she was the opposite. Bread served for appetizer wasn’t that fresh or tasty but it was okay. Pasta was comparatively good when i considered the price. Pastas are only $ 12 and plus great ambience and location. I went here after work for the first time with one of my girlfriends and loved the ambience. I’ve got there around 7pm on a Wednesday and it was pretty packed but we managed to get a seat at the bar. The service was a little interesting because we didn’t know who exactly our waiter was, we were asked for our order from about 3 different gentleman, which caused us to feel a bit rushed. Other than that, the wine was great and I recommend the mushroom bruschetta to start.

Ugh the pasta is fantastic. 12 dollars for linguine with clams in a cool, low key west village classic venue is awesome. There’s not much else to say about it other than to grab a few friends and head down to try it out. Note that on weekends it gets super packed because, duh, it’s a wine bar in west village. I try to go during the slower periods(earlier on weekends and during the week).

Finally made it to Aria this weekend and had a wonderful time. I’d walked past this adorable wine bar more times than I could count but had never mustered the courage to brave the crowd. So, word to the wise, come early or on a week night because this little place gets packed. Once inside, Aria is the archetypal west village wine bar; The ambiance is romantic, rustic, and cozy and everyone is gloriously put together. I can’t vouch for the food,(though it looked spectacular), but the wine selection is solid and the bartenders are kind. Will be back!

One of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. Met a friend for drinks on a Friday evening and we ordered a few appetizers to pick on while we enjoyed our drinks. After about an hour the waiter was clearly upset we weren’t ordering more food, took our plates away without asking after we stopped him from doing so once before and were basically pushed out the door. Will never come back here for drinks or food.

3.5÷5 for me here We popped in here around 7:45/8 on a Tuesday night and found this place very lively. Be aware that between 7−10pm, you are required to order food whether you sit at a table or the bar, so come prepared to eat. We started with the burrata tomatoes(fresh and excellent), the tuna crudo(I have had better and could have done without this), the fettucine with mushrooms and truffle oil(al dente and not overpowered by truffle but flavorful) and the pork chop(moist and accompanied with some veggies but overall big portion). If you come in a group of 2, I would suggest 3 total dishes to share rather than 4 as this became too much. Overall, the atmosphere was inviting, food was good, and service was a bit pushy but ok otherwise(reason why I dropped it .5 star). For a couple of cocktails each and after tax and tip, it came out to about $ 75/person which I thought was pricey but we did order a good amount of items. I will most likely be back. Buon appetito.

For fresh mozzarella, definitely come here. For ambiance and service, skip it and find another Italian restaurant. My friend and I came here on a Tuesday night around 7pm. I was late, and since they don’t sit until all parties are present, my friend waited for me at the bar. I walked up to the 2 hostesses at the front and informed them that we wanted a table for 2. The one who responded told me to wait at the bar … Even though I saw a vacant(but not cleaned) table right next to her. Fine, I thought, she’ll find us and let us know. False. The hostess, immediately after our exchange, seated another party of 2. This would have been fine if only they hadn’t come after I came… So my friend and I obviously settled for the bar. Which honestly, is the worst place to sit. You can sit behind the bar, and while it seems like a good idea, it gets chaotic pretty quick. There’s a communal table in front of the bar, and the bartenders are working and walking behind you if you are seated behind the bar. Main point to take away from this: no one wins at this restaurant. The service was not good. I had to wave and yell at the waiter/bartender until I got his attention. I’m not sure if he makes all customers do this, but my friend and I had to circle what we wanted on the menu. The menu was clearly not meant to be written on… Granted, it was just a sheet of paper, but still — no designated area to write on. There’s barely any space to move and the volume is so loud, you really have to yell to talk. So is there a downstairs? Because that’s the only way that I’d ever come back. Oh, the food. Yeah, that was good. I had Mozzarella Pomodoro(Basilico buffalo mozzarella, heirloom tomatoes, and fresh basil), Rigatoni E Gamberi(spicy grilled shrimp pasta), and a side of Roasted Brussel Sprouts. I’m not going to lie — it was delicious. But ugh that service really doesn’t make me want to go back anytime soon. Cailin’s Recommendations: — Mozzarella Pomodoro: $ 10 — Rigatoni E Gamberi: $ 12 — Roasted Brussel Sprouts $ 6

Food: 4 Service: 4 Ambiance: Hmmm… 3 Everything on the menu sounded so good! We ordered the: –Aragosta E Avocado(lobster and avocado salad): Tasty. –Crostini di Polpo(octopus): My friend liked this a lot. –Polenta: Not bad, but not amazing. –Complimentary bread w/olive oil: Good. Plus it comes with a few seeded olives. I liked the trendy vibe here, the music, and the dim lighting. But it got SO cramped and noisy.(It was like that last time we swung by on another Thurs. night, too, but we didn’t stay that time due to the long wait.) There are a few standalone tables, but you’ll most likely find yourself at a communal table, which I am not a fan of. If I ever return, it will be during lunch, when I expect it’s slower and less hectic. Only one BR(single-stall), so there may be a wait.

Aria is my «go to» spot in the west village. It’s a tapas like style italian spot – you can share every dish if you choose. Get the burrata to start and the prosecco rose to enhance your dinner. Oh and I never eat lentils, but the lentils appetizer is possibly my favorite dish at Aria(but then again, everything is good). Eating those lentils inspired me to try to make my own at home.

You know those Italian people who are so picky about where they eat, what kind of tomatoes are in the gravy, where the mushrooms come from, if there is enough salt, if the pasta is homemade — well I’m one of them. I only like my own recipes or Nona’s and that’s just the way it is. Or so I thought… Came to Aria yesterday completely unplanned and what a surprise! A quaint little Italian restaurant with great prices, great people, great food and great wine. There are cute lights outside to make for a great atmosphere and the set up makes you feel like you are in an Italian family kitchen. We tried the Costicine D’agnello(lamb chops) and Fettuccine Ai Funghi(pasta with mushrooms and truffle oil). Both were absolutely delicious. Add a bottle of Montepulciano D’abruzzo and you are set. I wish I had a bigger stomach, I would have loved to try everything on the menu, I guess that means I will just have to come back!

I really wanted to love this place. I was doing a post on west village food/wine and thought this would be such a winner. The atmosphere is so magical. I had to really lower my expectations to get behind the wine. They let me try three.(Yes, very generous!) I went ahead and chose the Barbara to not be difficult. I felt rushed. But it seemed the least oxidized of the three. I sent the boar pasta dish back. First, it came in less than 2 minutes after I ordered it. Too fast. And ultimately, not my thing. Again, rushed. I got the fungi pasta instead. It was over salted. Sigh. Go here If you want an easy, fun atmosphere but don’t have too high of expectations about the food or wine or service.

I would have given another star had the service not been so poor. I specially called and reserved space downstairs and told them if they could not accommodate me I would go somewhere else. Downstairs is much more intimate and upstairs is loud and crowded. Low and behold I was seated upstairs. The food here was good and after my initial annoyance I was pleased, but I was very specific and unfortunately they need better hostesses.

I loved this place. It’s cramped, it’s crowded, but man the atmosphere and the food are exceptional. Also, it’s pretty dang affordable for a West Village wine bar. I think the menu changes often, but here goes anyway: we got the Gnocchi, the Italian sausage and [pasta name], the burata salad, the cauliflower, and the Brussels sprouts. Also, they supply bread. I love the Italian way of calling things a salad: the burata salad is a salad because it has tomato, apparently. Other than that it’s prosciutto and buffalo mozzarella. For the uncultured, prosciutto is thinly sliced ham. So it’s meat and cheese and tomato. But of course, it’s wonderful. I loved the cheese. The roasted cauliflower and Brussels sprouts were similarly delicious. Nice and crisp, and flavored with olive oil and garlic, I believe. A worthy choice for sides. I didn’t like the gnocchi as much as the Italian sausage dish, but again, both were exceptional. The sizes of the plates were perfect for two people. I loved the mix of flavors. It was a panoply of sweet, savory, and tart influences. The atmosphere makes this place wonderful. It was a long wait to get a table here, but it was so worth it. The décor is interesting – a mix of west village vintage and trendy Manhattan, I felt. The lighting is dark and intimate. The people are beautiful and well dressed. The space is a little tight – I sat at a corner and kept getting bumped, but the experience was so new and interesting, I didn’t much care. Highly recommend for an intimate dinner. Get a reservation if you can.

Italian tapas place in the West Village. We had ordered a bunch of small plates. The lamb chops and the calamari really stood out. Among the pasta, I had the pappardelle with wild boar meat — excellent. The meat was cooked tender. The panna cotta was also quite good. As good as the food was, service was a little weird. The servers seemed to be all in extreme hurry and would barely pause if we had questions.

Absolutely loved this place. I was here for a friend’s bachelorette dinner and everything was really enjoyable. We arrived around 6:30 and it began to quickly fill up. It is a small place so it can be somewhat cramped, but still maintains a cozy atmosphere. We all decided to split a few ciccetti consisting of the grilled eggplant and goat cheese, spare ribs, and the gorgonzola stuffed dates(absolutely heavenly and by far my favorite dish). As more of a main dish, I ordered the mac & cheese with black truffle carpaccio. It was very cheesy and had a delicious crust of melted cheese on top. The truffles were not overpowering which was really nice, as everywhere seems to be going on a truffle craze lately. Service was extremely attentive,(but not in an annoying way) and the manager seemed to always be nearby checking on tables. The whole menu has items that can please pickier eaters to those who have a more diverse palate. Prices were also decent for NYC and I definitely left feeling full. My only complaint is that everything came out a little too quickly. We didn’t feel rushed, however it would have been nice to have more time in between courses to really enjoy and take everything in.

This little restaurant is amazing! We came here once and I am already dying to come back! It is a perfect place to order a bunch of various little plates so you can try a little bit of everything which is my favorite part. Each dish is priced $ 10-$ 17 which is great pricing for the city. They have an extensive array of wines and delicious cocktail drinks. We arrived at 7PM and were seated right away, after that time anyone coming in had a wait. Service was wonderful and you can see(the owner or manager? I assume it was) was really making sure everything was properly taken care of and all customers were satisfied. I already am ready to come back!

I loved this place from the first second! A lively bar with chill atmosphere and dim light! In the middle of the space; a big, rustic wooden table that could seat a party, or make strangers talk! The best part is that the food makes this place even better! I am not spoiled with good Italian food or tapas, as I come from a small city with limits to the category, but my oh my! How great to taste a smashing pasta dish that is just big enough to please your stomach and elegant enough to effortlessly thrill your tastebuds. The meny consists of smaller dishes: Italian and tapas: pasta, meat, a wide range of vegetarian dishes, fish and pizza. I am not a typical pasta person, but I had a go, and I’m so happy I did! Never have cannelloni with tomato sause tasted better! Yum! So good! My friend ate an avocado salad and we were both amazed by it! The meny offers something for everyone. Whatever you like you find it here, or whatever you don’t like, you will like it here! I would bring a date to Aria, chill out with friends, start my weekend here. Sit down by the bar, and just relax with some great food and wine! That is the top of happiness!

This place was extremely busy on a Saturday night. Even with reservations, we waited a while for our table. Not a lot of space in between tables or the seats at the tables. The waiter was extremely lazy. Instead of taking our orders, he gave us a menu and told us to circle what we wanted to order. WHATKINDOFSERVICEISTHAT? He asked us to do that both for our appetizers and our entrees. What’s the point of even having a waiter. The beet salad was good. Lobster salad was good, had generous amounts of lobster on there. Truffle mac and cheese was good although they barely shaved any truffle on there. Gorgonzola stuffed dates was good. The pasta portions are small but it is considered a tapas restaurant after all. Not sure why everyone on Unilocal is raving about the Lobster ravioli. I ordered it but I didn’t even taste any lobster in there. I’ve had better lobster ravioli elsewhere. They also serve coffee and cappuccino in metal mugs, considering the beverage is extremely hot, my friends could barely pick up the cup to drink out of it.

Amazing food and fun vibe. We got the burrata prosciutto special and goat cheese and beet salad to start-loved both, then the ricotta asparagus ravioli and the orichetti with sausage and garlic and broccoli – which were both phenomenal, then the filet special which my husband loved but I didn’t care for(it had foi gras and it’s just not my thing). I’d recommend this place for a fun night out!!!
