Arthur is an artist. I can’t even explain how talented and patient this man is when it comes to your hair.
I had a reddish brown hair and I wanted to get it dyed medium/​dark brown and do a blonde balayage. My hair was already really damaged from being overprocessed.
It was the most intricate transition I have ever witnessed. I got there for my appointment at 5 PM. I left the salon at midnight. Arthur worked on my hair for SEVEN hours, incredibly patient, not complaining once. And the result is absolutely breathtaking.
I would recommend this place to ANYONE. If you’re looking to get your hair colored/​cut at a reasonable price by an experienced professional, this is the place to go. He has 18+ years of experience and he loves what he does.

Arthur is simply the best! He takes his time in hair consultation, assessing the best type of color/​style for you. For myself, he recommended the ombré-​balayage, especially since I have dark hair and bleaching too much of my hair can be damaging. I wanted a professional look since I’m starting my new job this week, but still wanted a platinum color. He showed me the color chart and said he can mix platinum with a more natural color so it’s less metallic. During the whole process, Arthur was extremely professional, attentive to small details. He’s very passionate about his craft; definitely a perfectionist! He took one hour just teasing my hair for the ombré effect. You can tell he loves what he does! He washed and conditioned my hair in between treatment. The whole process took about six hours. I felt bad because it was so late already, wayyy after closing time. He also trimmed my hair and blew dry at no additional charge. I will definitely be coming back and I recommend him to everyone!!!

Also, Arthur listens. He gets it. I left feeling and looking great. Every other time I’ve ever left a salon I look forward to the next day when I can style my hair myself… but not today. I felt like myself, just snazzier.

One of the best haircuts I’ve ever gotten, if not the best. I’ve never experienced someone put so much attention to detail to my haircut than Arthur.
Knowing exactly what I want from a haircut is so hard for me, but Arthur took extra time out of his day to explain to me my (best) options based on the size/​shape of my head, as well as things like the breaking point of my hair. When I asked if he was going to layer the top of my hair (the one thing about hair I thought I knew about), Arthur was already prepared for a much more technical layering than I had ever seen. It was a different type of layering scissor that had special blades to get a finer layering than others.
Arthur is an extremely nice person, but it’s his patience that sets him apart from the rest. If he can deal with my ignorance about my hair and deliver one of my best haircuts, then you should be smooth sailing in his hands.
I found my new place to get my haircut (about time).

First off I spent 2 weeks « Unilocaling» trying to find the best salon to fix the mess I had on my head.
I called Arthur and asked to come in for a consultation. I get off work late but he is conveniently open late. He was very friendly and took his time examining my hair and trying to understand what I wanted because I really didn’t know. I made an appointment a couple days later. And do Not regret it at all.
He is very quiet (which was totally cool because I completely lost my voice the night before) he is very detailed with his work. You can tell he LOVES. What he does and takes his time to perfect it. I am more than impressed and more than satisfied with the work he did on my hair. A+++ if there were 10 stars is give it. Also not to mention his prices are great !!! I am definitely coming back even if it’s just for a cut or blow dry!

Arthur is amazing, super diligent, talented, painstakingly detailed with his haircuts. I knew what I wanted (a short crop, cut by scissors, not buzzer) and walked out completely satisfied. He’s professional and this place is really reasonable too. Highly highly recommended!

Purchased the Unilocal $ 35 for $ 50 value coupon on May 6 & arranged a hair appointment for May 8, so no long crazy wait! I had my hair cut off from halfway down my back to a long bob at my shoulder/​collar bone.
I absolutely LOVE the result and am so happy to find a salon I can trust in the city (I’ve lived here over 4 years but always waited until I went home to my city to visit my old hair stylist). For reference I have really thick hair that’s wavy/​curly and has a tendency to be frizzy.
The salon is small, just 2 seats, but nicely decorated and well kept with a bathroom as well.
Arthur is not super chatty (which I GREATLY appreciate!) but he listened to what I wanted, looked at the pics I brought as examples and communicated well through the entire process (e.g. I’m going to cut some layers here, now I’m going to thin the hair at the back etc). He is very meticulous as well, from wash to cut to dry. I felt confident in his skills through the entire process & was not worried at all.
He also said that the coupon included a quick blow dry but at the end of it, I felt like he gave me a proper full on blow out! :) The wash, cut and dry only took about an hour and I am SO happy with how it turned out, especially with the super affordable prices. Definitely coming back again!

Arthur mixed a custom colour for me and fit me in even though I was an hour late. He is so detailed and made sure every hair was saturated… and he told what he was doing through the colour and cut. I have found my NYC salon!!!

I wish I could give extra stars because I am so happy with my hair. Arthur was so Nice and you can truly feel his passion for creating beautiful hair! The price was amazing. I just moved to NYC and They have made a client for life. Also, he did not load my hair with tons of products when he blew it out. My hair feels and looks natural but still looks styled and well-​kept.

When I found Arthur & D online, I was surprised that this place seems to be affordable yet has so many good reviews from other Unilocal reviewers. So I decided to take a chance and schedule for a balayage treatment. I came in wanting to get rose gold balayage on my heavily color treated hair and was not disappointed. Arthur was very attentive to all my concerns while being precise and careful with every step. Even when I accidentally messed up the foil placements, the final result still looks amazing. And I only paid a little more than $ 100. I am very happy and will come back!

I came in for a balayage treatment and I was a little skeptical at how low the price was. However, the amount of detail, care, quality, and effort he put into the process truly set a new standard for hairdressers.

I have been to Arthur & D Hair Salon a few times to get my hair blown out. Since I am a girl with long, thick, curly hair, and extremely particular on how I like it to look once its blow dried. Arthur did an AMAZING job, seriously, one of the best blow outs I have ever gotten! Numerous people even complemented me on how awesome my hair looked. He is not only fantastic at blow drying hair, but he also is phenomenal at cutting hair too! My boyfriend has gotten his hair cut there numerous times since Arthur opened and I’ve recently gotten mine cut & colored as well, it always turns out amazing! My hair color is perfectly blonde and my hair cut is exactly what I had wanted! I could not recommend this salon more!

I had a groupon for this salon and took a chance. Arthur is a genius! He is a true master of his craft. The technique he uses and his equipment is so impressive. I have never had a haircut like this!

Phenomenal! Andrew is very talented and cares about his customers. Like the others have said, he really knows his stuff when it comes to coloring. He did balayage on my very long hair for $ 90 – which is crazy given the amount of detail and effort that he put into it. If you are getting coloring, I would recommend setting aside a lot of time for your appointment. He is very thorough and wants you to walk you with the best result.
While I got only a very simple haircut, he’s the only stylist who’s gotten my super fine hair to look fuller rather than thinner.
TLDR; amazing work, very affordable relative to NY prices, incredibly diligent and professional.

Go here, people. I walked in here by chance yesterday, as I live around the corner. Needed a platinum blonde root touch up. Arthur was finishing up with a customer, and could take me in immediately — score! Anyhow:
Best. Friggin’. Roots job. Ever.
If you’re platinum blonde, you know how annoying that maintenance is, and how delicate the balance: roots always end up slightly yellow, your scalp is dipped in hellsauce for forty minutes, your brain is burning, you ponder once more deep philosophical questions about what beauty means to you. Arthur did a quick color match analysis of my roots to see what level of bleach is best (maximum, sadly), then worked FAST on the application in large chunks of hair. It was applied evenly and quickly, and the stuff he uses is great — for the first time I actually ended up with platinum blonde roots. Not golden retriever blonde, not ash sunrise blonde — I’m talking that lovely MF cocaine blonde. I would recommend Danaerys Targaryan come and get herself sorted here. Dude has over 10 years experience, and it shows. Salon is tiny, clean and super cute.
Pricing is super reasonable for us working class plebs — $ 50 for a root touch up, $ 30 for a very cool blow out.
