This place is a rat hole Rodents run free as do the cockroaches. A far cry from when I used to work there in 1985 – 1992.

This doesn’t look like the CLEANEST bakery ever, but they had galakatbureko for $ 1.95 and it was ginormous. So yeah. I’d probably go to Leli’s if I wanted to impress someone with baked goods.

Go during Christmas and get the giant bread man shaped like Santa, you’ll see them in the windows as you walk by on 3oth, coolest christmas party gift ever and they’re only $ 7.oo! Nice staff, but buy at start of day for cookies or cannolis, otherwise you may get a bit of the stale treatment, which given their time frame for bake and sale, makes sense. Nice staff, try the cupcakes, 2^nd row, 3^rd in. Trust ME on this one! ps: CASH only*

This place looks from the outside a real old school Italian bakery, inside they have cookies but where is the cannolis? I saw some reviews that said they had them? Maybe I just needed to ask. I felt bad walking out and wanted something sweet. I got a apple turnover, it was pretty good fresh and flaky.

This place truly breaks my heart. As a born and raised Astoria Greek this bakery USE TO BE the ultimate experience from amazing bread to great cookies that my family and I always shopped from. In the past few years I’ve tried to come back with the hopes of some improvement for nostalgia’s sake but sadly nothing.
*Purchased a loaf of whole wheat bread and had it sliced, once I got home found green mold INSIDE of the loaf.

*Purchased Italian triangle cookies with white frosting only to find hairs attached to the bottom of each of them
*Purchased Olive loaf that was so stale I couldn’t cut it with a knife.
3 separate purchases over the past 2 years and each one worse then the other. So sad to see a staple of my youth fall so low. I don’t recommend even walking by let alone into this place at this point. SHAME ON WHOEVER IS DOING THE BAKING, you had a 5 star bakery with a superior reputation for over 20 years and you carelessly destroyed it!

Disgusting, old (like at least a week), stale baked goods sold by an occasionally pleassnt woman in an old dirty building. Tried it twice. Never again.

The first time I came in here I got some cannolis. They were perfect! Fresh crispy shells, wonderful creamy filling. I guess I got lucky that time because I came back to get some more the next day and they were soggy and sad… probably because they were the same batch from the day before.
If you want a good cannoli, they’re not supposed to fill them until you order them, but I have yet to find a bakery here that does that.
I also tried a french baguette from this place and it seemed like it was a few days old too :(

So They used to sell this thing called Cassettelle. They don’t any more. Why? because it tastes good and they want to sell all their other stuff. It’s the best dessert they have. They have Baklava with raisins in it. It’s not bad. Everything tastes like the room temperature bakery itself. It’s not that great– it’s nothing to marvel over.

This place is very run of the mill. I’ve only gone once. I ordered the caneloni and a Tiramisu. These were below average. Not recommended. Buy a decent cup of coffee with your money instead. Or a doughnut for that matter.

seriously, everything in this place is like 2 days old+.
i’m always lured in here by the cakes in the windows, and every time i’m disappointed. it’s quantity over quality here for SURE.

I am incredibly disappointed by this place.
Upon entering the premises, you are stared down by an Asian employee (or owner) standing behind the counter. She eyes your every move and sometimes, she even moved with me! She’s either desperate for me to buy something or afraid I am going to conjure some super power to steal cookies from the glass counter.
I used to come to this place many times but yesterday, was the last time. I have fond memories of this bakery. They used to make amazing cheese pies, cookies, brownies, and the most important, Olive bread. Now, everything is screwed over.
This place used to be owned by an Italian female and she always made sure everything was fresh. She was sweet and greeted me upon entering the bakery. You could smell the fresh bread from 6 blocks away. Now, all I see are signs on the windows and outside stating what the bakery offers for outrages prices. The bakery is no longer owned by the sweet Italian female. It is owned by an Asian female with a Mexican baker.
When I went to Astoria Bakery, I bought a loaf of Greek bread and a loaf of olive bread. The Greek bread did not have any taste to it and as I removed a slice from the bag, the dough flattened between my fingers. I took another slice with caution and it was a bit more firm than mushy. I gave up on the Greek bread. I cut the olive loaf into slices with excitement, thinking of all the olives in the bread. My excitement died down. There weren’t any olives in the loaf… as a matter of fact, I think the bread was baked with olive juice or something because the internal part of the bread was dark but not olives were visible. The taste of the bread was not even strong nor tasted like olives… wtf is going on here I thought…
Their bread is TOTALLY NOT WORTH IT!
Other observations, their coffee wasn’t fresh and I went around 1 pm. The cookies were a bit stale and I ordered my favorite ones (cookie sandwich with jam and one side dipped into chocolate and sprinkles).
If you are thirsty, do not stop in for a beverage, they are overpriced.
Would I purchase anything from this place again? Nope.

I can’t speak for all the baked goods but I’m giving this place 4 stars because they have a great selection of baklava — chocolate, cinnamon, raisin (gross to me!), pistachio. You can get a huge triangle of fresh, delicious, stunningly sweet baklava for $ 1.75. The spanakopita (flaky greek pasty filled with spinach and feta) is not bad either. I wasn’t so into the spinach pie though — there’s too much crust and I think its made with egg, it was really heavy and greasy.

I bought half a dozen eclairs from here for dessert Easter Sunday and the cream inside was spoiled. When I went the next day to return them the woman at the counter started popping the tops off of them and said «well maybe only some of them are bad». I asked for my money back after she only offered me replacement pastries. Although she complied she was not apologetic at all. With all the great bakeries in Astoria I will NOT be returning here.

Man, the croissants here are terrible. They’re these giant, vaguely cheesy-​tasting pillows of dough. Take them for what they are and maybe they’re okay, but don’t mistake them for those things you might get in Paris for your petit dejeuner.
That said, the bread can be really good, particularly the semolina loaves. I’ve also had tasty cookies here. I’m just sad because I had hoped that this place could be the right destination on the weekends for decent breakfast pastries, and it is just not.

I’ve only tried a couple of their semolina loaves and rolls, and I’m hooked. I could just eat those with some seasoned olive oil all day. Haven’t tried their other breads yet, but they look equally good.

They lure you in with all of that fresh bread sitting in the window. I walk by and all I can think is how badly I want to nosh on some crusty italian bread or some soft greek bread.
The closer you can get in after baking time, the better the bread is. I’ve had some bread where the crust is a little stiffer than it should be. You know, where the crust extends into the bread indicating that this loaf might have been yesterday’s– but if you hit it right and get a good fresh loaf– the bread is really top notch.
Also, they will cut the bread for you if you ask. I’m always in awe of watching the loaf of bread go through one of those things. Don’t ask me why, I’m a sucker for these sort of technologies that you know are there but are hidden from plain sight.
They also have good cookies and delicious Marzipan in the shape of fruit. but just note, don’t get too lured in by the sweets. it’s cash only.
