This store is more like a museum experience that is not to be missed. I can’t walk by without going in for a look.

I was beyond excited to find this gallery during my trip in nyc. It was beautiful. I bought a piece of amber with an insect inside of it. I will be back next time I visit!

Stopped in here on a whim and am so glad I did since this place is amazing. There are so many things to look at(and purchase if you’re up for it). I loved the gems near the cash register. They list what benefits each gem provides. It was very interesting.

Wonderful to look at but you’d be a fool to spend money here. The mark up on items is insane. A $ 10 gift store piece sells for $ 100 here. And I’m pretty sure that I saw the exact same specimens for sale at the local street fair, as if they bought it from the vendor for resale in their store. If not, then they are both getting them from the same supplier; guess who has a higher price tag? And just a heads up, those pretty blue butterflies are critically endangered in the wild because of the trade in their specimens, the same can be said for a lot of their animal pieces. It’s truly unethical to buy or sell these, like the ivory trade.

This place is absolutely phenomenal. Any lover of stones, fossils and minerals should make this a destination. They have extremely beautiful specimens and a great, knowledgeable staff. I didn’t want to leave and learned about many new stones I’ve never heard of. I draw inspiration from stones and natural phenomena for my paintings and this place fills me with inspiration. I’m definitely going back when I can!

Astro Gallery of Gems lives up to its word — absolutely incredible shop that really should quantify itself as a museum! Except this place is even better because you can BUY what you see!!! They have a wide range of geods, crystals, minerals & gem-quality stones & even these range from desktop to foyer to sparklie adornments… common to ultra-rare, coming from all over the world… can I gush any more here? Prices were equally outstanding & in my mind, reasonable for what you’re getting in return. Something for everyone & at all pricepoints, for the serious collector as well as someone just getting started… or if your preference runs towards the bauble, they had necklaces, earrings, rings & everything in between Walked out of there completely impressed & in awe. You will too!

Wowza! What a fun place to look around. If I were a millionaire I would even shop here. An amazing collection of gemstones and fossils. Some large and some small. My favorite were the gem stone bonsai trees!

I could hang out in this store for years. While extremely pricey — the presentation of their crystals, gems and fossils is phenomenal. What makes it even more of a great experience is the staff itself — seasonal paleontologists, interesting backgrounds — this is a store where talking to the staff is equally as important as browsing. What i love about this store — for the price point they don’t push you at all. They let you come in and admire their world. They know you’ll be hooked and come back.

I like this place, it’s a lovely shop and they have a good variety of crystals. The only thing I did not like is how they watched me like a hawk as though I were going to steal something, which I would never do. It’s really uncomfortable. Also I got the feeling that they actually don’t know much about the crystals, I feel(I could be wrong) they are just selling the gems for the luxury of them.

Like a museum, but a store where you can purchase some awesome gems, fossils, and jewelry. And the salespeople are friendly and not pushy. Go just to look – no one will bother you!

I’ve popped into this place a few times over the years to check out the rocks.(Rocks? Really? that sounds so disrespectful to what you’ll find in here!) The earth creates some stunning, beautiful, unreal, and magical pieces of art, lots of it forming in caves and other places most people would never even come close to seeing without explorers working hard to dig and excavate for. There are so many gorgeous things I would love to frame and put on my walls to display as art in my home but the price tags you will not find close to the ground. Astro Gallery is truly a magical place and I thank them for letting the public drop in any time.

My girlfriend and I visited late in the day near closing. Edgar urged us to check out downstairs and we’re glad we did. This gallery has it all, from points costing $ 10 to incredible crystals in the $ 10s of thousands. Some of the most beautiful and mystifying natural crystals I’ve seen. Stones with fossils and also petrified trees. This is a wonderful place to check out if you are into Earth. Blessings of Star and Stone ~

The Basics: Subway: 33 Street Open Mon-Wed, Fri, Sun 10am-7pm; Thu 10am-8pm; Sat 11am-6pm (212) 889‑9000 Anyone who appreciates the rare and unusual MUST stop in. Outside the Diamond District nothing will be as impressive for gems, stones, nor will you be transported in time any other way so swiftly. It’s amazing!

The Astro Gallery is truly an amazing place. It came as a total surprise to me to find a rock store in the middle of Manhattan, and little unsuspecting geologist that I am, I couldn’t be happier to have found it. It also has a fantastic lower level and very unique and stunning jewelry. The lower level is a museum, essentially. You can buy the pieces, and they’re practically untouchable price-wise, but are definitely worth it if you can appreciate the majesty of a 6″ flawless watermelon tourmaline crystal or a scolecite puff the size of a basketball. It’s so cool just to look and marvel at the wonderful things nature has produced. They have a ton of rarer species of minerals, and all are top gem quality. They’ve also got HUGE specimens. By huge, I mean CARSIZED quartz clusters, 8 foot tall amethyst cathedrals and a calcite sphere at least 4′ in diameter. It’s insane that these things even exist! On the street level, the gallery is full of smaller cabinet-sized and smaller specimens, tumbles, and rough that can be purchased by the pound. The jewelry available is in mostly sterling silver but they do have a variety of finer gold pieces in the back. All in all, the Astro Gallery is a must see. No place can even compare!(Well, aside from the Museum of Natural History!)
