Dr. A, Jocelyn, and Margherita are amazing! They all treated me wonderfully and were sensitive to my anxiety and needs. I have never had better dental care and service in my life. I definitely recommend her if you are looking for a great dentist in NYC! Thank you Dr. A!!!

This is by far the best dentist or even medical practitioner I have met.
I had to have an emergency wisdom removal and went to another dentist office near work which over charged and did a terrible job, resulting in issues and complications. I was reluctant to find another doctor and spend more money (I do not have dental insurance!) but when I finally caved due to serious tooth pain I looked on zocdoc and found Dr. Akhavan who fit me in asap.
Right away she knew the issue and was able to fix it with almost no pain. Because it took a few days to repair the gums she even came into the office on a weekend to do needed work, and also emailing me in the evening to check on how I was feeling.
In addition, the office is so pleasant, with warm staff and receptionist, and they gave me a really fair and good price– definitely below what I should have paid.
Dr Akhavan is such a intelligent, professional and kind person I almost look forward to going to the dentist now. She really cares about her patients and that’s why people have followed her to her new office on Fifth avenue.

I have been a patient of Dr. Akhavan since 2009 and she is, by far, my preferred health care provider.
Shortly after I came to NYC I went to a different dentist who identified 4 cavities that needed attention. Not having had many issues in the past I was a bit surprised to learn of these many cavities without experiencing any discomfort so I went looking for a second opinion which is how I came across Dr. Akhavan while she was at her previous location at 57^th street.
During the first visit she did find only one spot that perhaps could have needed attention and was not at all concerned about the other three spots. Rather than immediately scheduling a filling she recommended that we simply watch it to see how it developed. As it turns out, that spot has yet to become a cavity and she continues to keep an eye on it many years later.
Interpersonally you can immediately tell that she is a particularly caring dentist and takes her time to explain everything and ensure proper understanding. She is very gentle and conservative in her approach. Dr. Akhavan makes sure that you are satisfied and will have you come back as many times as needed until the issue is resolved and you are happy with the outcome.
Undoubtedly, as long as I live in the metro area I will continue to go to see Dr. Akhavan for my dental needs as I have the certainty that she has my best interests in mind. I cannot recommend her highly enough and you can find her at her new location at 8 Gramercy Park S.

I am so excited that Dr. Akhavan has her own practice now. Having to put up with the pushy, incompetent front desk at Dr. Sachar’s practice (more on this in another review!) in order to see her had gotten to be almost more than I could take. Dr. Akhavan does very gentle but thorough cleanings (yes, she does the cleanings herself!) and takes the time to explain procedures and to give advice. So far, she’s done a perfect-​fit mouthguard for me, three fillings, some cosmetic work on my rabbit teeth, a deep cleaning (the importance of flossing cannot be exaggerated!), and one of those fill-​in procedures to cover up sensitive, exposed tooth from receding gums.
I’ve had bad experiences with dentists who push procedures on you like used car salesmen. Those who aren’t pushy can be the unpleasant opposite extreme: blasé or uninterested; after the hygienist cleans your teeth, the actual dentist takes only the most cursory glance at x-​rays and your actual teeth. Dr. Akhavan has been right on the ball for me – thorough and effective. She seems to care genuinely about her patients. I highly recommend her!

Dr. Akhavan is an amazing doctor. She is very competent and confident, she takes time to explain procedures in a simple way and listens. Her work is excellent! She is also a caring and kind person and I felt very comfortable on her chair. I highly recommend her.
