Basics Plus

I’ll add to the chorus of bad customer service and lousy attitude. I selected a cheap, ($ 2.99) keychain and the cashier went to the rack to «check the price». She rang it up for $ 3.99. I said that’s a mistake, there’s another one on the rack, let’s take a look. Sure enough. she had removed the last one and pulled the price off that hanger. Wow! You’re going to rob me for a buck to my face? Not happening and I walked out.
And while I’m here they used to carry the CO2 canisters for the soda machine I have. The check person took my empties grabbed 2 new ones and proceeded to ring me up. On a lark, I picked them up. 1 weighed ½ of the other! I made the salesperson replace it, and then checked them both. Sheesh. And to top it off as I was going out the door I saw the person add the ½ canister back to the basket of «full» bottles. Glad there’s lot’s of other places to get those canisters now.
Really, there’s plenty of alternatives. Don’t give a place like this your money.

I went to get 2 door keys and a mailbox key duplicated. I wanted one set of all three keys and one set without the mailbox key. A young woman with long dark hair waited on me. She took from 20 – 30 minutes to make the keys and what she did was incorrect. As soon as I saw it, I knew there was a mistake and asked her to show me all the keys and I would tell her how it was supposed to be. She TOLD ME that she did exactly what I told her to and refused to put all the keys on the counter so I could show her the mistake. It was very upsetting to have someone insist that I (the customer) was wrong and refuse to show me the keys. How was she to know what I wanted better than me? There was no manager or other employee in the store. Then when I got home with the original keys I could not get the door open. I had to get the handyman to come up and use some lubricant to unlock the door. There was nothing wrong with them before. What could she have done to the originals??? I am a regular customer but would walk over to Warsaw in a heartbeat if I saw her in the store.

I used to shop here quite often until yesterday when I was followed in by a creep yesterday looking to prey on women. He followed me around the store even after I asked the male employee to kick him out. He made the female employee uncomfortable as well by starting at her and continuing to follow me around. He was allowed to stay even after asking for a radio which they don’t sell! The man said he would ask him to leave in another five! What?! He was a terrifying person and everyone in the store felt this bad energy. I had to put back $ 100 worth of products because the man working was to scared to ask a psychopath to leave the store so the customers could shop in peace. This place used to have a good staff. Unsure what happened this time around. I left before the crazy person left and I hope nothing else happened because the cops should have been notified but this employee was to scared to do anything. I confronted the creep on my way out and he just kept staring. Here is an idea. Don’t hire a pussy. Hire a real man or security if your store employee can’t handle creeps who make the experience terrifying. Ask the girl working. She will say the same. It happened at 5pm 2÷24÷2015

Closed early when I needed them. If you’re open til 10, don’t close at 9:45 because you feel like it.

It’s like Bed, Bath and Beyond but smaller, quicker, less crowded and easier to navigate, and there are a bunch of them around the city. Broke your French press? Come to Basics Plus! Wandering the city after dinner and see a store open late-​night and realize you need basic kitchenware? Come to Basics Plus! I want to make this into a list of three but I can’t. Just come to Basics Plus.

Good selection. However everything was overpriced owners are super nice though and if you just need to grab a few things in the neighborhood it’s fine.

This place is like my supply closet. They have EVERYTHING I need, whether I’m I need a quick housewarming or birthday gift, or I need to fix a clogged sink or paint my ceiling or get a key made. How they fit it all in without the place feeling cluttered is a mystery to me. Lovely staffers (particularly love Genevieve and Paco and loved the old manager Jared — miss him!) and good quality items. Also, they’re open until 10PM, which is great.
My friends are always saying how jealous they that I live so close to this store.
The prices are on the high side, but I think of it as a convenience tax.

This one is close to where I work so I went here today looking to see if they carry CO2 cartridges for a soda maker I have at home. Alas, they don’t carry them. Still, sometimes you don’t feel like trekking across town to Macy’s or over to Bed Bath & Beyond so Basics Plus is a decent alternative to pick up a few things for your place. There seems to be a bunch of them around the city. This store is loaded with all types of apartment essentials, housewares, and hardware. Candles, lighting, kitchen products, bathroom products, organization products, fire alarms, dishware, cooking and cleaning supplies — you name it and this place probably has it. You can even order online.
This place is kind of like a mini Bed Bath & Beyond minus the crowds. Friendly staff that helped me out when I had some questions.
Can be a bit pricey on some products but worth the convenience. This location is a bit narrow but each aisle is jam packed with merchandise from floor to ceiling. Clean and organized.

It makes me sad to see bad reviews regarding the customer service here as I found these folks to be extremely nice and helpful — both over the phone and in person.
I had called around to a few hardware stores in the area looking for some killer hornet spray. Spoke to Kevin who was very knowledgeable and stopped in about 2 hours later to find that they had even put the spray behind the register for me.
Upon entering the store, it does look like Bed Bath & Beyond and YES their products are a pricier version however, this is what keeps them in business. This neighborhood definitely benefits from having this store in the immediate vicinity. Who wants to go all the way to BBB in the heat when you’re just running down the street in need of one thing?!
Great location, clean store and more importantly — very nice staff.

I am lucky enough to live a block away from this place. Pretty much everything I needed to buy for my apartment was here, bathroom stuff, kitchen stuff, hardware, electrical, sometimes I just come in and walk around for a few minutes because theres so much good stuff! Bridget and Kevin are also super helpful, they go out of their way to help you out with all your needs. Obviously the prices are a dollar or two more than the big box stores but I think its usually worth it to keep these types of places around.
I do have one tiny complaint about them though. They have a rewards program and I was never asked to join it, even after a few major purchases. They said to bring the receipts back and they can count them in but I think I threw them out :(
Oh, and theyre open till 10 every day!

I went in to make copies of my apartment keys and when I was handed a set that didn’t look like my keys, I questioned the gentleman. He assured me that they would work, that he had made an exact copy of my key. Thirty minutes later I get home and of course, they don’t. Clearly incompetent at a basic hardware store functions.

Apparently the staff has had a major adjustment in the pleasantness department since the earlier reviews were written, or else they’re not the same workers as before. Regardless, the guy who tried to help me find something today (they didn’t have what I was looking for) was pleasant and helpful. The store isn’t large, but it has lots of nice/​colorful housewares items.

I just needed replacement doorknobs for some cabinets to show my apartment. The new chrome ones always look really nice.
These must cost like 2 cents to make in china, but they sell them here for $ 3.99 each. I can’t imagine how much new cabinets from IKEA would cost if all the hardware were priced this high.
That said I needed it quick, and they are stocked. Can’t argue with convenience!

So this place is fine in terms of selection, and it’s good to have a hardware store in the neighborhood. My main complaint is with the sales staff — Idan S. — who threw away the receipt I needed, and then when I asked for it, made ME come around to his side of the counter and fish it out of his wastepaper basket.
Luckily, I was taking my receipt from the top of a stack of paper, and not, for example, a pit of disintegrating compost.
But, wow. An interesting start to the day.

A nice local place, very friendly staff, has a selection of nice kitchen and bath stuff and very reasonable prices (I don’t know why people said they’re more expensive than BB&B, they’re definitely cheaper for the items I was looking at).

Gotta love a place where you can get your basic hardware needs, luxury linens and an extensive selection of candles and reed diffusers in one fell swoop. Is it pricey? Not considering the quality of the items they carry. The sales people can be a bit aggressive but that hasn’t stopped me from returning many times.

The name says it all: The basics, plus a little something special!
I walked in just browsing, and was super surprised at all I found in their cute store. Everything from light bulbs to luxury candles, they have a little bit of everything. My first trip in I bought suction cup hooks for the shower (random), and a cute cheep makeup bag. I made a trip back the next day to pick up a candle (they have amazing selection– weird), and a re-​useable shopping bag.
The staff is nice, the place is packed with product (a plus for shops like this), and their products are fun to look through. Great if you’re picking up something basic and don’t want to go to Bed Bath & Beyond, or if you’re looking for a cute hostess gift or a treat for yourself.

this place is awesome. walked by many times but never ventured in until today. they’re like a smaller and closer version of bed bath and beyond to me which is great but also dangerous since i went in for 1 small thing and left w/​3. the main selling point was that the lady at the register offered me 10% off of everything if i ended up buying the last random item that i really didnt need but for some reason wanted anyway. perhaps i’m a sucker but damnit i saved 10%, lol. she then asked me for my email address and gave me a little tag to put on my key chain to use everytime i came in to get 10% off. sold!

I go in here from time to time only when I’m desperate for something very cheap and small when I don’t feel like walking to far for the item because its on the corner of where I live. I find this place over priced and the sales people are extremely pushy! When I go in Bed Bath and Beyond I don’t have some salesperson trying his/​her best to sell me something, I expect that same standard in any home furnishing store. Not this place, it’s like going to a car dealership!
I personally like to avoid this place as much as possible.

Not sure how I missed this place — think a mini version of bed bath and beyond, without the bed. But, really, they have a much more targeted (read:better) selection, basically whatever household type stuff you need.
Prices seemed to be a tad higher than I would’ve liked, but it’s a much higher-​end store than, say, that crappy place on the corner of 14^th and 3^rd.
