As a recurring customer I went in today to order two boxes of contact lens since my contacts recently broke. I only have a pair of glasses and I prefer to wear my lenses. Took the day off to get the matter solved before I was going to pay order my lenses I asked the girl at the counter if I could get two samples as it’s what usually happens when you order lenses. She told me the new policy wouldn’t allow me to get some samples while I waited for my order. I asked to speak to the manager who also wouldn’t allow me to get the samples despite the fact that my total on the lenses was going to be $ 160. I told him that as a customer couldn’t he provide me that courtesy since I would definitely be returning for future eye exams as I have in the past as well as lenses and glasses. He really didn’t care about accommodating me and his theory on why he wouldn’t allow me to get a pair of samples made absolutely no sense. I’m grateful this happened because it was a blessing in disguise found a better place that was extremely nice and accommodating also realized that my insurance covered 9 boxes which they failed to inform me. While I was waiting I noticed how horribly dirty the carpet looked and I thought to myself how can it be Monday morning and the carpet look like it needs serious vacuuming. They definitely lost a loyal client that pays regular visits to the eye doctor, all because he wouldn’t accommodate me to a pair of contact lens samples. Customer service in that place sucks!

Stay away. The store is filthy, carpets desperately need a vacuuming. The staff is rude and ineffective.

i purchased glasses there and shouldn’t have. nice frame, arm broke and they absolutely didn’t even want to try and fix them or even send them out to be repaired. the kids, yes kids they have working there are the worst. the crap they do they would not pull on any other population

I took a pair of sunglasses to this establishment to get mirrored/​flash lenses. When I got them back the first time, the lenses were not mirrored. In fact, they were clear. So, they redid them again. I went to pick them up the second time and they were still not mirrored. I explained for the umpteenth time what I wanted. They did them a third time and again they were not mirrored. I was told that they would have them done again and that they would be sure to put the flash finish on the lenses, which was my reason for going to this place in the first place (I usually go to Costco for my glasses, but they do not do the flash mirroring). It has been about six weeks all totaled and I still do not have my glasses. I tried to call one Saturday (today) before their closing time, which is 4:30 p.m., and no one answered the phone. I will never use this optical establishment again.

I went into Benjamin Optical with every intention of getting my glasses there but after I sat down to wait I noticed that the girl that was helping customers pick their frames was in a bad mood as she wanted to take her «lunch» and the other young man who was supposed to help customers choose frames was busy talking to the two receptionists; waiting gave me the opportunity to look around and realized how dirty the place is, that’s when I walked out.
I felt bad because the owner seems very nice but a bit overwhelmed and obviously his employees are oblivious and totally unprofessional, dear owner Sir, you need to have someone vacuum and clean your store and train your employees to be more professional.

I have been wearing contact lenses for almost 20 years. I have a pretty bad prescription, so my eye exams tend to take some time. The person who examined me took less than 5 minutes to try and gauge my prescription. When I asked him what he thought my prescription was, he gave me a number that was lower than the prescription I started with as a teenager. He quite frankly just did not seem to know what he was doing. I asked for my money back, as I didn’t have confidence in the exam. The man who ran the place did give me my money back — they have you pay for the exam before you begin, and now I can see why — after a bit of arguing. Very disappointed.

I moved to Harlem 5 years ago and Benjamin Optical has become my go-​to place for anything related to eye-​care. I have gone there for eye exams, prescription glasses and to re-​order contact lenses. Very good selection of frames, from basic affordable ones up to high-​end designer models.
Very convenient place to have your eyes checked since you can just walk in, put your name on the waiting list and one of the doctors will see you within the hour. Everyone who works there is friendly, patient and professional. They make all the lenses right on the premises so if anything is wrong with a Rx or a fitting, it can be corrected very quickly.
I like that the owner is there everyday and keeps a close eye on the daily operations. I recommend them highly. There is a good reason they have been in business for more than 60 years. They know how to treat their customers right.
