Beyond Pilates

Studio is so bright, super clean and very airy and relaxing. The instructors are really calm, friendly and patient, and they give amazing workouts. I always look forward to these classes and I highly recommend. I have tried many other studios, and this is by far my favorite. Their weekly email reminders make it easy to schedule.

I go to Beyond Pilates for the body work done by Ed Morand, who is a certified Muscle Activation Technique (MAT) practitioner. (MAT is what put Peyton Manning back on top, after neck surgery.) I have been going for over a year. Initially, I needed help with chronic lower back pain. I’ve been practicing martial arts for most of my adult life, and the level of pain I was in forced me to stop. The MAT work that Ed did got me active again.
Last week I went to see him so he could work on one of my legs, which was causing me pain. After the session, both my legs were so energized that I told Ed it was like I had trees instead of legs.
I had sought treatment for the chronic lower back pain through acupuncture and chiropractics. While both helped, neither gave me the long term solution and mobility than the work that Ed has done.

I started at Beyond Pilates last year because i wanted to get back into Pilates after i had hurt my hamstring in my left leg and wanted to stronger heading into the winter. When I met with Ed to talk about his studio and the classes and mentioned I had some injuries he wanted to know about the injuries and then talked to me about how Pilates and M.A.T could help them. He imparted the passion he has for Pilates and M.A.T even in the short conversation.
I did set up a time to come in and get started. Ed was very through and went over everything. The studio is very bright and clean and has great energy in it for the classes and one on one sessions. We started slowly and i immediately saw and felt a difference in my body and how it worked. After many sessions and going into the winter months I felt a lot more secure and stronger. It made me feel more confident.
I do recommend Ed and his studio, Beyond Pilates, to everyone I talk to who is looking for a better Pilates class and more connection to their body with his M.A.T technique. It really has changed my body and my connection to it for the better.

I’ve been to about 25 classes so far… completely hooked. The workout is amazing, the staff is amazing, and it’s a workout I always look forward to. I highly recommend this studio!

This is the best Pilates reformer class in the city. I love the personal attention, the quality of the surroundings and equipment, and the expertise of Ed. the owner and my trainer.
If you are looking to get your body in shape and in alignment, or simply stay in optimal shape… this is the place for you.

I have bought the 3 class package on Groupon and after attending the first reformer class with Ed (the studio owner) I was impressed with his passion for fitness.
The smallish studio is clean and I was immediately attracted with the semi-​private classes offered. When you have max 4 people (usually 2 or 3) taking the class, you get quite the private attention.
My following 2 classes (from the Groupon Package) were with Tina. I love her energy and special attention (correcting posture, making sure the exercise is done properly and the right muscle groups are used, etc). Her classes are faster paced than Ed’s and matched more my style.
I have followed up purchasing the 8 class package and now I am hooked.

As a retired (?) dancer, I have been looking for a great Pilates studio in NYC. There are a lot of studios in this city, but there are not many that are good. I stumbled into this place one day and now I’m totally hooked!
Ed (the owner) is a fabulous instructor. He’s very attentive to your needs and he even introduced me to Muscle Activation Technique during his Pilates classes. Also his group classes are very small, Max. of 4 people.
Joseph Pilates originally made these exercises for injured dancers to get back into their shape. However, a lot of Pilates studios in Manhattan forget to teach that, but instead they teach «what looks good. how to lose weight and etc.» If your body is not appropriately aligned, you will have muscle aches from imbalance of your body. Moreover, you will get injured and will not likely to lose any weight for sure.
Since Ed is an ex-​dancer and he went through injuries himself, he teaches how to correct your bad habits and balance your body. After his classes, you are not only going to get stronger, but feel good and also tone your muscles! After a few months of attending his classes, my friends noticed my upright body posture and toned muscles!

Small, bright, and clean studio with all of the equipment you need. Tina, my instructor, is great. She keeps me focused, keeps the workouts varied and interesting so I never get bored, and helps me focus on what I need to work on. I like my sessions with Tina so much that I keep going even though I changed jobs and the studio isn’t so convenient to my new offices. I’d definitely recommend Tina and Beyond Pilates.

My experience at Beyond Pilates exceeded my expectations. I have tried many class deals through groupon, lliving social and gilt city, and the classes at Beyond Pilates were the most professional and rewarding for my body. The two instructors I had during my three sessions were very attentive and gave great feedback in helping my form and movements. I found the studio to be very clean and nice, and all of my classes to be enjoyable and strenuous at the same time.

Much like other Unilocalers (and New Yorkers) out there, I try many studios and a variety of classes through discount sites such as Groupon, LivingSocial, etc. Usually the classes are decent, but occasionally I find a gem for a place that I’d like to return to. Beyond Pilates is one of them.
I was able to take a reformer and a mat class with Ed (the studio) owner — he really lives and breathes his practice, and it shows in the instruction he gives and the type of class he leads. The other instructor I took class with (Tina) also led a great class.
The studio is extremely clean and welcoming. The class sizes are very small (less than 6 people, usually less than 4) so personal attention is guaranteed. Because of this, I felt that I had plenty of attention and corrections, which is a welcome change in other packed fitness/​yoga classes! The one thing that I found to be tricky is that there is no set schedule for classes like a MindBody signup — instead, you email your availability and wait for confirmation. I never had a problem getting in my classes but I can see how it may be confusing at first.
Either way, this is a great studio if you’re looking for classes with plenty individual attention and instructors who are very knowledgeable and hands on. I definitely plan on returning.

I love this studio. Very bright, clean and airy. It’s great to work out here. Tina my Pilates instructor is patient, friendly and helpful. I feel much stronger in just 5 sessions. My posture is better.
In addition, they send weekly reminders for classes. So it’s easy to schedule.
