Blue ribbon is one of my favorite Japanese restaurant in NYC for the eclectic range of foods in a casual and welcoming ambiance. Great place for family/friends gathering. What meal can be better to have my cravings for fried chicken and good quality sashimi satisfied in one?! I visited the soho location two years ago and really enjoyed the meal and service. I can ensure you that the food quality is still maintained at a high standard here =) The staff is less attentive than SoHo location possibly because they are too busy. Food wise, my friend and I enjoyed everything we ordered — grilled avocado, fried chicken wings(recommend!), and sushi sashimi comb(recommended!). I would say it’s hard to find any dish disappointing at BR. Def worth a visit !

Absolutely love this restaurant! The oxtail fried rice is my all time favorite! Don’t knock it til you try it. Believe me I made a face too and once I took a bite, I fell in love! Lol. Oh and you can order a ½ size portion(it’s not on the menu but it will save you some $$) Their sushi is also delicious!

Been here several times. Love the food and the friendly staff. The sushi is always fresh and excellent. This may not be for everyone but I would highly recommend Oxtail Fried Rice. It is really tasty. One complaint — hard to get a table.

Very authentic place! Very important that we where able to get in between 3pm-6pm, when most of New York restaurants are closed. Great service and exceptional quality of fresh fish. Prices are right and taste is perfect. Will be back soon!

As someone coming from Los Angeles, this is very very good sushi. We did the Sushi Deluxe platter and it was amazing. We also ordered Toro, Uni, and Scallop sushi, which was just OK. I’ll go back for the platter, and will possibly order some fun rolls to go along with it.

Well that was thoroughly underwhelming. The special rolls are only 6 tiny pieces! Also found it rude that the waiter did not even warn us about the small portion sizes. Normally at other sushi restaurants the special rolls are much larger! The waiter was so unhelpful and could not suggest anything or answer or questions thoroughly. We went to an ice cream truck after the meal and everyone was much more satisfied with their choices. The special rolls were not special. Let’s just say the happiest member of our group of 7 was the one who didn’t like sushi.

BANG, it’s a Merlin 5 for this place! This is probably my favorite sushi restaurant in the entire city right now. I briefly considered docking a star for slightly problematic P2P(Price to Portions) ratio, but the quality of the food more than cancels it out. Also love the internal décor. It’s not just dark mood lighting that makes you feel like characters from a Japanese crime thriller are in the back plotting a racketeering scheme. The place also has NOSIGNAGE on the outside, so it feels like you have to be «in the know» to, uh, know about the place. I recommend the sashimi deluxe, dumplings, the quail egg with tartare, and any of the rolls. They have a superb chocolate dessert(sp) as well.

Blue ribbon without a doubt is one of the better sushi places in New York city. Everything is flavorful and the cuts and freshness of all of their ingredients are nothing short of excellent. This location in Midtown is not bad but I prefer the smaller location in «Hudson eats» where you can more of a higher quality fast food place. Like other high-end sushi places, it’s pretty expensive. The picture I posted alone came out to nearly $ 60. Which to be honest wasn’t that satisfactory and I was a little disappointed about the blue ribbon roll which has lobster in the center. But other than that… I’ll be back

My parents came to visit and my father was insistent that this place has the best fried chicken in New York City. I was like. But dad, its a sushi restaurant. My father said that his friend, who knows what he’s talking about when it comes to food, was positive that the fried chicken here would be amazing. So my parents and I came with my bf and none of us ordered sushi– we got two orders of fried chicken, a tempura soft shell crab, and an oxtail fried rice. We thought we would have to order more, but the servings were huge and we didnt finish everything. The fried chicken was very good but not as good as Popeyes. Sigh. What has life become when youre snobby about fried chicken!!!

Stopped by to get some sushi for lunch a the bar. Usually go to the soho one, but the food here is excellent as well. Really well done, delicate rolls, rice is well cooked. The complaints about«expensive for what you are getting» are rather silly since the focus is on quality rather than quantity. Certainly would be back and recommend.

This place is way too overpriced for what you’re even getting. My friend kept insisting we do a late night dinner here because it’s one of the few sushi spots that stay open after 11PM and our other friends said it was a good late night spot. HUGEDISAPPOINTMENT. A sushi platter is $ 26 and it comes with 7 nigiri pieces and 1 roll(6 small pieces of spicy tuna). The pieces of fish were really basic so it’s not even worth trying. My friend decided to do a la carte and each piece was around $ 6+ dollars so she spent $ 50 getting 7 – 8 pieces. I tried the Maine uni which is around $ 6 each and thought it was pretty good, but every other sushi was whatever. I think people only go here to eat the oxtail fried rice with the bone marrow omelette($ 26). That was really good and the double fried chicken wings($ 15) were really good. Just go here and don’t eat the sushi… Our waitress was really nice. I ordered a box of sake(not knowing what it was, just assumed it was more than a glass) but it’s a wooden box cup that you poor sake into and it’s suppose to bring out different flavors since sake are fermented in wooden barrels. The waitress let me try it, but I didn’t want to pay $ 19 to struggle drinking out of a wooden box(when you try to be cultured and fail…). The busser started clearing some dishes on our table and threw the dirty dishes in our oxtail fried rice that we were still eating… so that was upsetting. I did like the music they were playing(R&B like Jhene Aiko and Lauryn Hill), but I really wouldn’t come back.

Bad vibes. This place is not like a downtown blue ribbon. The sushi chefs are looks bored death to work also the server when I asked for hot water did not not even answer but just brought it on to table, placed it far right side. I will never come back to this place but highly recommend downtown blue ribbon.

I would give two stars based on the food since I am a foodie! But decided to give them a three due to The atmosphere of this place and romantic feel. Okay If your looking for a fancy romantic evening with okay food. Pros Very romantic atmosphere I loved the candles on every table. Lights are dim and this place is very spacey and private. I loved the décor and music that they played. This place has enough space for two or fora huge party they had a lot of tables and was pretty cool since when you enter it looks really tiny but they have lots of tables going into the back. I loved that this spot was hidden and a little hard to find as it is located in the lobby of a hotel. There is no big sign I the front. Very clean Cons Too pricey for the quality of the food. I love sushi and this is not the worst but definitely not the best. Prices are around 15 – 20 for a roll of 4 – 6 and they are very small. Rice to fish ratio is about the same provided that the rolls are tiny. I only tried to rolls with my husband and that was only 8 pieces of sushi for 50.00. I have had better quality at a cheaper price. Overall I don’t find my self returning to this place it’s definitely a cool spot to get a drink since the atmosphere is so romantic other than that skip the sushi and find yourself a better spot!

First things first. This place is bomb first because they are open late. Huge plus! I don’t think there are many fancy shmacy places open late in NYC. Next, their food is delicious, especially their bone marrow fried rice. Nice location within the hotel. So it’s out of the view of the public. Cute little bar.

My friend recommended this place so we had lunch. They have a good wine list and Japanese beers/sake. I got a Sapporo and ordered the 10 piece sushi set. My friend got the omakase. The fish was really fresh and delicious but I felt that there wasn’t much for the price. The 10 pieces were pretty uninspired, four pieces were tuna, one was salmon, one fish roe, one eel, one amberjack, one or two yellowtail. The regular roll it came with was spicy tuna and it was really tiny. I believe it was $ 40. So I just felt like there wasn’t a good mix of fish and the fish they chose was the cheapest stuff possible. It was tasty and fresh as I mentioned before but just slightly disappointing. The service was good and the ambiance is nice, kind of quaint and intimate.

I’ve only had one thing here: the oxtail fried rice with bone marrow. Obviously, super indulgent and not something you can eat every day, but a well-deserved comforting treat when you feel like everything and everyone at work is kicking your ass. It’s not written explicitly on the menu, but there is an option for a half portion if you’re eating this by yourself(or want to share this among a variety of other dishes). The full portion is probably good for two people if that’s all you’re planning to eat. This place fills up quickly for lunch(haven’t seen it at dinner).

Wow! What a find. Quite the unassuming place. There are definitely ritzier more foo-foo places with all the Zagat prose to go along with them, but this is my go-to place for sushi. The purveyor of sushi will immediately recognize the cunning and prowess of the fish buyer at Blue Ribbon, which consistently boasts tastiest and freshest spread of crudo in Manhattan. The blue fin tuna belly is extraterrestrial and well worth the price of $ 18.50/piece. A perennial favorite among Blue Ribbon denizens seems so be amberjack topped with subtle dots of yuzu pepper. I was not disappointed. Other specials worth trying are the Bronzino, wild horse mackerel, and the king salmon(from New Zealand). The giant clam from Washington State also boasts laudable texture and flavor. Always eat the hand rolls as soon as they are delivered, while the seaweed wraps are still crispy. The hot food is also tasty. I liked the oxtail fried rice and the buckwheat soba with duck meatballs. Oh, and remember the lady sitting next to Meg Ryan at the diner in «When Harry Met Sally?» I swear, that was the guy sitting next to me as I sampled the lobster with miso butter – the epitome of umami. «I want what HE’S having!!!» I half expected the man next to me to exclaim, I was moaning so loudly. In place of the«cigarette afterwards,» try the gingerbread bread pudding with ginger ice cream and butterscotch pudding. That extragalactic bit of decadence will have you moaning so loudly the guy next table over will DEFINITELY want to know what going on there… This is my go-to place for fast, high-quality sushi when going solo. With food this good, I cannot afford to be distracted by company and conversation.

Prior to a performance at Lincoln Center, I met up with a New York Unilocaler Helen for dinner. The server took our order. My Unilocal friend gave her our order for the Spicy Tuna Special, Niki Maki and Sakana San Shu. I do recall asking the server a question. She looked at me with a very annoyed stare. I then proceeded to ask her name, she said Kate. Interestingly, this server was very pleasant to my friend. When the food arrived, we took several pictures. I noticed after we started taking pictures of the food, a different«much friendlier» server and manager came over and gave both of us a «lot more quality attention». I wish I had gotten the name of the second server. She was absolutely lovely. Regarding the first server, I think she needs to leave any«differences» at the door before she comes to work. All in all, the sushi quality was very good. If not for this first server, I would’ve given the restaurant 4 stars easily.

All I have to say is: Oxtail. Rice. OMG…soooo amazing! We found this place on a whim while looking for a place to have dinner in NY. It is in the middle of Hell’s Kitchen and kind of hidden, but what a gem! Fairly small place, but perfect for a intimate date. A little pricey, but what great restaurant in NY isnt? We also had drinks at the bar while waiting for our table. The bar is pretty ample with experienced bartenders making complex drinks to order. loved it. Maybe not suitable for children, but definitely great for small groups and couples. again, Oxtail. Rice. do it. you won’t regret it!

Im Blue Ribbon Sushi Restaurant werden typische japanische Gerichte a la Karte serviert entweder an der Sushi Bar oder in den authentischen Tatami Räume wo man viel Privatphäre hat. Es gibt noch eine weitere Filiale am Columbus Cirle im unserem Hotel dem Columbus 6 dort nahmen wir auch jeden morgen unseren Frühstück ein. Das Frühstück ist klassisch japanisch mit Misosuppe und eine kleineren Auswahl an frischem Fisch, Sashimi und gegrillten Sachen. Am ersten Abend haben wir das Restaurant zum Abendservice aufgesucht. An der Sushibar erzählte mir der Sushimeister Herr Tanaka während der Zubereitung unserer Sushis dass er jeden morgen alle seine Fische aus dem grossen Sortiment selber filetiert, das Highlight war auf jeden Fall Abalone.
