Order the egg sandwich with bacon, gruyère and avocado. You’re welcome.

Decent coffee but the food here is a JOKE. Ordered a mushroom omelet asking for extra mushrooms and there was MAYBE3 mushrooms in it total. Deciding to give them a 2nd chance due to all the great reviews, I returned for lunch and ordered the Roasted Chicken Sandwich. This is where it got REALLY ugly. Chicken was so hard I nearly cracked a tooth! Took a piece of chicken out of the bread and STILL couldn’t bite through it. If they weren’t paying Unilocal for advertising(you can tell they are because of the enhanced photo gallery) there is NOWAY they would have 4 stars. Save your money.

Yet Another Poem, This One Dedicated To The Folks At Bluebird Sky I’m glad I live near such a pleasant place to feed my coffee addiction. It is a happy $ 2.10 I spend on my way to the no. 6 station. The staff are friendly and even remember my order. They’re my fave! Thank you, kind people, for making coffee I crave.

Such a cute place with lots of 2 tops to sit at. Solid food and coffee. I came here for brunch and ordered coffee and the large plate of flank steak with 2 scrambled eggs, 4 pieces of toast, salad, and pommes potatoes(which is basically thinly sliced potatoes with eggs like thinner than quiche but sort of the same idea). You get to choose the different meat(bacon/bacon trio, pork chop, duck confit hash) and the bread(multi-grain, ciabatta, and something else) plus potatoes(pommes anna, grits, potato). Good food but nothing special. The food was lacking taste. Very cute place. Though the food isn’t special enough for me to come back, it’s still cheap. I paid $ 15.25 for my meal which included refills of my coffee. Cheap is always awesome.

Solo brunch! I had the Farmer’s Plate with Duck Confit Hash. While tasty, I wished I could’ve gotten the eggs poached. but that was met with an «impossible» by the chef. Portions were reasonably sized, though I was able to scarf mine down in under 8 minutes. I really enjoyed the toast(don’t laugh). It was just right amt butter to multi-grain consistency. That balance is hard to get! Will I be back? Maybe… not. I like that it was really chill, but not enough to entice me to try the rest of their menu

This café is delightful. The interior is intimate and rustic feeling. I came here one morning for a breakfast date. They have lots of healthy choices for breakfast and take an eco friendly approach to running a restaurant, which tickled my fancy. The breakfast burrito is DELICIOUS and there is really no reason why you shouldn’t order it… unless you just can’t handle its awesomeness. They had Balinese espresso which was exciting and a good way to start my day. Service was pretty slow, but they just opened so I understand why. The staff could not be any friendlier. Not cheap, but not way overpriced either. I don’t mind paying a little more than Starbucks for a quality breakfast. This is great place in the Chinatown/Little Italy area to get a «real» breakfast with some healthy ingredients. Bluebird Sky is a perfect casual morning date spot, place to work on your laptop, or spot to catch up with a friend. I will return.

Half an hour wait for a sandwich to take out. They actually forgot what i ordered and wondered why i was just standing there for 20 minutes… BUT that flank steak sandwich is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO good!!! Everything seems quite fresh. They COULD work a bit faster. I was just sad to see how small my sandwich was.:(

3.5 stars. Same rating and I’ll justify my reasons. First of all, I really appreciate having Bluebird Sky amongst the faux Italian restaurants and terse and quick-turnover Chinese restaurants. Here, you could seek salvation that you won’t find at the nearby Starbucks(though there are other cute and friendly cafes nearby, but note that substantial dishes are often not offered there, mainly sweets, such as Oro). I applaud the eco-friendly approach, like the cloth napkins(depends if you’re mysophobic or not), the anti-plastic take-out packaging and of course, the wood-inspired décor. My waitress was very friendly and helpful. Didn’t mind that I substituted a salad for the toast. Water glasses were refilled without any hand flagging. Then of course, there’s the caffeine. My iced-coffee was decent. Not intense, but also not bitter(looking at you, Starbucks). My mom and I lingered over our meal under no pressure, albeit only two other patrons were present. During downtime, the young staffs hung around the kitchen, just chilling, which surprised me as our dishes took quite awhile to arrive(with an apology from our waitress). 15 minutes for the BLTA sandwich to arrive? Should not take that long to crisp up the bacon, toast the bread, and fry the potato chips. It was a substantial and filling sandwich, but mom commented that the toast was over-satuated with butter(is that a negative?) and grilled for too long as the bread sides grew too hard to chew on once the food cooled down. Then, the chips had a tad too much sprinkle of salt, which also happened on the flank steak as well. A bit heavy-handed there. However, the scrambled egg was underseasoned, which I guess balanced off the salt level. My other caveat is that only the brunch menu is available on the weekend and the offerings are very limited, whereas the lunch menu provides more options, especially for sandwiches. Maybe the small kitchen won’t allow so many variations especially when it gets super busy, which does happen at certain hours? But I would suggest to add a few more vegetarian or even vegan-friendly choices, now that we are focusing on the green approach. If you want something sweet, I spotted a couple of macarons and small pastries on the counter, but if not, head next door for the famous sponge cakes. While it is not a destination restaurant, it is a welcoming spot to chill and rest your tired feet in the center of a supposedly crowded town. PS now that I looked at the past photo of the steak plate, ours received three less pieces! «*(

You’d never expect it, but nice little gem in the middle of Chinatown. My friend & I were the only Asian people there, which is atypical of every other restaurant in the area. The food was surprisingly good & reasonably priced(additional Scoutmob discount makes it even more awesome… brunch for 2 for $ 25!). I really liked the eggs benedict, which you can order as a half or whole(comes w/2 biscuits). It had some mashup of potatoes and bacon on it that was savory and delicious. I also enjoyed the french toast, which came w/bacon. I’m usually a sweet brunch eater, but get torn b/c I love bacon too much… so happy & grateful that it came w/both! The décor of the place is very hipster-y. Wouldn’t recommend coming here w/more than 2 people b/c seating is limited & the restaurant fits 20 at most. My party of 2 got seated right away, but the group of 4 behind us had to wait for about 30 minutes.

Completely fantastic. Hands down my favorite brunch spot — anywhere. Several stand out items on the menu including the french toast, shrimp and grits, yogurt and fruit and egg benedict. Nice atmosphere and good service. I’ll just keep coming back for more.

In the Chinatown area but hankering for some casual, light American café fare? Enter Bluebird Sky! This little hole in the wall is a clean, brightly-lit café with a pretty simple menu of various breakfast items, sandwiches, and salads along with coffee and other beverages. The bf and I stopped in for a quick lunch on a calm afternoon while running some errands in the area, and I was quite impressed by the quality of the food this place turns out. My grilled chicken salad was a heaping plateful of mixed greens, fresh grilled corn, sweet red peppers, luscious avocado and an entire poached chicken breast — all drizzled with a creamy cilantro dressing. It was definitely more impressive than the average chicken salad you’d find at most fancy restaurants, and an amazing value for just $ 9. The bf tried their braised short rib sandwich, complete with a hefty slab of melty gruyère and onion jam. He and I were both pleasantly surprised by how tender and flavorful the off-the-bone short ribs were, especially for something sandwiched between a crusty baguette. While the food here is top-notch, there was something strangely off-putting about the service. Now I totally get the whole concept of ordering at the counter and then finding a seat on your own(I’m from LA, afterall), the cashier who took our order seemed very disinterested and impatient… I guess I’d just expect to find more down-to-earth, friendly staff at an establishment like this. Given the chance, I’d probably just order for takeout next time.

I love this place. The staff is the best part, all of which are super friendly & do everything they can to make your meal enjoyable. The tofu breakfast burrito is my favorite anywhere. Ingerdients are always fresh & comes w/a generous portion of delicious greens. The fact that they arent always playing typical café crap music is a huge bonus. If they had a few more vegan options i’d give ‘em 6 stars! ***The only downside, in my opinion, is the number of laptoppers and suits taking up too much space for long periods time w/their business meetings. Have your meetings at the office! Also, way too many cops… douchebags, get real jobs and stop ruining the lives of others. These reasons are not the restaurants fault however and they shouldn’t be rated down because of it.

This place is adorable! I typically like to stay in Astoria for brunch on the weekends(great brunch food with better prices than their Manhattan counterparts. plus, I’m lazy) but Bluebird Sky was worth the travel. I owe the discovery of this cute, little café to Linny F. and her Scoutmob deal. Though small, Bluebird Sky has wait service at a few tables. Or if you want your coffee/tea/food to go you can order at the counter in the back. I suggest going before noon if you don’t want to wait for a table. For brunch I had the BLTA(double-smoked bacon, tomato, bibb lettuce, avocado, tarragon mayo) and holy bacon it was good! Bluebird Sky, bless their heart, cuts their bacon into deliciously thick slices. And unlike some restaurants where a sandwich containing avocado means a measly smear of avocado, Bluebird Sky’s BLTA contained a good half of an avocado. YUM! If that wasn’t enough, all sandwiches are served with chips or salad. When I found out that Bluebird Sky makes their own chips, there was no question that it would be chips for me. The chips were thin, not greasy, with just the right amount of crunch. The only shortcoming with the chips was that there weren’t more on my plate. Obviously I highly recommend the BLTA, but if for some reason you don’t like or don’t feel like thick cuts of bacon and a generous portion of avocado(you weirdo), anything with flank steak is also a great choice. See exhibit A: Bluebird Sky’s flank steak is perfectly executed: marinated to perfection and then cooked to a perfect medium rare. Oh yeah, and the coffee’s pretty great too.

What a quaint and peaceful place to spend your hours. It’s small, but not noisy — I’m sure because the design just oozes serenity. The flowers in the tiny vase are fresh, and really add too the atmosphere. I wasn’t exactly sure what to do after I ordered because I thought they would call my name or the order, but instead they served it to me, which was a surprise for such a small place. If I knew, I would’ve tipped more — although for some reason, our order took a really long time. I got the flank steak sandwhich after so many reviews. The bread is amazing, so fresh and soft — and easy to chew, while the flank steak is tasty, salty like a lingering dance on your tongue. I think I inhaled my sandwich. It’s one of those things where you get it once, and you’re too afraid to try something new because the last choice was so good. The only thing that didn’t really do it for me was the coffee. I got a Vanilla Chai Latte, which tasted a bit watery/weak. I didn’t really taste the Vanilla or the Chai — it was good, don’t get me wrong, but good in a, if I ordered flavoured milk way, not Vanilla Chia Latte. Still, I think about the flank steak and the cozy décor of Bluebird Sky. It’s definitely a place to hit up for some writing or conversation.

Stopped by here for a quick drink on a random Friday afternoon while killing time in between Dr. appts and dinner with friends. The lady who greeted me was warm and told me to choose what I wanted and to take a seat. I chose a cute little booth by the front of the café, with a little pillow to prop myself up and some yellow daisies on the counter top. The café is not terribly large, but not small either. There is one long communal table as well as several smaller tables throughout. The vanilla chai latte I ordered was large and only $ 4! The cinnamon sprinkles on top provided just the right amount of sweetness and made for a pleasant 30 min me & my kindle bonding time :)

At first glance, I fell in love. I have walked by this cute little café numerous times and hadn’t gone in. Recently, there was a Scout Mob deal offering 50% off and after hearing from multiple people at the office that the place was a little pricey, I thought the deal was the perfect excuse to order! I walked in and the location was buzzing. It was busy. Good sign. The kitchen area is small but everyone works together effortlessly. While waiting for my lunches, i browsed their stock and saw some really great, local goodies. I was really really really looking forward to liking it here. I received my lunch and with the discount, i still shelled out $ 13 for 2 sandwiches, a soda, and an iced tea.(ouch) The sandwich itself is small. I wasnt expecting a massive sandwich but it is about half of a normal sandwich. And a side salad. The Chicken sandwich with goat cheese, arugula, and roasted red peppers, sounded amazing, but it fell short of the flavor mark. The chicken was bland. The roasted peppers, non existent and the arugula was sparse. The only thing I liked was the goat cheese. The dressing on the salad was extremly salty. I decided to put the salad on the sandwich but it just didnt go the way i had hoped. The meatball sub my coworker ordered was bland as well. It could have been an off day because the place is always crowded… or it could be that everyone goes there for coffee and eggs since they serve breakfast all day. I might go back to try an omlette but not for a sandwich.

I was here a while ago and had the Baxter burger and the short ribs. They were both delicious. I would totally go back for more. Justin, my waiter, was wonderful.

I pass by Bluebird Sky café on a regular basis… and last week was my first trip inside. First impressions? Charming. Banquets and tables for two line each side of the narrow restaurant. So when you enter head all the way to the back to place your order. There were three people working behind the counter in the kitchen(which is even smaller than my NYC apartment kitchen– I didn’t think that was possible!) one guy takes the orders(whether they be in person, via phone or via website) and the other two man the grills. it’s a swift operations. Within 7 or so minutes my sandwich was ready, wrapped up and bagged. And that sandwich? Awesome. I ordered the roasted chicken sandwich(chicken, goat cheese & arugula on a toasted baguette). As I watched the staff make my sandwich I was a little concerned that the baguette wasn’t going to be big enough to fill me up… I was wrong. The baguette was cut to about 6″ and was absolutely filled with more chicken and more goat cheese than I had expected. Generous portions make for a happy gal at lunch time. Oh and did I mention the side salad with balsamic? Yum. I’m totally recommending this spot for lunch. Be warned though, its a bit pricey. $ 9 for a sandwich? ** Yikes! Even if you do get a salad to go with it. Sometimes its rough working and eating lunch in NYC. ** While my sandwich would have originally cost $ 9… I only paid $ 4.50. Thanks to Scoutmob for sending out an email for 50% off my order at Bluebird. If you’re living in a major city in the US– check our Scoutmob!( )

On a quiet street between Chinatown, Little Italy, and south Soho you’ll come across this cute little breakfast /lunch spot(and if you do, you should go in!). I’m not much of a coffee connoisseur, rather someone who needs it everyday with lunch. For me the coffee was just a means to an end. But anything organic or fair trade is a good thing. The posted menu and the printed menus were slightly different(more detail on the contents of their sandwiches on the printed menu), but otherwise pretty straightforward: order, pay, have a seat, and they’ll bring your food over to your table. I ordered the chicken sandwich with goat cheese and red peppers and love it. The peppers were chopped into smaller pieces, unlike most delis where its a huge cut(I hate that). The portion was generous — especially with the goat cheese — and it was served over a nice bed of spinach(did not see that advertised). The bread was nice too, although I found the sandwich to be a little messy(maybe I was too ravenous). A great sandwich, coffee, and a new place to sit and have a classy little lunch.

Diggin’ the coffee, fosho’! Haven’t gone to Starbucks or the Chinese bakeries since I first tasted bluebird sky’s lovely iced coffee. For breakfast, I’ve had the bagel w/cream cheese(which is huge and filling), and their nice refreshing OJ. I’ve also had the Egg sandwich w/ham, and really liked how the flavor of the ham balanced w/the egg & cheese, and flavored the entire sandwich like so. The sandwich menu is served w/side salad, which seems to be mainly seasoned with sea salt & black vinegar, an interesting combination that’s gotten me to devour the salad first and foremost, every single time. The Roasted Chicken sandwich is delicious! First time eating goat cheese, and everything in that sandwich just works together!(I got it with avocado, extra delicious!) The Grilled Flank Steak sandwich is excellent. Eat it while it’s hot and it’s almost like a small piece on heaven in your mouth ;D Best thing I love about this place besides the friendly staff and daily celebrity birthday bulletin, is that all their ingredients look & taste so fresh! You won’t be disappointed.
