It’s like 3.5 with good service but OK food… sorry just can’t bump it to 4 star with a very slushi like texture. no it’s not a taste in itself… it’s just… subpar frozen treats :(

Love(d) the vegan ice cream here! They have(had?) really interesting flavors like lavender, but the flavors are a bit light. I just waked by and see they are closed now. Bummer!

Bookmarked in San Diego and spent $ 15 cabbing it here from Central Park only to find it closed at 7pm despite the winter hours stating it’s open on Sunday’s until 10pm on the shop’s Facebook page. Simply a sign apologizing for the inconvenience. Be weary.

Vegan ice cream made from all natural ingredients… need I say more? Their birthday batter soft serve is out of this world, packed with flavor, and an amazingly rich consistency. Other noticeable mentions include peanut butter cup and pistachio.
For some reason, when i tried blythe anns last year the cake batter soft serve tasted amazing. but when i went last year, it did not taste good at all. i also tried the pumpkin ice cream which wasnt sweet at all, so it mainly tasted like pumpkins and the espresso ice cream was very icy. :(

Blythe Ann’s has a myriad of ice cream flavors, and every single one of them is Vegan friendly. I took my 12 years old brother there(non-vegan) and he really enjoyed cookie dough flavored soda ice cream! Unfortunately, they didn’t have the pistachio flavor when I visited, but the strawberry and mint flavor was great. Although I expected better from the strawberry flavored one. The space is bit small and cash only, but it’s great if you just wanna grab some ice cream then go about your day.

Vegans rejoice! Lula’s is back. Although it’s no longer called Lula’s Sweet Apothecary. I equate this with a designer stepping out from behind the brand to create his or her own line,(like Stella McCartney(vegan!) did when she outgrew Chloe) but in this case Blythe was always the master behind the Lula’s mask. She’s just now taking much deserved credit. I came from uptown amid an insane ice cream craving and decided to make the trek all the way to the East Village and, if I’m going to be honest, I was going to have ice cream for dinner. The only problem was I didn’t want a cone and the quaint dishes they serve the ice cream in, while charming, are very small. This does not a meal make. And I know it’s not supposed to be a meal, it’s supposed to be dessert, but if you are someone who likes larger servings, you should not order stay-in. Get a carton from the«Pints and Novelties» case(see photo) and then go to town. So, yes, I wound up having another dinner after all but enough about that, let’s talk about the goods. The signature soft serve is still there and that’s what I got: «Cake Batter» flavor. If you’re used to places like 16 handles or Yogurtland this is not the cake batter you are expecting so get that out of your head now. It does taste like cake batter, but it’s not quite as sweet like the non-vegan alternative spots, it’s a bit more salty– but it definitely tastes like batter and if you add sweeter toppings you might even get a sweeter more traditional cake-batter-like taste. The soft-serve consistency(made with soy) is ONPOINT. That they definitely get right. It’s creamy and delicious and if you love soft serve, you want this in your mouth. The hard ice creams(made with cashews), of which they have 12 different flavors at a time, are all pretty solid. I tried the cookies and cream and the peanut butter chip. Both were good, peanut butter chip was better.(I also had a taste of the caramel ginger and didn’t love it but that’s just my taste). The presentation is charming. Maybe adorable. Certainly unique. The place itself is tiny. There’s a small counter and three stools inside so don’t bring your birthday party here and plan to stay. it’s probably best suited for take-out and a walk around the village but if you like dining in, there’s still a lot of charm to be had. The décor is very old-timey and yes, hipstery but don’t hold it against them – it’s definitely got it’s own unique style. There is no signage out front so keep your eyes peeled. I think three different storefronts might actually share the same address or at least that’s how it looked to me. Just look right if you’re heading east(which is the way 6th street runs) and it will be there in the middle of the block on the south side of the street. Don’t expect to save on calories. It’s potentially higher-calorie than regular ice cream. But 1) it’s non-dairy and 2) You go to yoga and soul cycle four days a week to be able to eat whatever you want so… viva la Blythe!

I love anywhere that can make creamy ice cream-like treats that doesn’t use dairy. I am lactose intolerant so when Lula’s Sweet Apothecary went AWOL, I was getting kinda nervous. I walked by where Lula’s used to be several times and finally Blythe Ann’s opened up in Lula’s place and serving great vegan(dairy free) ice cream again! YAY. Hours are weird as always. It’s only opened Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday after 3pm. Check the hours though before you go, I’ve been disappointed several times myself so call for hours.

Don’t hate the vegan, hate the… game. Anyway. Lula’s sweet apothecary is back and thank god! Where would vegan ice cream, or ice cream in general be without it? The cake batter is still soft serve, the flavors are still peanut butter and jelly, waffle, and delicious, and the sundae is still the best way to enjoy them. Too bad the taciturn guy with the salad tattoo isn’t working anymore. The next person to take his place has to get two salad sleeves to show that Blythe Ann’s is still king. I challenge bright entrepreneurs to make vegan ice cream the new thing. If anything, Lula’s has the flag up on this new frontier.

I recently came to this place on a vegan ice cream hunt. I saw that Blythe Ann’s had incredible reviews, so how could I not be tempted by it? Unfortunately, I had a tough time finding this place… There were no outdoor signs, no outdoor advertisement board, and no indication of any ice cream place. I actually went up and down 6th street staring at my iPhone maps wondering if this place even existed. Eventually, I found it, and was completely empty except for the associate working behind the counter and a lady who I figured might have been the owner. I can see they were going for a cute, 50’s themed ice cream parlor, but looked a little in-the-works. Aside from my experience just finding this place, the ice cream made up for it. I asked the lady behind the counter what flavor was most popular, and gave me a swirl of soft-served cake batter vegan ice cream. My friends, it was HEAVENLY. Keep in mind: they only except cash(another frustration…), so I had to walk all the way to the nearest ATM and take out cash before I could have a taste of this decadent dessert. Well worth trying, just wish it wasn’t such a difficult experience!

When I went to Blythe Ann’s, I did not see any signs that said that their ice cream was vegan.(I could just be blind). I wouldn’t have been able to tell that this ice cream was vegan anyway. The menu is on a board, the freezer has no labels. Not much seating inside, you’re probably better off taking it to go. Service is friendly, they were able to answer any questions we had. I had intended to try the cake batter ice cream, but I wanted to see if their hard ice cream was indistinguishable from dairy based ice cream. I also wanted to try the peanut butter and jelly flavor. I saw no swirls of jelly in my peanut butter ice cream but I could definitely taste it! It was actually a more pronounced flavor than the peanut butter. There are lots of vegan restaurants in the area, so this is a great spot for dessert.

Still the best non-dairy ice cream around. I’m not a vegan but I appreciate the niche Blythe Ann’s FKA Lula’s fills. The hard ice creams are great but I always get a cake batter soft serve because I’m a sucker for things that taste like I’m not supposed to be eating it raw. There’s some funky hours going on here which makes it all the more elusive and delicious… just be aware if you’re planning to go early in the morning or early in the week, it might not be open and you will be left outside alone, all your hopes shattered.

Came to the previous spot and this is just as good, only better. Amazing what shaving off an umimportant piece of the puzzle can do for a place. Tried some waffles and maple mixed with chocolate chip. What a combo! I almost had a wardrobe malfunction when the scoops tried to kamikaze down to the ground(damn you, Newton!) Luckily, my fist saved it and the friendly staff inside got me a cup to save it and some wet paper towels to clean my hand up.

Amazing. Had no idea it was vegan, best ice cream I’ve had in Manhattan for sure! I got a sundae with mint chip and cookies and cream, topped with hot fudge, brownie bits, whipped cream, and a cherry. Beyond my expectations. Definitely coming back! Super friendly service.

AJVOAWEOFPIAPSDVHONAWE{RGTNSDFHWAEPO!!! THISISSOGOOD!!! I’ve been here before under the other name. The staff is patient as we try all of the flavors. This time I had the speculoos and peanut butter chip in a sundae with brownie bits, hot fudge, whipped cream and cherry. It was incredible. Honestly, I really wanted rum raisin but BF didn’t like that but really, that rum raisin. Holy shizzzzz. The raisins were obviously soaked in rum for 18 days before being blended with the ice cream. CASHONLY. It’s a little random and very small but there are lots of vegan restaurants nearby so just tour the LES and go here for your appetizer AND dessert.

The ice cream is yummy. I got lemon cookie and double chocolate on a waffle cone. There is a great little garden down the street that you can retreat into. The service was fast and friendly. The only reason I am docking it a star is that there are no signs anywhere that say CASH only. I had to run like a crazy person down the street to grab cash from the corner store and run back before my ice cream melted. So FYI– cash only.

Loved it when it was Lula’s and love it now. Hasn’t changed one bit since the brief hiatus it took. There are a few new things in the store like macaroon ice cream sandwiches which are amazing. The best non-dairy ice cream around. They label the ice creams based on what they made from(ie: nut based, coconut based) and have a great variety. The cake batter soft serve is a MUST. I usually go for the brownie sundae a la mode(served warm!) but they also made tasty root beer floats and other old timey treats. Wonderful ambiance. Really makes it feel and sound like an old school five and dime. Vegans and non vegans alike will love it!

The new Lula’s. It seems like it’s just a name change and they don’t have stamp cards anymore. They sell different flavor macaroons in the fridge with pints of ice cream, but it’s a hit or miss. They still have an old fashion theme but I haven’t seen the guy that dressed like the old age. The last time I went, the coffee ice cream tasted like mint.odd. Regardless, I’m still a fan.
