Bollywood Funk NYC

As a professional bellydancer, it’s important for me to study different styles of dance. Since Bollywood and hip-​hop have always been styles that have interested me, I thought this would be a good choice for cross-​training. And I was right! I’ve been in their Advanced Beginner class a bit over a year and it is fun and challenging and keeps me practicing at home for the performance night.
The teachers are very experienced and and break down the moves thoroughly. It is different from other dance classes in that they do not drill the moves before teaching the choreography, but rather do a warm-​up and then go straight into the choreography. But this works well enough because the choreography is taught in chunks that are repeated enough times to learn it thoroughly.
In all, it’s fun and rewarding and I plan to continue indefinitely, and I am enjoying incorporating Bollywood moves in my bellydance choreographies.

I went to the Natyam Beats workshop and it seemed disorganized. I’ve seen the performances by students and they are a little too hip hop style for my taste. Hence 2 stars. Also, you can’t just buy a single class, so have to commit to 5 classes in order to try them out.

This was where I took my first dance class ever (who knew you could take classes in this?), and it has been so much fun. It’s actually inspired me to take other styles of dance as well. There are, obviously, many Indian people in the class, but I would highly recommended it for anyone, even if you don’t have any dance experience.
Not sure what Kate is talking about — her review could not be further from useful, IMO.

Super fun, had my first class, and loved the relaxed, chill (but energy-​pumping) atmosphere. I’ll update this review after a few more classes, but give it a shot!

Bollywood Funk NYC boasts of an unusual fusion of Jazz, Hip Hop and Bollywood dancing — a combination which sets it apart from the various dance classes I have tried before. Believe it or not, the instructor knows the strengths and weaknesses of every student and makes the extra effort to help us dance better than we ever thought we could! :-) On top of that, the people are extremely nice, cheerful and fun loving, which makes these classes the perfect way to learn and enjoy at the same time…

Until I’d come to the Bollywood Funk NYC class and had met this beautiful, fun-​loving, full-​of-​energy crowd :-), I didn’t realized that I needed some fresh air in my life, shall we say, a new bold move :-) People are just great and the instructor is fantastic! Routines she creates and teaches are amazing, really fun to learn and challenging. I would say she teaches not only moves, but the dancer attitude as well and it really matters. Never thought that in so no time I can get so much dancing skill, fun, energy and so many new awesome friends!
