Broadway Farmer’s Market

One of the many things I love in life: Farmer’s Markets. Everything is just so fresh and not to mention delicious! I just so happened to stumble upon the one right outside Columbia U this past weekend. Not only did they have picked right from the garden veggies and fruits… they had other stands with: cheeses, freshly baked rolls and breads, baked goods, etc. The one thing I saw that made me so estatic was the APPLE CIDER DONUTS. Let me tell ya. If you haven’t ever eaten one, you’re missing out. Wherever you are… go outside and buy yourself a sugar apple cider donut. It was 50 cents of heaven. Even though I’m not on the UWS very often, I may just have to make a trip up specifically for this. What a great market.

This was great, and on the way to Columbia from our hotel! I got hot cider for about $ 1.

Meredith’s Breads gets 5 stars, hands down. I would rate the rest a 3.5 if I could, a small yet very convenient farmer’s market.

Always well-​attended by vendors and patrons, with locally grown products and fresh food, as all farmer’s markets should be. I come Thursday AND Sunday every week I can, despite the same vendors being there, simply for quality and value. The winters can leave it plagued with fewer vendors and customers, but that’s to be expected, and I am grateful they continue year-​round.

You know what they say, «An apple a day keeps the doctor away.» Well, if you’ve been slacking with your apple consumption and are starting to get worried then the Broadway Farmer’s Mkt. is where you need to be! They should probably just rename it «Broadway Apple Market (‘N Things).» Nah, veggies (whatever’s more or less in season), preserves and baked goods are all well represented. Usually a stand with seafood/​shellfish and another with dairy items too. Nonetheless, I tend to stick with the apples, apple cider (hot!!!), apple doughnuts, apple gumbo, apple …

This little Farmer’s Market is great. It’s on Thursdays and Sundays from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Consistently, there are two produce stands (one also sells grass fed beef), two bakeries, one jam/​jelly/​chutney stand, flowers and plants. Occasionally Ronnybrook Dairy shows up.
Everyone is very friendly and helpful. It’s never too crowded and there is a good variety of local made/​grown food.
