I have a 1960s pole lamp that stopped working. I had no idea if it was the switch or the wiring. Over the past few years I have tried contacting various lighting stores for quotes and nothing panned out — either the quote was exorbitantly high, they said they would come over to see the lamp and never showed up, or they said to call and all I ever got were answering machines where I left messages and no one got back to me. A few days ago I contacted Bulb Concepts through Unilocal and they responded with a ballpark quote. We emailed discussing the job. They always replied promptly. I took the lamp in (not fun carrying a 10 foot long lamp 12 blocks). They immediately removed the switch, saw it was broken and tested it with a new switch. It worked. I left the lamp as they had to fit the replacement switch which was slightly larger. They did a fantastic job. It’s a vintage lamp and they fitted the new switch so it looks naturally part of the lamp. they had the lamp ready the next day and charged me the amount they had quoted. They were responsive and great to work with. I recommend them highly.

Such a wonderful shop. We ordered six custom pendant lamps for the common areas of our townhouse and they not only produce the nicest light but they look stunning. The wonderful people at this shop guided us through the process and custom made each one for a fraction of what we would have been anywhere.

Unilocal helped me find Bulb Concepts. I had a contractor walk off of a job in midtown and needed to match the lighting equipment he left behind.
Jessie was extraordinarily helpful in troubleshooting, identifying and ultimately resolving my lighting issues. Her prices were fair and competitive and her expertise, refreshing.

They had a weirdo bulb that I could not find anywhere, and great service!

This may be the weirdest thing I’ve ever typed, but this is by far and away my favorite lighting store. My apartment’s lighting has never been better. The staff is incredibly knowledgable and friendly. They have custom fixtures that are unique and well priced. I covet all the lamps.

This is a small but solid bulb and consumer lighting store. The staff is really nice, very accommodating and the prices are competitive. Not only that it’s located right next door to McSorleys Ale House which is always good for a few cheeky beers after you stock up on all your bulb needs!

As a relative newbie to NYC I had no idea where to buy light bulbs when my bedroom light blew… After a quick Unilocal search I headed to Bulb Concepts in the East Village. A cute store with incredibly helpful and friendly staff.

Went here because they had tons of flags and flowers out for their opening. The owners and employees are very nice and the opening party had a family feel to it. They have a good variety of light bulbs and fixtures and are adding more. Especially nice are the antique bulbs, which are works of art on their own. They also have some beautiful custom fixtures and they explained that they will make you a custom fixture from your own concept or design.
I asked about full-​spectrum bulbs and the owner said they would be getting them next week. Worth a look! Especially when they get more of their inventory in.
