Café on Broadway is also known as Café 86. This restaurant is great for breakfast, brunch or lunch. The staff from the manager to the cashier to the chefs are fantastic. I have had the pleasure of eating here on several occasions and it is always consistent. Great food, fast service and a pleasant relaxing environment. If you have to choose a place for a quick bite to eat Café on Broadway aka Café 86 is the place to go.

«Create your own pasta» This place is amazing with this feature. you can choose the noodles you would like for your pasta. They offer linguini, penne, ziti, rigatoni just to name a few! When u finish picking the pasta of your choice, you can hand it to the chief and they will bring you to the meats and seafood section. «Meats/seafood etc.» So the chief brings you to this section and let’s you choose any veggies, meats, or seafoods you want(I usually add broccoli, shrimp, and chicken) and he then begins to take you to the sauce and spices station. «Sauces and Spices» They have an arrangements of sauces and spices available for you to choose. From Alfredo(my favorite) to penne vodka they have many unique sauces to try so if your stomach can handle it I say try each one over time. «The end result» The pasta ended up costing less than 10 dollars and, the best part was that portions was not overwhelming, it will take u some time to finish the plate. Overall win here!

This review is based on a delivery, not in store experience. Because of that, this one will be a more«bullet point» style since I basically just have a list of facts. What we ordered: 2 small coffees, egg and cheese on a roll, and french toast breakfast. Order took approximately 40 minutes on a Monday morning at 10:00. Food tastiness: I mean, it’s hard to mess up egg on a roll, french toast was good, bacon was pretty overcooked, coffee was weak. Delivery service: sandwich was fine, french toast was served with a separate bag of butter and syrup on the side and came in it’s own plate-style container, coffee lids were really cheap and therefore about a quarter of the coffee had spilled out of each cup. They were each placed in their own plastic baggy so they didn’t spill on any of the food or make a mess, but my guess is the plastic bags are a result of knowing the coffee spills frequently, but not wanting to just invest in better cups and lids to prevent a bit of the spilling. Won’t order delivery from here again, but I would potentially try dining in if it’s an option.

Lesson one: don’t swear at your customers. This place obviously hasn’t learned that. This was by far the worst experience I ever have had in a restaurant. I’m not one of those serial Unilocalers and I never really write any negative Unilocal but this is on a whole new level I ordered a bagel and a small coffee. One of the people behind the counter got confused and she asked me if I ordered a latte and I said no I ordered a coffee.(She hadn’t even made the latte yet). She must have been confused because my friend ordered a latte. Apparently this was too much her her to handle so she flipped out and said something to me which I couldn’t make out entirely but very clearly called my friend and I «fucking» somethings. I couldn’t hear the end of her sentence but it sounded like«bitches.» First of all I am one of the more polite customers and have worked in food services so I know how things work and I am always respectful. Another staff member heard and realize how absurd it was and tried to apologize for her saying she was tired because it was at the end of her shift. In my mind that is no excuse to swear at anyone let alone a customer. Her fellow employee told her to go away and go help other customers. really, she should be fired. With the multitude of bagel places in NYC you do NOT need to go to this one. Any place where an employee can swear at a customer(for no reason) is not worth your time. Unless you like a big«f’ you» with your morning coffee stay away…

My relatives live in the Upper West Side and I’ve been coming to this place for years now as a go-to, quick service breakfast and lunch spot. Prices are reasonable, the service is always quick and you can get iced coffee to boot. I almost always get an everything bagel, lox, & scallion cream cheese with an iced coffee. Never disappoints. Girlfriend always gets the orange juice & it’s always fresh(we’re from Florida so this is a big deal) and I’d recommend — even though I know it’s frozen. Build your own salads are great, with TONS of toppings and goodies to add. If you’re looking for a quick, no hassle bite in the UWS I would absolutely recommend. Take it to Central Park for a quick date snack as well ;)

Fast delivery and cheap. However, the broccoli and cheddar quiche I ordered tasted so horrible that I threw it away after a couple bites. I would rather have paid more and gotten something edible.

The breakfast we had(breakfast sandwich and French Toast with bacon) was very good and very reasonably priced. The lady at the cash register was adorable and very sweet even in the midst of a rush. Would definitely come here again for breakfast.

Expensive but reliable. Have never eaten their hot foods but if you need a create-your-own-salad late at night, it’s a good place to go. Open till midnight and they have no minimum delivery.

I ordered the full meal: Philly cheesesteak, french fries and homemade lemonade which was a good deal but I had to wait forever for it. When I mentioned that to the cashier she shrugged and said there are other people to attend to. True, there were a few other people but no rush of customers. I’ve been to places with a much longer line/far more customers and have gotten my food much faster. Then I tasted my meal and it wasn’t very good. The fries in particular were completely tasteless. I got up to return my food and someone behind the counter(perhaps the manager?) said he wouldn’t give my money back. Since it’s a deli, they may have a right to say that but I did eventually get my money back and the person then said«you’re lucky that you’re getting your money back in the first place» in a very rude tone and told me not to come back. Extremely rude. I wouldn’t want to come back anyway because I wouldn’t want to waste my money or time there but the situation could have been dealt with much more graciously. Avoid at all costs!

Loads of options; salad bar, sandwiches, bagels, cold and hot food, etc. Their bagels are pretty delicious and not too big like some bagel places in NYC. It makes me feel so much less guilty when I indulge in a New York bagel here because of the decreased size. They have an OK selection, including egg, whole wheat everything, multigrain, poppy and others. I went with a multi grain toasted with veggie cream cheese and was so relieved upon opening my bagel that they didn’t load on 8 pounds of cream cheese like most places do. It was the perfect amount, the veggie cream cheese was delicious. The café isn’t huge but there are a couple of tables inside. The customer service wasn’t really friendly, but it was a busy Sunday morning so I couldn’t blame them. Standard prices for a café on the Upper West Side.

Someone from our office orders from Café on Broadway at least once a day. The breakfast meals are a sweet deal — omelet breakfast with home fries and toast is under $ 8 bucks. Plus they’re no minimum for deliveries. Everything is pretty solid taste wise — burgers are good, chicken sandwich, philly cheese steak, gyro sandwich, their side old fashioned mac & cheese, chicken fingers are all under $ 6! Just an easy, quick delivery for your breakfast and lunch.

The food can be ok. They overcharge for nearly everything. Usually a $ 1 up charge or more for drinks, $ 2.50 more for sandwiches … Like that. The service is often bad, and it may get worse if Managment gets involved. I can’t tell if the manager is oblivious or arrogant, but the staff follows that lead. The counter staff would be better served by a better boss to emulate.

The food is azing but when it comes to over priced they win the merit, why would they chard $ 9 for a roll with 1 egg bacon and tomato i bet you i buy the items separately and with $ 9 i can make at least 6 sandwiches but hey thats the price we pay for eating out and in the UWS

I often come here when I have a break from work since my job is between 86th and 87th. They have a lot of variety in food from soup to sandwiches. Burgers to cupcakes/cookies/pastries & pies. They have just about anything. I’ve no complaints except sometimes the prices of some of the items but than again it is 86th street on the west side. I particularly like the employees. They are kind and awesome people. The music they play switches up day to day which is refreshing considering I come here a lot. They even played heavy metal here once or twice witch I thought was kick-ass! More metal please! ^_^ Oh yea the only other complaint I have is the extremely loud coffee maker. On days I’m stressed I just want to destroy it lol. All in all it’s a good place. I totally recommend it! –Gabriel Sebastian Soto

I really don’t know what I expect when I decide to go out on a limb and order a pastry with my morning coffee. Somehow, I always forget that I don’t really like their pastries because I can never finish them — they make me feel sick halfway through. Yet, for some reason, I think that ordering different ones will make me feel otherwise. I haven’t found a pastry that has been able to disprove that point yet. The morning cashier woman is super friendly and cheerful. I think the manager is a little creepy looking but whatever, right? Things here are definitely overpriced, especially if you’re buying a pastry. However, I think that their coffee is pretty on point. I mean. It’s not as cheap as the coffee you can get at Columbia but it’s way better than Dunkin donuts coffee. I definitely just come here for the coffee. I need to remind myself that the pastries aren’t worth it.

The people who work there are nice but the managers are terrible, they treat people like crap. Food is overpriced and they overcharge on your credit card after you leave! If you pay with a credo card, look at your bank statesmen because they are overcharging you, they claim they just make mistakes, but it happens a lot! Do not go there and support thieves!

I love this place — not because it’s some 4 star luxury resturant or anything fancy, but because it does exactly what you want it to do. Cheap, decent«fast» food with pretty great customer service. Everyone I’ve ever interacted with there are very nice and even joke around with me at times. They have a great NYC breakfast sandwich for on the go mornings, and I love whatever sauce comes with those chicken fingers(some wasabi concoction)! I wouldn’t recommend the desserts… They tend to be on the stale and not so fresh side(with exception to their lemon bars. Mmmmm). Their delivery is very fast too, which isn’t always the case with most UWS places. This is definitely where I get my breakfast when I’m taking the 1 train, and I’ve brought people here before too when we are on the run and need just a quick bite.

Stopped here for lunch on more than one occasion — usually on the way to the museum. I like to order a roast beef & provolone sandwich on a roll, and it’s amazing. Their fries and mozzarella sticks are great too. Boyfriend loves their soup. They have a huge selection, and they seem to make everything well. The only downside is the tight and limited seating, but you can usually find a seat after a few minutes … or squeeze in with someone else. Most people seem to order and go anyway.
