Hmm, I wavered between a 3 and a 4, but I’m ultimately settling on a 3. Reputation aside, it just didn’t actually taste that mind-blowing at all, and I think people are letting internal décor and location take over their objectivity. I was also disappointed that the quail on the menu wasn’t actually available. Beef carpaccio, tuna tartare were strictly OK, but I’ve had way better at Asian fusion or Japanese restaurants. I’m a fan of «kitchen hybridity,» but when it doesn’t quite work, you really notice. Main event for me was risotto and a chicken with truffles, again, nothing exceptional that I haven’t had at much less fancily decorated places. Only standout dish was the neopolitan cake with ice cream: WOW!!! If my entrees and appetizers had tasted like that, we would’ve been looking at 500 stars possibly.

Amore! I will start with the service, outstandingly warm and kind people. They make sure you are attended well despite their busy tables. This place is packed! And it looks like the people who come here are regulars, I only visited this place once and I have always been wanting to go back, I will very soon. Food was excellent and cibo delizioso! Great collection of wines. This place don’t need flowery words, instead, I highly recommend you go and try!

Love this place. Very unassuming from the outside, but once you come in you’re treated to a great Italian dining experience. I’d recommend the bufalo mozz app and for entrees you can’t really go wrong. If they have meatballs(usually a special sometimes on weekends) go for it!

We had our wedding reception here and to say the least the atmosphere, service and especially the food was out of this world. An amazing choice from a superb menu from pasta to steaks and a variety of fresh fish. We cannot thank Elvis and the staff enough for making our special day very special. Don’t even ponder about going here… JUSTGO! Will we be back? DEFINITELY! Looking forward to seeing you all again soon. Kieran and Angela

I NEVER tip less than 20% but the service here was so miserable I only left 15%. These guys are rude, arrogant, condescending and unapologetic about their dilatory approach to the diners. First, we asked about how the sole was prepared. We were told«No sole» not«I’m sorry madam, we don’t have sole today.» Maybe the fish in the market wasn’t up to their standard, I thought. Well, then we tried for an appetizer but they didn’t have the artichokes. Again, no apologies — just a kind of take it or leave it attitude. My dinner companion and I considered leaving — less because of the missing food than for the big bucket of attitude they were serving. When a restaurant has all male servers it always gives me pause. We already had wine and rush hour in that part of the city on a Friday is from hell so we decided to tough it out. The pros: Generous pours on the wine as well as a great bread basket and an amuse bouche version of a charcuterie plate(bread and meat are complimentary). What wine did they serve? you might ask. Beats the hell out of me. We weren’t offered any wine list or any information on the wines other than the type they carried. I feel sorry for the chef who cooks a decent entrée — he knows how to season and grill shrimp and the risotto was nice. The extra star is for the chef. Oh, and let’s not forget the waiter snatching our glasses of water practically out of our hands along with a still occupied plate of complimentary biscotti(which arrived after we paid our bill) in an attempt free up the table. NEVER again!

Incredibly generous. Came in for a glass of wine and they gave us a complimentary plate of cheese and charcuterie. Delicious wine. Very friendly server. Would absolutely return

This is our favorite NYC restaurant for many reasons: great service; generous drinks, including the best cosmopolitan in the city; a wide and appealing menu of regular items as well as nightly specials; the best breadbasket around; delicious and beautifully-presented food; and the ability to hear yourself and your companions talk. we always leave feeling relaxed, well-cared for, and well-fed.

A friend brought me here this evening. I can’t believe I’d never heard of the place before. It’s a throwback to a more pleasant time. We were greeted as we walked in and shown to a quiet table. I’m someone who enjoys dining at a real size table with linens. This is my kind of place. No squeezing into a crowded place at a postage stamp-sized table that’s just been cleaned with windex. My friend had the fresh soft-shell crabs, which she loved. I had the chicken breast with truffles. It was so delicious, I’ll now be craving it! Service was lovely. Even as the restaurant filled up, no one said a word that we lingered over our espresso. I can’t think of one thing they could improve. I look forward to dining again at Canaletto.

This place is absolutely fantastic. Terrific bartenders and even better manager. The wine list is terrific and if you are craving any sort of Italian dish they will make it. Best hospitality in the city.

Went on a whim and it was terrific. Our waiter had great suggestions and all of our dishes were delicious. He was also very funny and was great with the kids. Your meal begins with chunks of Parmesan and sliced meat as well as a basket of bread. Great way to start! I had the lamb chop and it was sensational! The veal meatballs were extremely tasty. Great meal and I will be back!

I have been eating here consistently for over a year for many reasons .In short they do everything right. Décor, food, service… not to mention the best chicken parmigiana in Manhattan. Friendly staff, great bread basket, delicious wines. Reasonable prices for the neighborhood as well! Eat here now.

A buddy of mine stumbled upon this gem. Quaint little resturaunt that makes u feel special as soon as u walk in the door. Warm, stylish atmosphere. Not snobbish. Knowledgable & attentive staff that aims to please. The food was excellent & the drinks were made to perfection. Great if ur in the mood for casual dining or if u wanna impress someone special, with ur own little place. I enjoyed the cordials brought over by the manager… Lemon Cella, Grappa & another I forget the name :) Nice to see such a genuine establishment. Good food, good people & very reasonable prices.

Im just going to skip right to it if you guys don’t mind. Lets start with the location, which is on super busy East 60th located down the block from the Ed Koch Bridge… Traffic beyond belief just on this one street. Next is the super tiny store front with a bright yellow awning that says the name on the side, but only says«Bar» in front for anyone who’s across the street. I found that slightly strange and not to mention kind of difficult to find at first. Once I stepped it, that tiny whole in the wall turned into quite a classy looking restaurant. Gorgeous Oak bar with about 9 barstools, Stocked liquor and a flower bouquet to greet, not a bad start. The ambiance was very pleasant with slightly dimmed lights, but not the kind that you bump into random tables wonder… Hmmm maybe they’re saving electricity for christmas? The interior was attractive to say the least. Bottles of wine all over the place and stacked in a nice presentation, and kinda shiny even, meaning no dust(Thumbs Up). White linen tables across the floors and clean cut wait staff. They were a bit to loud when speaking to the tables but that may be due to the presbycusis that filled the room. The food was nice, but nothing I would really brag about to be honest. I had the baked clams which came in a generous portion, but lacked flavor. They did taste super fresh as if just opened and just topped with some breadcrumbs and BOOM, appeared at the table. The Cozze(Mussel and Baby Clam) appetizer was also a nice portion, with a decent broth, but again nothing really intriguing in flavor. All of the dishes were nicely plated with a clean finish. The reason I give this place a 4 star rating is due to some important factors. The service was nice, attentive when needed, but polite. The décor seemed very polished and well put together. And the bread Basket was out of this world Fantastic. It included breadsticks(crisp), White and Whole wheat sliced baguette, and this sun-dried tomato squares which were unbelievable, I mean truly unbelievable. Blew my mind that they had such good bread, and not even being an french restaurant(no offense). I did not get to try any dessert, but they give you biscotti that had this licorice aroma. Overall a very lovely evening to have a quiet dinner. Maybe not with anyone of the younger age brackets, but you know. And Prices are reasonable for the portions, in my opinion.

Over priced Italian food and terrible, stuck up service. I would definitely not recommend this restaurant. I was here a few weeks ago, and our server was just plain rude! He also didn’t seem like he wanted to wait on us at all. The food was not impressive, I could have done better and much cheaper!

Quite enjoyable. Was treated impeccably despite being a single woman dining alone and not very nicely attired. Felt well cared for and the food was good, though not extraordinary. Not hip, but elegant. Do be advised that the Unilocal menu is not at all accurate, for selections or prices. Pasta dishes are around $ 20, rather than around $ 10. Don’t go out of your way, but worth a try if you are in the neighborhood.

Traditional Italian food, good but overpriced for what it is. Bottles of wine are marked waaay up also. The large portion of shrimp & asparagus risotto was tasty. Veal scaloppine dish was small.

If you are looking for authentic Italian food come here. The wine is delicious and food is amazing. Complimentary thin home made breadsticks are to die for. If you are by yourself and need a good laugh or just want some conversation, sit at the bar and the bartender will keep great company! This place is very intimate… nice for family, a date, or quite business dinner.

The food was overpriced while the quality and taste were only average. On top of these, the service was poor. We had to wait for almost an hour to be seated and the waiters were appallingly rude to us throughout the evening. If you are looking for a tasty Italian and a friendly place to dine, this restaurant is certainly not for you.

What a hidden gem this place is! You know when you almost missed the entrance because it’s overshadowed by its American burger/diner neighbor! Walked in off the street ’cause a friend who was visiting from out of town was craving pasta… and this may have been the best spontaneous move yet! The owner/manager in a suit sat us promptly the second we got in… a round table with us both facing the rest of the tiny quaint place… candlelights and low ceiling with italian art and paintings all around made us feel like we were in Italy! The delightful cheese platter with bread that came first… with the menu… got us all excited! The cheese are aged so well, the bread was all warm and soft and the breadsticks are to die for. I kept munching on it. Entrees were perfect. Lobster linguine with white sauce was the right amount of creamy… not the heavy, sleep-inducing kind. Decent amount of lobster. The special sea bass with clams and mussels in a light tomato sauce was not too salty or tomato-ey! My friend was raving about the food non stop! Dessert was just the way to go. We had two: the tiramisu and the blueberry panna cotta! Omg… the BB panna cotta was the right amount of light! The tiramisu was just the right amount of sweet. Service was great… all the staff worked as a team and were extremely attentive to all our needs, whether it was refilling drinks, cleaning the table or clearing plates. I suppose the right amount of everything made this place perfect! I would certainly come back here again… for a date or a small dinner party. I think the fact that the owner is working the floor and tables is always a good sign that this restaurant takes pride in its service and customer satisfaction! Tip-bits: Be prepared to be blown away by yummy Italian food and service!
