Delicious food and personable service ! Owner John was very friendly and gave us free dessert.

The service and the food have gotten even worse of late, especially since a new owner/manager came on board. I had been coming here since they opened decades ago, at first because the food was good — quality in that department went downhill many years ago — and later, because the location was convenient to my apartment. But never again! If you want a diner with decent food and service, go to the Dish, which is a block to the east and far enough from the High Line that owners/staff workers there feel they must work to maintain local customer loyalty.

I haven’t thought about eating a patty melt in I-couldn’t-tell-you-how-long. My friends and I came here before a late show at UCB and it felt like the inside of a grandma’s house in a really comfy, Americana way. We all pretty much got burgers or grilled cheese type things(mine being the hybrid I guess). Also got an eggcream and cherry soda(cherry syrup in Coke!). The only downside was my friend tried to get a couple things from the daily specials(stuffed cabbage and Salisbury steak) but both were out as well as baked potatoes. But hey, goes to show food is actually daily! Definitely wanna come back.

came in early sunday am after a night at the park. really clean diner with nice views of chelsea on 23rd street. the menu is surprisingly easy to navigate… sometimes diner menus are just overkill. like a chinese menu that refuses to end, but this one was pretty scannable. i was going to order a burger, but then i opted for the pastrami/corned beef reuben instead. served open face, big but not gigantic. melted cheese on top and its great to break into with a fork and knife. fries were golden and delicious. perfect fries really put me in a good mood. the pickles left a little bit to be desired. and honestly i forget what juddy ordered, i was too busy shoveling my food down. for like 3 am it was a good find, not far from the late night meatpacking madness. i daresay in the city its the best diner ive been to. and its strange, i tend to go to diners more in the city than in jersey(i get some things backwards okay haha). and this one — clean, delicious, affordable and hey, it even had some personality.

We were wandering around after a movie, and it was late afternoon. We had dinner plans at 9, so we didn’t want anything too heavy. The Chinese restaurant was already closed, so we decided to come here. Great location and the windows offer a different perspective of the city and its people. «Sit anywhere you like» Kitschy look inside… it’s a diner with diner food, no-nonsense wait staff… food is decent. I got the eggs benedict and though it was alright, it didn’t have that heavenly kind of hollandaise that I’m used to. Home fries looked more like smashed potatoes… LOL! Jonesy had the bacon and scrambled eggs… toast you had to butter yourself even though it says, «comes with buttered toast.» Bacon was done crispy which was a plus. It was breakfast, a late breakfast, so maybe some of the other dishes are better. It’s also open 24 hours so maybe when you’re drunk, things seem better.

Do not eat here if you have any food allergies. They will yes you to death and say no problem, but then fail to accommodate anything as they agreed. Even something as simple as no bun on a burger was messed up. I then explained that due to the severity of my allergy(which was already stated once when asking questions about the menu) that I had to ask them to remake all the food since it came out with the bun on the plate. The server apologizes and says no problem. He returns 5 minutes later with«new» food on a different place but I notice that it looks identical(like avocado is arranged exactly the same) and confirm that it is entirely new food because I will get sick. Server confirms again that it is new food. Spoiler alert: It wasn’t!

Cute diner look and the staff so so but the food was gross. It literally tasted like they microwaved an old cheeseburger. I thought maybe I just happened to go in on a bad day considering the reviews are pretty good. Went back there again this weekend and I had to wait for over 40 mins for chicken tenders and an order of mozzarella sticks which were very over priced. The chicken was not cooked so I had to complain and wait for at least another 30 mins for a chicken ceaser salad. To top off my experience the staff was allowing guys who obviously just came back from a club roll up and smoke weed in the bathrooms. I know this because they were sitting at the bar table which my table was close to they were all laughing and talking about it like nothing. That place was a big disappointment their prices and food quality are waaay over rated!

I love this place for late night food . There are 2 servers who really stand out for me and I am happy when they take care of me. One is Carlos and another one unfortunately I don’t know the name — taller gentleman with greish hair. Good place to eat at night when you super hungry and don’t want anything sophisticated.

I’m so embarrassed — I reviewed the diner across the street instead of this one. So I’m correcting that now. If you are looking for pretense, pizazz and waiter service that will help you fill that hole that mommy or daddy abandonment left in your soul, this is not your diner. If you need flashy food and a nervous need to please, don’t come here. However, if you want a delicious home-cooked meal in adorably quaint surroundings, this may be your new place. The food is, I just can’t describe it any other way, like coming home. There is so much love in this place. Caring and attentive waiters, but they give you your space. Go with their recommendations. When I walked in, I felt like I entered a much-welcomed time warp. Thank you for being you, Chelsea Square. See you soon! Yes, my review is very much on opium. Can’t help it… still coming down of my most amazing fried chicken high from last night.

Been walking to work as of late. Cold morning looking for a warm food place. Chelsea Square screams NYC. Diner menu. Got me some eggs. They have a bar. I might come back for a martini. Drew let’s meet. I have another million dollar idea. Diner drinking really gets creative juices flowing. Also big plus. Classic rock being played.

Stopped by for a couple of coffees to go and was so impressed with the service and the coffee that we came back after supper. Cakes, cheesecake, coffee and tea for 8 and everyone loved it. Service was friendly, just like you would expect for a home town place. The menu had a wide selection of foods; some deli, some Italian, some Greek. Everything we saw looked good and everyone was enjoying their meals. The view was terrific and it was easy to relaxn enjoy my coffeeand watch the world go by. We are planning another stop which is easy cinsidering they are open 24 hours a day.

This is my fave place in the city to go. The owners here work around the clock and the service is accomodating. As I waited for my friends to meet me at the bar having coffee, I saw the owner who was sitting at the end motion a 5 year old over as the family was leaving. He had a pleasant talk with him and gave him a large cookie, which definitely made his day. Not necessary but totally makes you appreciate warm hospitality whenever you see it! Oh and the food is fantastic. Im eating the Monte Cristo which is way better than Bennigans, and got a hazelnut cappuccino(off menu, noticed they had syrup at the bar).

The half carafe of rose wine was very nice. We enjoyed it very much, and enjoyed the option of a middle sized amount of wine rather than buying by the glass or a whole bottle. But my main tests for a diner are how well they do a grilled cheese with bacon… and bacon all by itself. On my first visit, having never been there before and being with a group, I didn’t have the gumption to trek through the massive menu. It’s not just several pages… it’s practically two feet tall. lol Watch your glasses when looking so you don’t dump your wine! The grilled cheese was evenly cooked and they do not skimp on the bacon. It looked so good that the person sitting across from me at the table also ordered one. Then on my second visit, I ordered a turkey club sandwich and a side order of bacon very very well dead. — That bacon was absolutely perfect! They got it right the first time. That’s enough to sell me on this place for good. If we happen to be in the area, I’ll know I can come here and get the perfect bacon to soothe the savage soul. The items I saw others ordering looked and smelled pretty tasty as well. The french toast was massively thick. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many strawberries piled on top of a waffle. The wait staff may be a bit curt sometimes(busy place, I totally understand — and actually appreciate wait staff that’s not overly friendly), but they are perfectly professional and didn’t rush to take my empty plates until I was ready.

This place was ok. In a great area. Walking distance from Highline. The server was incredibly honest. When I ordered cheese blintzes, he said — You don’t want those! I was, like, uh, ok why not? He said that they had been frozen, and when they are cooked, they don’t heat up well. I was better off w/eggs or french toast for breakfast. Disappointing, but ok. The French Toast was fabulous, by the way :).

3.5 stars! came here for brunch on a sun since we were too lazy to look around. if you’re in the area and looking for the classic diner food then try this place out. we were greeted and seated right away. the waiter quickly came by and took our orders. we ordered the eggs benedict and corned beef hash w eggs. it didn’t seem too long for the food to come out since we were people watching through the windows. The food was okay. The corned beef hash was a little burnt in some parts. the eggs were cooked just right(can’t really mess up sunny side up eggs). the portions are big and the price isn’t bad either.

Walked into here for brunch mostly out of curiosity and being lazy to find any other place. The food was quite mediocre. To make things worse the place isn’t all that cheap either. Since most restaurants or diners serve pretty excellent food in NYC, you are probably better of going some place else.

Standard Diner I take from all of the signed photos of various folks in the entertainment industry that this place has been around for ages. I ordered a basic eggs, bacon and home fries and the food was pretty standard. The only major annoyance is that the service was kind of slow for a Sunday at 9am even though the place was ¼th full. I do not know if the kitchen was backed up or if the waiters were a little struggle. All in all, this place has edible food without all of the bells and whistles.

The atmosphere is super homey and cute. We popped in here for dessert when Billy’s nearby was closed earlier than expected. Alas, the cakes couldn’t really rival Billy’s, but the warm apple pie was a treat! And the waiters here are super friendly and accommodating! Would come back for them alone.

The most special thing about Chelsea Square restaurant is that it doesn’t feel special. A diner reminiscent of standard childhood meals, or late night college study booth hangout — Chelsea Square delivers predictable fare in a clean environment that feels a bit uncalculatingly retro. We imbibed in a late night snack of strawberry cheesecake $ 6 a slice that was straight up satisfying with its old school grandma gelatin glazed topping. We hit on some girls next to us and made some good 30 minute friends. I suggest you do the same.
