Not terrible, but there are so many better options in the immediate area. The atmosphere is fine if you’re looking for a low key place to eat and relax. The service leaves something to be desired. Things were done promptly enough, but the waiter could not have been less interested. The main plate was brought on top of my appetizer and the appetizer plate was never cleared. Never followed up to see if everything was okay or if I needed anything, and I had to flag him down for a check. The food was«meh» at best. This was the second time I had lunch here, and it was the second time my stomach didn’t feel right a short while later. I doubt I’ll be back to this place again.

After a hot hot hot day at the Highline, you walk down the steps and you’re faced with the desolate West Side of Manhattan. Just a couple blocks away from the park exit, Cloud 9 is a solid place to chill out and grab an afternoon snack/drink. We got there during the afternoon and it was mostly empty. The all-day breakfast is great and the portions are huge, so an omelette split between two was perfect. The OJ is also fresh. Prices are reasonable. Décor seems updated and is nice.

I like this place. It has become my second dining room. Whenever I’m in the mood to have a quiet night with some decent-priced food, this is my goto spot. They deliver. They very seldom forget anything(and the one time that they did, they not only gave me the item they forget, but also refunded my money for that item as well). Service is great. I mean, I’m not going to be invited to any waitstaff weddings, but they are friendly, and remember me when I come back. The open-faced turkey sandwich is GI-NORMOUS. Half now. Half for lunch the next day. Where can you get that for 13.95 in Manhattan? And the next time my mother calls, and asks me if I’ve been eating my vegetables? I can proudly say. YES. Because the sandwich is not the only mountain on the plate. The spinach is equally abundant. Like a dense amazonian forest, it sits there, all delicious and chalked full of nutrients — as if to say — go ahead, make your mama proud… and then do it again the next day too. :) And lastly — the check. So light. So lovely. And so quickly appearing and disappearing from my booth so that I may move on with my night. Just SUPERB. Don’t you worry. I will see you again. :)

This place is a great city diner. Affordable decent food, typical prices, lovely booth seating. The staff are extremely accommodating and pleasant. The bathrooms are nice and clean. The food is fresh and the plates are big. They are open on holidays when most places are not. They are close to both Penn Station and the top of the High Line. You really couldn’t ask for more.

You must not have taste buds if you like this food, and you must not know manners if you like this place. The staff walks about yelling at each other, they look very unprofessional, they took almost 30 minutes to prepare simple dishes like waffles(what the fuck,) they brought my friend the wrong order, and my burger was so rare inside, I could have preserved the blood even though I ordered it well done. If a diner manages to not cook a burger right let alone serve the right dishes, then it’s just not worth going to. No matter how hungry you are, just walk to 34th and et anything else, don’t go here.

Early this evening we were walking by there again and decided to give dinner a try, and it was great all-around. We both ordered the broiled salmon(a bargain at $ 15.95), which came with a small salad(nothing special — although the honey mustard dressing was good), a potato(we had the baked) and a vegetable(we had the sauteed spinach). The salmon and spinach were *really* delicious. Our server was the same friendly one from two weeks ago and both busboys were sweet-natured. Also, we met the owner(Dino) and we had a very pleasant conversation with him.

I work nearby and this place has become a standby for lunch. It’s got decent food and good service. The prices fluctuate, usually in the upwards direction, but nothing too crazy. A go to dish for me here is the chicken fingers(generous serving size) with honey mustard dipping sauce with a side of sautéed broccoli or spinach. Great sauté without too much oil but with plenty of garlic. Edit: The prices keep going up and up so I’ve subtracted a star. Also if you order online through one of the various websites for online ordering their prices are higher than their normal menu, which already has out of date, lower prices.

I walk in, the guy wipes down the dirty table and then with the same wet/dirty rag he wipes down the seat where I’m supposed to sit, so it’s wet and gross…/ now I’m starting to imagine how disgusting the kitchen must be treating the food. Then they don’t give us menus, then two different waiters ask us about drink orders. At this point I was so diagusted with the mismanagement I couldn’t possibly imagine eating the food anymore(which is really bad anyway from precious experiences). If you want untrained staff and disgusting food, enjoy. But I walked down to skylight diner instead and had a great breakfast

Stopped in here for the first time since it was the Highline Café. I really liked the Highline Café, but was hoping this place would be just as good. it wasn’t. The décor is nice — aesthetically, it actually looks very similar to how it used to look… except it’s all new. And they took out the bar. Kinda seems like a waste to spend months and months to do a full renovation; gutting the place when it still looked sparkling-new — and putting in all new stuff that looks like they ordered it from the same catalog. Oh well. I ordered a lunch special from the chalkboard outside, which said that it was $ 7.95. Meatloaf wrap. It just wasn’t good. It had meatloaf(which was overly greasy, overly spicy, and tasted leftover), a lot of bacon, and gross, fake American cheese in a chewy, soggy wrap. Maybe it is just me, but when I hear«wrap» I think there is going to be lettuce and veggies in it. There was no kind of garnish at all. It wasn’t good, at all. On top of that, they charged me $ 2. extra for it. I wouldn’t have complained, except that it was so dissatisfying to start with. But no, they said it was $ 10. and I couldn’t make my point, because while I was eating 3pm had passed and they’d already washed«lunch» off the chalkboard. Spent the rest of the day feeling like I had a heavy stone in my stomach. Ugh.

Typical NY diner fare. Attentive service. Stopped in for lunch with an appetite after walking High Line Park. Good portions, fair prices here.

Apparently it’s been here awhile now, but not that long, I must have walked by and missed it, it’s in the middle of a block. What was there before? Cloud 9 is such a good name for a diner, and it’s a really pleasant, long, narrow space, too, with high ceilings of painted tin, brick and wood walls. I hope they have a long lease and commitment to diner food because this is a hot, rapidly changing area… it’s becoming hard to find a doorway to pee in anymore. I went for lunch and it was relaxing and breezy, good service, and a nice place-mat on the table, suitable for writing a letter on. I’m sure the food is standard Greek American diner food, all of the cooks come out of the same school, which is: other restaurants serving the same food. But I can only speak for the Greek Salad, which was fine and nicely proportioned, served with corners of grilled pita, and plenty of olives. My only complaint is there was no anchovy, but I could have asked, didn’t, chose to be annoyed, not just by this Greek salad, but by every place that serves a Greek salad and omits the anchovy, thinking, I guess, that some people are FREAKEDOUT by anchovy these days. Anchovy is strong, not particularly healthy, and kind of weird, I admit, but it is what makes a Greek salad for me. Of course, I should have asked– while ordering, actually– but also, the waiter serving a Greek salad should ask–«Do you want anchovy?”– that should be standard practice. The other thing is my usual complaint about the flat screen TV. Take a big, beautiful brick wall and hang a flat screen TV on it– why? Would you nail a turd to a Rembrandt, I don’t think so. It is wrong on so many levels, and only one of them is design. Next is the fact that the TV is ON, usually on CNN or some other heinous news broadcast. Do I want, while dining, scenes of death and destruction, stories of bad judgment and tragic results… isn’t there enough of that to go around on the ads that come with every single thing on the Internet? If you must, there is a newspaper in Manhattan available every ten feet, plus everyone has a phone, everyone can watch the news on their phone, or soap opera or porn on their phone, and wouldn’t they rather choose than have it be chosen for them by the manager of a diner? If you happen to be with a dining partner, do you want their eyes constantly diverted from you to the TV? Why do I have this gym membership? So my date can look away from my hot body to the hot body of that person in the gym ad up on the flat screen TV? If you MUST have a TV in a diner, why not just one behind the counter, for the counter patrons and employees back there– and if it was me, I’d get one of the old-style TVs with the big, old, heavy tubes which almost seem quaint, charming, and nostalgic these days. I’m sorry to pick this moment to complain about this TV business, but it is really something that bugs me. I’m ALWAYS going to subtract one of my Unilocal Michelin stars because of that flat screen TV, I’m just committed to that practice, trapped in my own ideology, so to speak. But anyway, I think the Cloud 9 is a fine place and I’ll come back, try some other things on the menu, bring a date or write letters on the place-mat, etc. I got a good feeling from this place and I also have a thing about the number 9.

When this place first opened, I figured it would be the same as the rest of the failed joints that inhabited this space in the last couple of years; the same olé’-same olé’-nothing-to-write-home-about food. Stopped in for giggles 6 months ago and now I reallllyyyyy hope this place sticks around for awhile. This is the definition of a traditional city diner. The food is very good, there’s a few nice spins on some old standbys. the cloud9 burger with the jalapeños mixed in is pretty darn good. Just enough heat… The downside; every single delivery(about 1 a month since they’ve opened) i’ve had from this place has been messed up in one way or another. From missing utensils to missing food items. Luckily they’re right down the block and have fixed it every time without a problem. You’re better off going into the place and eating. 3 stars instead for 4 for the neglect with delivery orders.

First of all breakfast all day at great prices! Amazing! I had the stuffed cinnamon cream cheese french toast with home fries and for $ 8.95(I think) it was stuffed to the max and oh so yummy! At one point the owner/cook/chef came to the table to ask how we were… thats kinda unheard of in NYC especially at an inexpensive diner. I will definitely be back for more. I should also add how friendly our waitress and even bus boy was. Great staff.

This joint is NASTY. What a shame. This location has changed hands three or four times over the past few years. The present owner has spent a lot to make the place really lovely. Tin ceilings, handsome floors and booths. It really is a class joint – visually. The food is abominable, though. The meatloaf, oh-my-god, is dried up and literally curled up at the edges. Just plopped on the plate. Not even a tiny sprig of parsley to gay it up. How hard is it to make a good meatloaf? I ask you ! The Brisket is tough. How can brisket be tough? It is prison food: Greasy, grisly, without adornment. The salad is so horrible that you will think immediately of Woody Allen’s Deflavorizing Machine. Don’t get me wrong. I am not a snob. I LOVE diner food. This place is just ridiculous. The owners clearly don’t know the first thing about food. To make matters worse, the wait staff will ask you at least seven times if «everything is good». Mind you, not«How is everything?» but«Is everything good?“Is everything good?“Is everything good?“Is everything good?» Run, don’t walk, from this horror.

Nice clean and quiet escape from the perils of midtown west. However, being a diner, I was hoping for better cake. I ordered the carrot cake… which was actually just four inches of shortening with two tiny slices of «cake» on either side. It tasted like ground up Smarties candy. We told the waitress the cake was terrible and she kind of stared at us blankly until the manager came over and swooped away the cake. A few minutes later he brought out two pieces of cheesecake garnished with sliced strawberries and whipped cream. Much better than the carrot cake, but I probably won’t come back for dessert. Overall 4 stars because the place is clean, quiet, friendly. However, I really hope Cloud 9 considers replacing their baked goods vendor immediately!

This opened a few weeks ago and at the suggestion of my neighbors I wandered in. Overall the place is great. Nice décor, friendly staff, and everything on the menu is priced right. The Spartan wrap I had was great. Nothing negative to say about this place, but it’ll take another visit before I can give it 5 stars.
