Old school bar — places like this are a dying breed in disneyfied manhattan. Good food at an affordable price A rich, storied past. If you are looking for a hip, young, mixology bar(like one reviewer was, apparently) — this is not your place. If you are looking for a relaxed, comfortable place with friendly bartenders and good eats — this is your place

There are few times where someone working at the restaurant successfully lures me in. Cody’s was such a place. The bartender/owner(who’s name I sadly forget) was warm and welcoming, shouting out«come on in», as we glanced inside the place. He sat us down at a table, took our orders, and was off. I’ve had Black and Tans before, but for some reason, this one was better than any I’ve had. The bartender had clearly poured his share of them before, because the contrast between the Bass and the Guinness beers was as clear as a black & white cookie. Sadly, I drank it before I snapped a pic. The menu had a good variety of pasta dishes(which I found interesting for a lunch option) and some sandwiches to choose from. I landed on a smoked turkey with red pepper and guacamole sandwich with sweet potato fries. The sandwich was well crafted-usually guacamole tends to make things pretty slippery in a sandwich setting but this one held together nicely. The turkey definitely had a smokey flavor, but it may have been store bought. With that said, I didn’t mind it at all. The fries could’ve been more crispy, but hey, that’s just my liking. I would return to Cody’s in a heartbeat. The food was good, but the drinks and service from the bartender were spectacular. Small touches like offering coffee after our meal and providing a shot glass full of peppermints are things I really enjoy, and look forward to when eating out.

A great place for inexpensive drinks, good food and a welcoming environment. We had a wonderful experience on a Tuesday evening… a slow night. Plan to return immediately. Attentive service, delicious food and $ 6 pints! A true gem!

My husband and I had a really good experience here. We were in the neighborhood for a friend’s orchestra performance and had a little time to kill before heading there. We stumbled upon Cody’s and decided to try it out. It’s looks were a little deceiving, but we were all for giving it a chance. There were a few tables of people and one person at the bar. We cozied up to the bar for a drink and the man who was out waiting tables came back and took our order. The beer selection was small, but I found one I was pleased with. My husband ordered a Manhattan and it was HUGE(and only $ 8)! The bartender checked back when I had a few sips left to see if I’d like another. I ended up finishing two beers before my husband finished his cocktail(it really was a BIG drink). We didn’t eat, but the menu had quite a few items. The food that was brought out to the tables looked decent. I don’t know if we’ll be in that neighborhood any time soon, but I would go back if we stumbled upon it again.

I’ve been going to Cody’s for almost 7 yrs now. I live around the corner and it’s a great place to grab a quick late night meal. The menu has plenty to choose from. I am particularly fond of the Chicken Penne Pesto… they do this to perfection. And their home made salad dressing is delicious. not to mention the house salad is enormous. The owner/bartender/waiter is always in a great mood, very accommodating and very quick witted. I’ve brought several friends here for dinner and have yet to be disappointed. Simply said, love Cody’s.

I am a fan of this spring street area neighborhood and have been coming to this bar for years, well a few times every year. I actually just spent this past Super Bowl here with some people and had a great time. Giants winning of course made everything better. So glad the Giants did win the game. I have to say there was alot of random hugging in the crowd. I can’t say this place normally has alot of room for dancing but that night we made room for sexy dancing. We started a conga line and pretty much said the words«GIANTSWONTHESUPERBOWL, GIANTSWONTHESUPERBOWL». We danced around as a group then started another chant«PATRIOTSLOSTTHESUPERBOWL, PATRIOTSLOSTTHESUPERBOWL». It was really fun I tell you. I always try to get some pasta when I am here. Also, they have one of my favorite beers on tap Carlsberg. I love the beer and do not always find it at many regular places available on tap. Palm Beer is also good, I get that here too. My time here is always good, having a few drinks with friends and eating some great bar foods(Chicken Fingers, Nachos, Hot Dogs). Also had some potato salad and pasta salad, along with some really great tasting Cole Slaw. –The bar setup is very old school. Will of course be back to get my Carlsberg fix here. I come here also every year for the Pig Roast. Such a great thing to do for the neighborhood. Always have a great time getting some beers with friends here.

Cody’s was a great place to stop for lunch during a day in NYC. We happened to be walking by and decided to check it out based on the exterior, which accurately matched the neighborhood pub feel of the interior. They also had a menu posted outside and the prices were very affordable. Most lunch items ranged from $ 7 – 11. The interior was fairly plain with only a handful of tables and a small bar, which made the place feel cozy, though I can’t recall a specific style of décor. I had a turkey sandwich that was enhanced by garlic bread, red peppers, and avocado. It was a good choice, though the country style mashed potatoes that came as an optional side were excellent. They were definitely homemade, served chunky style and they were delicious. My boyfriend had the fish and chips which was probably more flavorful than my sandwich. The fish batter was light and crisp which created an enjoyable texture which contrasted with the moist fish. One thing to be aware of: alchoholic beverages are expensive. Our bill was just over $ 30 and half of it was the two mixed drinks consumed by my boyfriend. The drinks were strong, though not large, and priced at around $ 7.50 each. I was glad that I was thirsty and had decided to stick with water. I found service to be friendly and efficient. It wasn’t busy and the waiter did seem to give us a bit extra attention without being overbearing. The atmosphere was very relaxed. There were a group of guys with thick Irish accents chatting with the bartender when I was there, which was a nice addition to the background noise. Not sure I would go out of my way to go back to this location, since there are so many options to explore in New York City, however it is a great place to check out if you are in the neighborhood. It was a tasty, inexpensive lunch.

My boyfriend and I stumbled upon Cody’s this past Friday before seeing Adam Rogers play at the Jazz Gallery. We went in to get a quick bite to eat and were pleasantly surprised. It was pretty empty for a Friday evening so we were a bit skeptical at first. The bartender who was also our waiter was very pleasant and quick with the service. I ordered the turkey burger and my boyfriend ordered the pasta special. We were both happy with our meals. Nothing fancy but better then expected. My boyfriend and I both agreed that we would come back to this place. Good food, good service, and moderately priced.

Absolute friggin’ disaster of a bar. Got here last night for a pig roast they were having and immediately it was pouring rain out. The place itself is the size of a shoe box and everyone was packed inside to escape the rain. On top of that is was hot, humid, and totally gross out and they did not have any AC on. WTF!!! Are you kidding me? Close the damn doors and put it on already! Also, if you like hanging out with people your parents and grandparents age, along with some kids and babies, then go here by all means. That was the clientele here last night. Seriously, most of the crowd here was OLD, and sprinkled in with a few younger people here and there. I am sure this is a locals bar for the area, but sheesh, it’s at the far end of nowhere over here. Hot, sweaty, and disgusted I could not wait to escape this place after an hour and cool down at another bar. With AC on. And people not my parents age.

I went here tonight for a pig roast. Upon arriving, we immediately saw the pig going round and round. Then we saw the pasta… the potato salad… the hot dogs… and the burgers. So.Much.Food. and all for free! After a brief downpour and being soaked, we decided to eat, as did everyone else. There were also a ton of drink specials going on. I got myself a Guinness and was pleased with my free dinner and cheap drink. The bar itself seems like Cheers. Unfortunately, not everyone knows my name at this particular bar. The bar setup is very old-school but very nice and classy. There are TVs everywhere and a few tables to sit at, as well. The bartenders are a little slow and noticing you but they’re fast once they take your order. I’d like to come back one night for just a drink.

I really wanted to try this place out but the owner turned me off. I think he was the owner. But whomever it was they need to quit, be fired or just close down. The service I received was terrible and I wasn’t even there for more than 5 minutes. My girlfriend and I sat down at the bar and we immediately felt this«unwelcoming» feeling but ignored it because we were hungry and we were probably disillusioned because of the long walk and heat. We asked to see the menu and we were ready to order. I ordered the turkey burger and asked the owner(or some guy behind the bar idk) how does he like the sweet potato fries? Then he said, «What does it matter?» So I asked him to repeat himself because I didn’t want to believe I heard what I heard. And he said it again, «What does it matter?» My girlfriend and I looked at each other and said«Thank You» and walked on out. I understand that people have different«tastes». He may like mutton and I wouldn’t, you know, but he could have answered the question a different way. Anyways, he saved us time and money. Thanks dude! Whoever you are. Now I understand why no one was in the bar.

I think the food here is really good for how much you pay. It’s a nice place around the neighborhood being that I live in Tribeca. I think the people that work here are so friendly and very sweet. It’s a nice place to kick back and enjoy some beer and comfort food. I come here because it’s low key. It’s definitely not one of those ritzy Manhattan Restaurants, but that’s why I love it!

I hate to admit the food here is not that good, But I respect it for being a Cheers type of bar for the neighborhood. The crowd is neither young nor pretty, They are either middle-aged or blue collar gritty. They always have the same beers(Guiness, Sierra, & Carlsberg) on tap, And the old-time regulars don’t care to complain about that. The atmosphere is cozy, quiet, and low key. It’s the perfect bar for me when I turn 50!

It remembers both the«bar» and«grill» parts of «bar and grill.» Good food, nicely stocked bar, and a great bartender. A buddy and I stopped in here for a quick dinner the other night. We grabbed a seat at one of the tables and the bartender/waiter/entertainer was there within moments and cracking(relatively funny) jokes right off the bat. The menu was legit without overshadowing the whole«bar» aspect of the place, with a good selection of various grilled sandwiches, burgers, and the like. I got the grilled sausage with mozzarella and grilled peppers, and my buddy got the turkey burger. Both were very solid and well-prepared; I can say that my dish in particular had plenty of sausage on the bun, and a very reasonable amount of peppers and mozzarella as well. A good, tasty combination. Also, I should give a mention to the sweet potato fries, which were excellent as well. That said, the food wasn’t mindblowing or anything, and service was a little slow owing to the fact that one relatively chatty bartender was taking care of everybody. Still, if you want a good, unpretentious and enjoyable bar with tasty grill fare, you could do a lot worse than Cody’s.

We go here every year after a huge wine tasting at Skylight(which is right across the street). They have an amazing beer selection and this place is just the best combination of down home/dive and casual chic. The owner is always singing and a total old school charmer. Stop by for a cold beer sometime, you’re sure to enjoy!

I was a fool to ever give this place less than a perfect score. Unilocaling Gods of Beer-soaked glory, please forgive me. The epitome of a neighborhood bar, in a neighborhood that isn’t very residential(at least for folk in my tax bracket), this has become a staple destination spot for my partner and I. Very generous, super hilarious barmen set the tone, with the bar crowd all exchanging wee stories in between yelling at the sporting event on TV. Reasonable prices, good food, and I never manage to leave after just one pint. Also, random factoid we learned recently: John Belushi used to rent this place for his private post-SNL parties. While this place isn’t Animal House(thankfully), it’s certainly most worthy.
