Naked chick paintings above the bar. Wowee. $ 17 cocktails. Wowee. Wait… wha… Hamachi was like butta. Broccoli with charred garlic… holy shit. I had gas for days. Pasta carbonara with coddled egg was ginormous and deeelish. Beautiful west village locals adorning this venue… Thurs — Sat. Hard to get a seat. My waiter had the dopest red beard in NY. You go, ginger.

we were promptly seated at noon on a Sunday for brunch.(3⁄5 of us) John was our server, and boy was he in for a pleasant surprise! After studying the menu for about 20 minutes(we didn’t order right away, because we were waiting for 2 others to join us) we decided one chocolate donut — as to not be disrespectful towards the rest of the party. An hour passed, but our 2 friends were still not here. We decided to ask john 67 questions about each item on the menu to which he had comprehensive answer to, with a vibrant smile on the whole time! He must not be from NY! finally we ordered a nor’easter drink and deviled eggs. We figured the 2 got lost and will be there shortly so just that would hold us over. at this point 1 hour 45 minutes passed and we asked our vibrant and polite server, John, 34 more questions about the menu, which only had about 15 items total. We asked what he recommends, with a smile and some wit he told us to try the short rib Benny, the carbonara, and the avocado toast. Naturally, we went with his recommendation. Our 2 friends never actually made it because of the Pride street closures, so 2 hours went by and we finally ordered brunch and ate it all in under 5 minutes. John, you are an angel sent from heaven, thank you for putting up with customers from hell today!

I really enjoyed the food and overall experience. I really liked the space and atmosphere — it does get a little cramped and loud. As others have noted, it is on a very charming and quaint street. Fried oysters were delicious. Hamachi crudo was very good, the sauce might have been a little heavy handed and it needed a little more acid. Hanger steak was delicious. For all of the talk about the bread service, I was a little underwhelmed. Decent wine list. Very good service. Staff were very welcoming and attentive. Will return.

This is my «ace in the hole» for just about any situation. Colleague in town? Date night? Friend’s birthday? Catch up time with friend? Solo dinner at the bar? Bingo! 1. they take reservations for almost any size party 2. its never ridiculously crowded 3. the staff is friendly 4. the bartenders are fun and knowledgeable 5. the food is consistently delicious: kale salad, deviled eggs, pasta carbonara, roast chicken, fried chicken. this a sampling of the things i’ve ordered 6. I love the tucked away location 7. The cost = the benefit

How is it possible in 2015 to so badly screw up your restaurant experience with so many people waiting for more than 45 minutes for their tables? A 7:45 table sitting at 8:35. Our 8:00 table and it’s now 8:50 and we are still standing here?

When you walk into a crowded restaurant and none of the three greeters have smiles on their faces, you know you’re in for a rough patch. We had an 8pm reservation on a Thursday night. We arrived early at 7:40pm, and were not seated until 8:35pm after the obligatory three glasses of wine at $ 15/each. The unusually high noise volume generated by the hipster wannabes at Commerce made conversation more than challenging. The waiter advised us that if we wanted the whole roasted chicken for two, it would take 40 minutes. We placed our order right away. We then waited, and waited, and waited… without being waited on. No check-ins to see how we’re doing. Occasionally, the bus boy would fill our water glasses. I finally nabbed our waiter at 9:30pm to ask if the kitchen had forgotten about us. He said things are taking longer than usual, and then left us alone again… for 20 minutes. The food finally arrived at 9:50pm. While tasty, the«Pecan Crusted Long Island Duck with wild rice, root vegetables & blood oranges» at $ 34 was far from satisfying. It included two small fatty strips of duck, some plum sauce(I think), and a very small dollop of mashed potatoes with vegetable bits mixed in. Blood oranges? I think not. My wife had the salmon, while my son and GF split the chicken. They enjoyed the taste of the food, but the taste in their mouths from the entire experience left much to be desired. We didn’t stay for coffee or(my) birthday cake. PH

IMO, this is truly a «3.5 star» restaurant. Just an «okay» experience for quite an expensive price tag. Made reservations for Sunday night, dinner for two. My friend got there before I did and the restaurant was practically empty, yet they made her wait for me at the bar. Once I arrived, they sat us at what may have been the worst table in the house. At first we thought it was because they had a lot of upcoming reservations, but we were there for two hours and let’s put it this way… we could have sat at a six person table and there would have still been availability. The little booth we sat in was tiny… tiny as in, if they sat an adult male at this booth, he would have been half in the booth and half on the floor. Our waitress was nice, but the service was slow. Again, being that there was practically NOONE in the restaurant, you would think our food would have been out in 15 min. Nope, took about 45. I got the short rib ravioli, my friend got the pork dish. We both thought our meals were good, nothing out of this world. We each had a glass of wine(very pricey) and shared cookies and ice cream for dessert. Dessert may have been my favorite part. I probably would not come back here. For a little over 60 per person, you could get more bang for your buck at a million other locations in NYC. Totally disappointed :(

One of my favorite restaurants in the city. LOVE Commerce. The bartenders are always super nice, and the food is delish. LOVE the deviled eggs and the pork schnitzel. The herb salad is my favorite salad in the city and the BREADBASKET… ridiculous. Go for it. Went last night and said to my husband we need to put Commerce back in the rotation. It gets crowded and loud, so go early.
