I took a Jewish Culture and Cuisine tour with context and had as my docent Sarah Lohman, a gastronomic historian who also works at the Tenement Museum (where our tour ended, and that offers very interesting large group tours — but nothing so personal as what we got with Context). We were with a family of three, so the group was 5 people. Sarah took us on a tasting tour of the Lower East Side’s deli’s and bakeries, talking about not only food but the immigrant experience in this area, and the process of gentrification nowadays. It’s a difficult topic that she handled very well, and I highly recommend the tour.

I was just in NYC for a week and went on three different Context walks. I thoroughly enjoyed all of them. The Central Park walk was very interesting both historically and in landscape design. The guide was a very knowledgable architect herself and clearly loves her job. She talked non-​stop! The best part is the small group. We had 5 people on this tour and you don’t miss a thing. I also did the Greenwich Village walk and the Architecture walk on 42nd Street. Those were equally interesting and deepened my understanding of New York as a great city. I am certain I saw places that most New Yorkers have never seen, such as secret parks, buildings and did you know there is a underground spring under Washington Square Park??? I am happy to see that there are Context tours in other cities and I will definitely go on walks when I am in a Context city.

How often do you get an Architectural Walk with an practicing, teaching Architect? We took the walk of the Meatpacking District and the High Line Park and enjoyed every minute. What I really liked about it was the small group. Only 5 people, so you never felt like you were part of big «tourist» group. You can get around more easily, hear the guide, etc. We enjoyed getting to know an insider’s recommendations also on restaurants, coffee shops, famous people living nearby, etc.
