Dickson’s Farmstand Meats

A hot dog. That’s all I wanted. A hot dog. And if you’re used to those «dirty dogs» found floating like corpses in a stainless steel coffin on the street corners of NY for $ 2, then your toes will curl up with joy when you take a bite out of a hot dog from Dickson’s Farmstand Meats. In essence, these guys know their meats and they do it well. And if you want just the best of the best of a simple food product like a good All American hot dog, come here. The skin of the dog is literally bursting with flavor. How do I know? Because I ate it plain. Just the hot dog and bun. And it was good.

If browning meat is one of your favorite pastimes, then buy something from Dickson’s. My husband and I go here for special occasions when we’re celebrating or we want to impress guests. The shop is inside Chelsea Market, and while Dickson’s has lunch items we’ve only ever gone here for the butcher shop. Their meat is expensive, because it’s the best. We go to Trader Joe’s and buy everything else at an affordable price, and then spoil ourselves buying meat here. Over the years we’ve purchased whole chicken, pork chops, sausages, a 13-​pound Thanksgiving turkey, and most notably a 3-​pound, dry-​aged, 2 inch-​thick Ribeye.

These butchers know their meats. Some of the most unbelievable and beautiful cuts I’ve seen. We got some delicious hard meats. The capacolla was unlike any other I’ve ever had.

Went back again, this time for the spicy Italian sandwich. It was was amazing, even packed up some to take with me to the airport. But highly recommend you eat the sandwiches right away.
This place is popular, ppl linedup two days before Christmas on a wed morning waiting for it to open its doors.

This place is inside Chelsea Market! I didn’t realize that until I got there. When I finally found it, I was surprised. I assumed it was a sit down restaurant but soon discovered it’s more of a butcher shop. Don’t let that stop you from coming here.
I brought a few friends, we all had a hot dog, the best in the city! I also got the roast beef sandwich which had some sort of aioli. My heart was calmed, but I’m sure my blood pressure was high. We’d gotten there a week before the Thanksgiving rush, so it was pretty packed.
They lose a star for the seating. Otherwise, this place is perfect! I’ll be back for all of my butchering needs.

Amazing butchers! I come here for all of my steaks and good cuts of meat. The butchers here are all really friendly, knowledgable and truly care about their craft. Their quality of meat is amazing and because they are so helpful it is easy to try something new — they will tell you how to prepare it and cook it so it comes out perfectly. They also have an interesting array of condiments for purchase — my favorite is the Japanese mayo which is in a quepie (sp?) doll bottle! Delicious and hilarious

Maybe the butchered meats are what you should get here… We had a pork sandwich and a plain hot dog. Not enough meat to compete with the bread and the meat was unspectacular on both. The pork sandwich with collard greens and cheddar cheese was an ambitious attempt but it really, really didn’t work. Pricey for food we didn’t like…

Carnivore heaven! Super high quality, with tastes above and beyond so many other butchers throughout the country. Very clean shop. Great selection of meats, sausages, charcuterie (lamb pastrami, y’all!), bacon (dry-​aged bacon, people!!), stocks (including ramen broth!), entrees, sides, drinks, spices, rubs, sauces, et al. Even the option to have things vacuum-​sealed for you (at no additional charge).
And the best part: every customer seemed so happy to be there, and you could tell the regulars were faithful hopefuls that their favorite treat would be available.
The ONLY reason I can’t give a full 5-​stars is service.
As to not be misunderstood, the service is not bad. For NYC, it’s perfectly fine. And I came in 1.5 hours before closing, after what I’m sure was a very long day for them all.
Still, I come from Dutch/​Amish country. So, while I’m used to high quality and prices to match, I’m used to service that is always smiling, any time of day, which acts as that final seal to make the exorbitant pricing extra worthwhile.
The first Dixon butcher who looked my way just looked and acted annoyed. I was watching her throughout my visit, and she just had a gruff demeanor overall.
So I waited until I got the best of the three available butchers, who was obviously wiped out, but made a grand effort to be patient and accommodating as I pieced my order together. For a full 5-​star rating at this price (albeit completely acceptable for the quality!), I personally need the assurance that any butcher assisting me will be at this proper level of service.
Regardless, I’ll be back, including any special orders to be requested in advance, to continue giving patronage and word-​of-​mouth to an awesome 4.5-star NYC business. Great shop, and great hope that multiple return visits will prove this last customer service blip to be a rare happenstance.

Love the food that they serve. Got the sausage that they were selling for that day and it was wonderfully delicious, particularly for a hot-​dog lover like me. Nice to go upscale every one in a while!

I bought an amazing Guanciale from Dickson’s and I’m hooked. Their products are from locally/​ethically sourced farms. I make a special trip out from Brooklyn just for this. Well worth the money.

I don’t get here that often, so I get to see the store progress.
On my most recent visit, it was clear that they had upgraded their steak options, topping out with a $ 38/​lb. dry aged rib.
The short rib burgers were beautiful, but I plumped for the smaller lamb burgers, harder to find.
The long boned heritage chicken I purchased on my last visit did not seem to be on offer today, but the case was full of plump, more standard breeds.
I also went with merguez and poblano sausages on this most recent visit.
A pâté de campagne was pre-​sliced and plastic wrapped, but the wrap kept if fresher than a cut to order piece in deli paper, and it was excellent when we ate it several days later.
It doesn’t quite make my list of destination butcher shops, but well worth a stop if you are in the area. Call it a 4.3.

I used to cut through Chelsea Market on the way to work and passed by this meat shop every day.
Each morning, I’d have to ignore the intoxicating aroma of meat during my walk to work. I’d walk quickly on my way to grab my lame soup and salad.
But sometimes i’d give in.
A simple hot dog or the roast beef sandwich was to die for. Every once and a while, they would hand out samples and I’d gladly try it out for a satisfied topping.
I always wanted to take home one of the half chickens, but never had the chance. That’s now on my bucket list.

Great little meat shop, fantastic looking cuts of meat and all locally produced within 400 miles which is kind of cool. Hot dog was excellent with preserved chili and Kewpie Mayo — hard to stop at three!

Half chicken as my power meat lunch was the 2^nd best decision that I made today (after my gym class). The meat was tender, juicy, and tasty!

I went here with a Groupon to try it out.
They are located inside Chelsea market. Everyone working is quick and efficient with a pleasant attitude.
The Kansas strip (with bone) meat was tough but the sausages and dry aged steaks (no bone) have a very smooth and buttery texture.
They also teach ‘meat’ classes (how to make your own sausage, etc) which I thought was really cool!

Amazing meats, but especially the rotisserie whole chicken for take-​out. The chickens come from local farms that aren’t raised in massive chicken farms and without all the nasty hormones & antibiotics. Also love the hot dogs and don’t even like hot dogs that much, but they use natural casings and without nitrates & chemicals. Can’t go wrong at this place.

Perfect for a lunch special or quick bite, but not a replacement for your go-​to deli counter. Prices are high, but competitive when purchased in small bites.
For lunch, I tried a freshly prepared beef hot dog, with a side of bacon-​covered grilled brussels sprouts. The wait to receive both was long at the super-​busy lunch counter, but the dishes were worth it. The hot dog was a bit chewy but fresh, as Dickson clearly prepared and cooked the meat themselves. And, it seemed that everyone was ordering meat mac-​n-​cheese, which both looked and smelled amazing.
Service was friendly but the counter was busy. If you’re hoping to place a special order, I’d recommend visiting in off-​peak times after the lunch crowd is gone.

This is not the place to go if you’re looking for a cost effective butcher shop. This place charges high end prices for a high end product.
The meat sold by this place is amazing and the staff is great. They will answer any questions you have and guide you in preparing an amazing steak dinner.
If you don’t feel like grilling something up at home they have the best HOMEMADE all beef hot dogs you’ll ever have and a rotisserie chicken that will knock your socks off.
One of «must stop at» places in the market.

My sister signed me up for the Whole Hog Butchery for Charcuterie class here for Christmas and I’m very glad she did. When I walked in I saw the biggest hog I’ve ever seen split open on the table. The two guys who were running it were super friendly and knowledgeable. There was beer, wine, meats, cheese, and bread to snack on during the class. They first took us through all the different cuts of meat you’d normally see at a butcher as they broke down the first half. They then took us through some of the difference types of charcuterie that could be made as they broke down the second half. For 3 of the cuts they had a volunteer come and rub down the meat with seasonings. They also had examples of the final product for several types of charcuterie. At the end they gave us a pamphlet with some recipes and answered any questions.
I really enjoyed the class and am considering taking more. I also plan on shopping here for when I need good cuts of meat. They clearly know what they’re doing and everything looked to be great quality.

If a hipster and a butcher and a sandwich shop owner had a threesome and a baby was born from that night, Dickson’s Farmstand Meats would be that baby.
I, being a graphic designer, art director, and photographer, was visually pleasured from standing here taking in the well designed signages, to the typography, to the hanging chunks of actually meat hanging off of meat hooks and they were clean. Not a complete bloody mess like other butcher shops I’ve been to (mostly in rural India and NYC). And you don’t get that overwhelming scent of blood or meat in the air, nor do you get that sterile clean, industrial Clorox smell either. But I digress.
The shop/​restaurant is a narrow and rectangular in shape and structure and on one side (long side) are the displays of meats and cuts and the other length of side is a narrow high table with bar stools to eat from. It’s probably not recommended to eat in here because it does get crowded and there’re very limited seating.
I got the Spicy Italian Sandwich (per their recommendation) and it was divine. The meats were cured perfectly and the bread was toasted right just. The meats were flavored just right without being overly salty. Throw in a perfect pickle and you’re in sandwich nirvana. The size was decent (I honestly could’ve used more but then again, I was absolutely famished).
The service was friendly and helpful and understandably a little slow because of how busy it gets. Of course they were all hipsters.
The biggest sucky part of this whole location (Chelsea Markets) is the parking. What a bitch. If you’re from out of town or just driving through DT NY, then you’ll be paying $ 20+ for parking for 2 hours. There’s a parking lot across the alley. Don’t park on the street around the market because it’s only for cops and they will ticket/​tow your car.
I could see myself here again very soon making babies with this amazing shop.
