This was a bucket list visit checked off. To attend a straight-ahead jazz club in NYC while enjoying great dining. To the wood-paneled ambience of the room to the floor to ceiling glass picture windows view facing east towards Central Park 5 stories up was indeed ethereal. The prix-fixe menu for $ 72 for one included appetizer of chicken lollipops, hush puppies and gumbo. Entrée was grilled salmon, spinach, and grilled broccoli. All were done to perfection. A dessert of chocolate mousse was scrumptious. This one entrée was enough for me and my wife. All that, and unlimited sangria! To boot, our server, Angie, was helpful and very personable. The entertainment was the Mickey Bass Quintet. These guys were simply awesome. Total tab with tip was $ 178. To any jazz aficionado who’d like to experience great NYC jazz and sumptuous dining, I’d highly recommend Dizzy’s Coca-Cola Club.

My stipulation always for jazz club reviews is that I’m reviewing the venue, not the act. Dizzy’s is a great place to see jazz. The venue is modern, upscale, roomy, and comfortable. Windows look out over Columbus Circle and into Central Park. Though no beer on tap, bottle/can options were fine. Food was good(outstanding sweet potato fries). Get there early to line up if you want a good table. 3 stars for the food. 4 stars for the drinks. 5 stars for the venue. 4 stars over-all.

What’s not to love about this club? Late night jam sessions are the best deal in the city for jazz — it’s typically a bunch of students from Julliard playing the 11:15PM show, and it’s so fun to see them challenge one another on stage from a musical standpoint, while I munch on fries, drink libations, and watch regulars swing dance, all while overlooking gorgeous Columbus Circle.

We went here to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday because he is a big fan of jazz. We were floored by the amazing view of Central Park and the intimacy of the venue from the start. We were seated at a table in the front row and couldn’t be any closer to the performers. I would give Dizzy’s 5 stars for the music alone, but I didn’t love my drink or meal. The Cheddar Burger was bland and sweet potato fries were soggy. I understand the cost of food a drink is a premium due to location and live music, but I would return for only for a drink and a show instead of a full sit down meal since I wasn’t impressed. Our server was also very impresonal and spent minimal time servicing our table from start to finish. Overall, I’d return for the A+ music experience, but not the food.

I have never experienced worse service at a sit-down location. The staff were inattentive in the extreme. Orders for drinks etc. were met with looks of disgust for having inconvenienced the servers’ strolls around the club, as if providing the patrons with food and drink was not the reason they are employed. The entire staff was dismissive and rude, even when we tried at the bar rather than the table. Beyond this, the band for the night hushed the crowd aggressively and with condescension I’ve never seen from a jazz act. That can be excused, as the band are not under the club’s control. The staff, however, are.

What a wonderful experience at a modern jazz club with a gorgeous view! A few friends and I visited Dizzy’s to see The Ladybugs. We had reservations for the bar, but requested a table in case that freed up. That request was taken seriously, and after we were seated at the bar, the hostess came over and asked if we wanted to move to a free table. We actually declined because our view at the bar was better than the table she was offering, but I was pleased that she honored our request. The club itself is spacious, and a great size for live music. You don’t feel like you’re bumping elbows with your neighbors, but you also don’t have to strain to see or hear. Bar seating is actually pretty great. There are two bar areas, and both allow you to face the stage, with your back to the bar. The bar seats are also higher, allowing you to see over the heads of the people at the tables. The club is not super dim, and is very clean, although there are only 2 unisex bathrooms, which were in pretty good conditions. Lines can get long after sets, because there are only 2 bathrooms. The drinks were good, but not strong. There is a drink minimum and a cover charge, but both are lower if you’re a student, so bring your student ID! For our show, our cover was $ 20 and our drink minimum was $ 10. The service was great, although I would’ve preferred to not be interrupted during songs, and instead, have our server ask if I needed anything during song changes, but that’s just me being a snob. The average age in the room was probably around 40, and it was a mix of people who understood jazz culture as well as people who were there to casually enjoy. It’s unlike other jazz bars that are noisy with conversations with a dash of live jazz on the side. I think people come to Dizzy’s specifically to see/hear the performance, and less to socialize with each other. I enjoyed the venue and the performance tremendously and will definitely return!

We’d booked the 9:30pm show for our 1st night in NYC& it was a nice welcome to our weekend getaway. Showed up around 8:30pm & were directed to a line for ticket-holders. They do not allow people to reserve their seats before the show — it’s first come, first served… which means the sooner you get there to stand in the line, the better your seat will be Also good to note that all the 2-top tables are in the FRONTROW. If you want to sit further back, you’ll be sharing a table. The Mr & I didn’t want to share(we’re selfish like that) so we suffered the front row Drinks were expected — expensive & watered-down. I chose a basil-rum somethingorother & the Mr chose a vodka – thyme-lemonade but we ended up swapping as his was too sweet & mine was too bitter…& we preferred each other’s choice The food on the other hand was all kinds of good — the Fried Green Tomatoes were outstanding! Tender tomatoes & lightly breaded coating w/a sweet & spicy sauce & pickled cabbage to go on top… wished we had ordered 2 of these! Mac n Cheese was creamy & the thick bechamel was nicely flavored — good cheese representation & for a sidedish, this was huge & more than adequate as a main — I gave half of mine to the Mr & was still stuffed! The Cornbread Madeleines we paired w/the mac n cheese were like a light, airy poundcake-like thing. I was hoping for more of a hushpuppy-like consistency. We left over half of these behind Beignets were totally small but by that point, we were full & thankful for the mini-portion The music was on par for the soldout evening & the crowd seemed to really appreciate the percussion legend who was Louis Hayes The place reminded me of a Yoshi’s in the Bay Area but with much better food!

My BFF is a big fan of Jazz at Lincoln Center, so she insisted on coming here. I had no objections since I love live music. The night we wanted to stop by, we had a couple options for walk-ins due to timing(we arrived around 7PM). Fortunately, we were able to get fabulous seats for«Kim Nalley Sings Songs of Love» for Valentine’s Day weekend. Our seats were at a table, which was already great, but it was also in the front! Kim Nalley, jazz and blues singer, is faaaaabulous! She has a wonderful voice and I love her style. The accompanying musicians, pianist Tammy Hall, guitarist Greg Skaff, bassist Ray Drummond, and drummer Alvin Atkinson were equally fantastic. This was such a treat! We didn’t partake in food, but we did get a couple drinks. I went with a refreshing specialty cocktail: A New Day($ 15) with fresh-squeezed blood orange, elderflower liqueur, and Prosecco. Great experience!

Came here for the late(11:30 pm) set on a Wednesday night. Luckily they were still selling some food from a late night menu. We had the fried green tomatoes(awful) and chicken lollipops(pretty good). However I was not impressed with the music. Having a trained ear for music I know real artistry when I hear it. The band played mostly standards and it just was not energetic or impressive. Straight from the sheet music. Additionally, there were tons of solos. It was almost like the members had never played together before. The ambiance was beautiful. One of the nicest spots I’ve been to in NYC. I would return just for the setting. However, I’ll stick to Smoke, Birdland, The Blue Note, or Bill’s Place for impressive instrumentalist.

Wonderful venue very modern and minimal wood interior. The stage is located at window and the backdrop is Central Park./ Columbus circle a classic NYC — view. We saw a jazz band with pretty young musicians which some of them may need a little more practice, — the blues is in your blood you cannot learn it… — We still enjoyed ourselves, we were late and didn’t pay entrance fee… Which helped. Service was friendly and efficient and I would revisit— not my favourite places as I love the gritty ancient basement blues /jazz clubs and a real NY vibe — Dizzy is naturally touristy — the location can’t help it – and misses the authentic NYC Jazz club atmosphere — . I highly recommend it for everyone who loves Jazz and Blues wouldn’t want to visit the Harlem.

Beautiful view of the park and Columbus Circle. Lovely ambience and the music is great. We listened to Javon Jackson and he and his group were brilliant, especially the drummer. Food is pretty good too: the burger that I had was amazingly juicy and tender, the carrot cake I ate was a bit too sweet, but the frosting was great.

I have to give this a 5 for the total package. Tonight was the Rahsaan Roland 80th birthday celebration brought to us by the Steve Turre Sextet — and let me tell you– if I’m that cool when I’m 80(Rahsaan, not Steve and company ;), watch out! The Jazz was *off* *the* *hook*. The band pulled out all the stops including playing sea shells. I’m still in shell shock. Food was described as southern style with NY flair and it didn’t disappoint. We got the 4 course pre fixe menu — starting with fried green tomatoes. There’s a reason there’s a movie called that, friends. Done right, they are a treat. And Dizzy’s didn’t disappoint. Josh– our server– was superlative. Perfect balance of being there when you needed him, but not when you didn’t. Again, though, it all came down to world class entertainment. Jazz at its best!

Attended the 9:30 show last night and it was Marvelous! The view of the city from behind the stage was amazing and made the ambiance of an amazing venue even greater. The food was tasty and the menu had great selections! The drinks were good too! Great place for a date night! Its something about sitting at a table with your significant other listening to great jazz musicians play while taking in a great view of the city and eating a good meal paired with wine. Tip: Make sure you make reservations because altho we had reservations the line for those on standby was kind of long. Also, plan to arrive 30 minutes before the show to get the best seats.

My exposure to jazz has been very limited, unless you count the Miles Davis CDs(yes, CDs) that my parents used to blast in our living room. Still, I was amped to have a reservation for Dizzy’s to see the William Paterson University Ensembles & Orchestra! Reservations: We called a couple days in advance to put our names on the list($ 15 for students, $ 30 otherwise.) Line up by 9pm for the 9:30 show. We arrived at about 9:15& snagged the last close-to-the-stage table. Seating: Bar seating around the perimeter of the room, tables for 2 – 4 dotting the floor. Food & Drink: There was a $ 10 per person minimum the night we went, which we quickly exceeded by ordering one drink each(hers was herbaceous & delicious, mine had apricot preserves & vodka!) & by sharing fried okra/portobello mushrooms(4.5 stars) & the fried chicken plate with mashed potatoes & collard greens(4.5 stars, as well.) Amazing performers, creative drinks, & yummy comfort food aren’t even the main reasons to come to Dizzy’s — the view of(the edge of) Central Park from the 5th floor of the Time Warner Center is the background for all this entertainment, & it is breathtaking.

Beautiful and elegant venue for jazz. The setting overlooking floor to ceiling windows. About 20 tables and 20 bar seats. There’s a full menu and bar. I ordered a hamburger that came w. fries, $ 16. Not bad, except it came out completely raw. After rectifying, I enjoyed my dinner while grooving to some very cool jazz. Loved the ambiance。wonderful place for a date!

In town for the Thanksgiving Day parade and kinda stumbled upon Dizzy’s as we strolled the avenue the night before the parade. We didn’t have a reservation(recommended) but we were able to get in on standby. We were the last on the standby list but ended up getting a table right next to the stage! Wycliffe Gordon(trombonist) and his band were the artist this evening. They were fantastic. Cover: $ 40pp. $ 25 for students with ID. Dress code: We just had on jeans and sweaters since this wasn’t a planned stop. Most folks had the same on but some were dresses up for date night. Ambiance: Great. Low lights and nice interior. Seating: Tables and bar seating. A party of two may be seated with another party of 2. Depends on how it plays out. Food: Pretty good. We had the crab cakes and the fried chicken. Drinks: Large selection. Crowd: Great interaction with the band. Acoustic: Great! The music didn’t overwhelm you or drown out the occasional signing. It was perfect. Bill. $ 200! Only complaint was the $ 80 cover was rolled into the bill. We only tipped on the food and drink service. If I bought the tickets online I wouldn’t pay a 20% tip on them. (Am I cheap for that? So… the tip would have be $ 36 if I did with the cover included…) Enjoy!

It was a pleasure to go see New Orlean’s jazz pianist Ellis Marsalis, for his 80th Birthday Celebration. Dizzy’s room is beautiful designed and acoustics are great. There is a wall of windows behind the stage that look out over Central Park. I would have liked for the MC to have announced for everyone to be quiet during the performance prior to the show starting. The table next to us wouldn’t shut up. Even though i shushed them and told them to be quiet, they wouldn’t stop talking during the entire show. The cocktails were good and service was fine. Didn’t try the food but the couple sitting at our table said the food was just ok, so I don’t think we missed anything there.

Kool with a capital K! This hidden gem is in the Time Warner Mall on Columbus(5th floor) Nice sized intimate room /bar with sitdown tables for dining as well. We had some great food and drinks and the music was FANTASTIC. The crowd was very mixed but all had a great time. Check this place out!

So I loved the live Jazz, that was pretty amazing. I also was a BIG fan of the view and the space… both were pretty mind blowing… I mean having a Jazz band with living and breathing Manhattan as a backdrop is pretty important. What I hated was the service, in particular my server Ellen. She got my drink order wrong, didn’t come back to get my food order until we were well into the third song of the evening, brought me the WRONG amount on my check… and that was just me. She also spilled a drink on the couple in front of me and MISSED a complete drink order for the gentlemen next to me. Like any responsible person, I asked the Manager about his server and about possibly switching her up and he said… and I quote «I have every confidence that she will be able to properly take care of you» this was before I got my food, which was pretty good… but completely tarnished and ruined by the fact that their server was incompetent. I still tipped her well, not because she deserved it but because My father taught me well So my suggestion? go see the jazz and enjoy the scenery!
