Most of the Duane Reade I have been to have been good to me, its your usual drugstore experience in a clean and organized environment. Would be a 4 star except that yesterday afternoon the manager(I’m assuming because all the other staff are in polos while this guy is in a crispy white shirt) was kind of being a d-bag. —– I saw him coming out of the door and we made eye contact, I opened my mouth to say something but when he saw me looking at him and wanting to ask a question(I looked for floor clerks first but failed) he turned around and headed back to the door. When he turned around, 2 clerks in polo came out too. The manager once again turned around and resumed his original track facing me, which I happened to be standing at the same place. «Hi I have a question». Big smile. «Yes, how may I help you?» Forced smile and his eyes was already looking away. «Do you have hot bottled water? You know when…» «We have bottled water over there» He looks beyond me and points his hands to my left. «No, I don’t mean the drinking kind. The rubber bottle you put hot water in when you are…» «We don’t have it…» He turned and left. «Oh I think we have it!» Said one of the two clerks in polo that followed the manager out, who were standing near us and overheard our conversation. They run off in search for my request. «You know what I meant? I’m sorry I don’t know what it is called.» «Yeah I know what you meant». They found the item and gave it to me. —– You don’t need a MBA to realize that what happened was lame. Sure, a manager don’t itemize the floor and don’t have to assist a customer but when the latter is encountered, you can redirect me to the right source which are the clerks that were standing near us. —– I have seen the manager of the DR on 2nd ave. near the 34st, stepping down to do cashier duty when the line was suddenly getting long and the two cashiers wasn’t cutting it. Kudos to him.
