Dylan’s Candy Bar Pop-Up Store

This pop-​up store is terrible! I walked in and was immediately underwhelmed for a few reasons:
1 — the store seemed a bi dirty/​dingy
2 — the selection was very limited
3 — it did not have the same grandeur as the real Dylan’s Candy Bar does
The store is truely a pop up store in that, the walls are not decorated to the extent of the real Dylan’s and it looks like they just put up some decorates and brought some merchandise into a warehouse.
The full store is not that far away, I would recommend spending the time you would spend at the pop-​up store and walk to store on 63^rd Street.

Stay awayyy. Stay far away. My niece wanted to go here– we thought it would have been a bigger/​better Dylan’s closer to where we were. Wrong! She was smart enough to tell me later why this place was such a disaster on the inside — it is a pop up store. Ah, more ways to make $$! Couldn’t even look at the selection it was so crowded, disorganized and a mess in there. Like an unfinished warehouse… The floors, walls, ceilings. Wouldn’t be surprised if there were wires hanging about.
Total shame they would open something in such disarray up just to make money at the holiday time being across from Bryant Park.

I have to agree with many other reviewers… I’m a New Yorker and had never visited the «real» Dylan’s Candy Bar, so when I saw the new shop today, my kids begged me to take them in… This is a most pathetic excuse for a candy store… The «decorations» were dusty from nightly work going on and the best part– we almost bought expired candy in a brand new store. It was gross and I will not be returning, to either the Pop-​Up store or the «real» one.

It’s a cute store with some interesting candy options. I really liked the gingerbread house and the decorations they had there for the holidays. If you are in the area and have some time to kill, not a bad place to take a walk around :)

As another reviewer wrote, this is a pop-​up store, so I don’t know what people were expecting. Yes, it’s cramped. No, there isn’t much of a selection. And whoever tiled the floor could have done a better job. Those caveats aside, my primary goal upon entering this particular Dylan’s was to purchase a Christmas present for my youngest niece.
Seeing as how I found a pretty good gift at a relatively reasonable price, I saw it as a success. I didn’t eat any cake or candy while I was in line, so I can’t comment upon the quality of their junk food, but the staff was friendly and swift so I don’t have much to complain about. Nothing fancy, but it gets the job done. At least, in my case.

This place is an embarrassment. Dylan Lauren should be ashamed to have opened up this dump of a facility.
Looks like they put all of their money into the window treatment. I was shocked when I walked in and saw that the uneven cement floors. I had heard that they would be selling Sprinkles cupcakes, so I was thinking about getting one. But, there’s no seating and the cupcakes are being distributed from a cart.
Overall, this place feels unsafe and like it was opened before the electricians and carpenters showed up.
Tourists — I’m pretty sure that the Hershey’s store and M&M’s shop are just a few blocks over in Time Sq. so I definitely wouldn’t bother including this dump on your itinerary.

Our friends and I didn’t have time to make it out to the actual store, but just happened to walk by this pop-​up store and decided to check it out.
It was fine, but with the bare floors and mostly plain walls, I didn’t get the «kid-​in-​a-​candy-​store» feeling like I would have liked, from walking in.
They did have a nice selection of candies and chocolates though, so I did walk out with a bag of candy and their gingerbread house display was cute.
Next time I visit NYC, I’m going to have to find the actual Dylan’s Candy Store.

I’m sorry, but I know they could have done better. Prime location, great foot traffic, and THIS is what they give us? Bare concrete floors and a few oversized candy characters?
The store on the East Side has a ridiculous mark-​up because it feels like a fun, over-​the-​top experience. This, however, feels like someone’s garage – but the prices are still sky-​high for the same mid-​level quality.
One star for filling an empty Midtown storefront; the other for the unexpected section of holiday dog treats.

Well, after a 5 days of fun in Manhattan, we had been promising the girls a visit to the «worlds largest candy store». Why? Sounded like fun for a 4 and 6 year old, and it was right across the street staring at us every day. So Sydney and the girls headed over while I finished some shopping in Bryant park. I met them there about 20 – 30 mins later. Granted it’s the holidays, but I seriously couldn’t believe the crowds inside the place. I looked around to see what all the fuss was about, and yes there was candy all over, but it was very unorganized and the interior looked like a Ross department store, or a dollar store that was converted to a temporary candy selling joint. It almost reminded me of those Spirit Halloween stores that they set up all over the place around Halloween. Sydney designs many different types of high end retail stores and she was pretty much rolling her eyes at this setup. It was looking like it was under construction or something. So much for the décor, so what about the goods? Well, there was no rhyme or reason to the store layout, but there WAS candy everywhere. Many kinds. I even saw a bin of Twix bars, displayed like they bought all of the old point of sale stock that Circuit City must have dumped when they went out of business. There was also a gingerbread house set up for the holidays. Magical? Not. It was really sad looking. OK, so still– the CROWDS, right? So what could it be??? Must be a great DEAL since they aren’t splurging on anything else. So the girls has selected each a small plastic organizer, the type you would put cheap jewelry in, and filled several of the compartments with hard candy, smarties etc. The also bought a candy stick each, and a couple of 2 inch lollipops for their best friends. So this is when it got interesting… our airport limo was meeting us in 30 mins, and Sydney wanted to run across the street to the library to show the girls, so I volunteered to pay while she went over there. I got in this LONG maze line waiting to be dazzled by the amazing deal we were about to get for the 2 very tiny bags of candy, when I was hit up for buying a book about the history of the store from a sales person who said that Dylan herself was signing books today. Hilarious, since who would actually write a book about this place, and funnier still– who would actually read one. However, when I looked around, there was Dylan and one of her «advisers» or an agent or something. I overheard their conversation criticizing the lady selling books– that she wasn’t holding the book right, and that they wanted her to hold the book open instead of showing the cover… so funny. SO Dylan and her agent went over and coached the book selling lady on the proper way to hold the book, and the lady walked away muttering something that would have probably gotten her fired. Pretty damn hilarious. Dylan was kind enough to let some people take her picture, and believe it or not some people actually wanted to. OK– so enough of the line entertainment. Finally I got to the promised land, and like the flea market, since I was paying by credit card, I was shuffled off to another separate line for those of us who actually have the misfortune to not be carrying cash. The checkers were so unorganized I had to laugh. They kept putting my candy on someone else’s scale, and then arguing about who’s candy was who’s. SO FUNNY. So, I looked at what I had estimated to be approximately 12 – 15 dollars worth of stuff, and 57 DOLLARS later, was shaking my head in disgust… the American dream gone mad– billionaire selling candy on 5^th avenue in a dollar store to suckers for 4−5X its worth. SO, did I stand by principal and leave without my candy? No… I bought it. I don’t know what came over me. I guess that’s why Dylan is the one signing the books!

I haven’t been to the other Dylan’s so I don’t have any basis for comparison.
My friend (out-​of-​town) and I stumbled across this shop on our Manhattan walk so we went in since, haha, I’ve never been to one and he has.
It was CUTE. I had a lot of fun looking at the displays and gawking at the different varieties of candy and store displays. Especially loved the penguin holding up the snowman in front of the gingerbread house (although I’m pretty sure that’s not the image the store intended to give… or is it…). The trees and gingerbread house displays were fun as was the hannukah display. Everything else was pure bonus.

I don’t agree with reviewing this as a «store», it’s a pop up, of course it’s not going to be as nice as the flagship.
For me, it this was convenient, I live on the UWS and rarely find myself on the east side, which meant, I’ve never been able to try dylan’s and had been curious about it for a while.
I’m giving this 3 stars because the service was incredible. Maybe those employees ate alot of candy and are on serious sugar highs, or they just actually (gasp!) ENJOY helping people. Either way, it made my visit pleasant and made me do more than just walk in and walk out. I actually shopped and ending up with fudge, 4 candy bars and a bag of chocolate caramel popcorn for christmas presents. oh and same chocolate covered pretzels for myself :)
The chocolate is ok, it’s nothing super special, (there are many better chocolate options in the city) BUT i love the cute pacakaging, the creative flavors of the candy bars (red velvet, smores, tiramisu, malted milk) those make for great stocking stuffers! i sampled some of the fudge, it’s ok, if your going to buy some the salted nut fudge is crazy delicious… it’s like the inside of a payday candy bar!
It’s a bit expensive also, the same price as much higher quality chocolates for the same amount… but i guess you can do that when your Ralph Lauren’s daughter !
Go here for a few cute stocking stuffers or the nostalgic chocolate you don’t see everywhere.

Still as overpriced as the other store but much smaller (guess that’s why it’s a «pop-​up» store). Not as crowded as I would have expected but definitely not as nice as the main location.

Honestly, I was rather disappointed.
Absolutely nothing like their other store. In and out in less than 2 minutes.
Didn’t want to waste our time.
It’s like they boxed up a bunch of their merchandise from their other store and threw it on some shelves of this empty building. If you’ve ever been to a «Spirit Halloween» store before, this is a candy type version.
