Extremely average food here. I ordered chicken and mushroom dumplings and they were the best part of the meal. Nice texture and PACKED with meat, if you like that kind of thing. They are definitely not stingy with their dumpling fillings here. My tropical salad was a great deal – 5 bucks seemed like a great price for a deep bowl jammed with salad fixings. But the ginger dressing was very watery and the pineapple and mandarins were clearly canned. Not bad by any means, and a good value, but certainly nothing to write home about. I also had a dumpling soup. Extremely bland, watery broth. Very unmemorable. Decent prices, but overall, you can do better.

Decent dumplings and Chinese-style ‘bulgogi,’ very casual, Asian comfort food. Nothing too memorable, but for sure better than your average Chinese take-out place. Seems like they are pretty busy with take-out/delivery orders, there was actually a whole table piled with paper bags of food waiting to be picked up/delivered — something I’ve never seen before at any sit-down restaurant. The bubble tea isn’t bad, either!

Wonderful, homemade«Chinatown» Dumplings right here on the Upper Westside! On par with the best dumpling-holes in Chinatown. Pork & Chive are classic — have them fried or steamed, make sure to dip in special dumpling vinegar. Vegetable dumplings are also great. My husband is Chinese and we love this cozy, authentic neighborhood gem!

Awesome dumplings. If you can’t appreciate it you’re probably not Asian. Understandably too, dumplings here retain their Asian heritage and taste without turning in into some American variant of Asian food! Had the Pork and Chives dumplings as well as a Prawn Dumplings Noodles soup. Great texture, fillings were substantial, noodles had a good tangy quality, soup was clear and tasty not too much MSG. Definitely coming back here!

All right. Let me break this down for you. I got the chicken curry over rice for $ 9, which was pretty average; while my girlfriend got the bulgogi noodle soup, which was pretty good. You should come here to get full from some fast Chinese food /dumplings. Some of the other reviews mentioned some pretty gross health issues, so beware, although I didn’t run into any of them. Quality 3⁄5 — don’t come here for fancy or well executed food Taste 4⁄5 — surprisingly, despite the fact that the food is not as fresh and the texture is so-so, the taste is pretty good. I don’t know if it’s just great marinade /sauce /lots of MSG /or what, but it tastes pretty all right. Price 4⁄5 — they do you justice here with the price for your average food quality. Everything is kinda $ 5-$ 15, with most things right around the $ 10 range. Quantity 5⁄5 — if there’s one thing they do right, they hit you with great portion sizes. Yes, plenty of rice, but they also give you plenty of the real dish as well. Recommendations? Go for the bulgogi or dumplings. The Shanghai wonton soup is also not bad. Double check the food just to make sure it looks good — just in case — there are a few decent dishes here.

I finally found a dumpling house! I ordered pan-fried dumplings and some scallion pancakes. I was with friends, so I wasn’t able to notice how quickly the service was, but we didn’t wait too long. All of us were pretty hungry after work, so maybe we had poor perceptions to begin with. The scallion pancakes tasted fine, but were oily and completely soft(I like them to be just a little crunchy). As for the dumplings, I had the vegetable ones pan fried. The dumpling tasted on par to the frozen ones in food markets or what my parents use to make at home. The pan frying technique was pretty good since the bottom was crispy but not hard. They also sell frozen ones for take out, so I’ll definitely be trying that though.

Poor service. The woman on the phone is really rude. Plus, the food delivered was wrong! she did not apologize at all when I called back.

We have ordered delivery from here a few times. Most recently, I tried the pork and cabbage dumplings in soup. YUM. It was nice to try something different than the normal pork and chive. They offer a bunch of different dumplings and I like that. The soup came with the broth separate from the fillings(noodles, veggies). I liked that. I was able to mix it all up to my liking. The scallion pancakes are extremely greasy but good. You can’t really eat the whole thing though because of the grease. Delivery is usually pretty fast considering we live pretty far away.

Great dumplings. I had the pork chives and the chicken corn. Both pan fried. The dumpling sauce with the hot sauce was excellent. It’s a hole in the wall spot. The Russian waitress was really sweet. I had two orders by myself. It was a bit much. i wanted to try the scallion pancakes. That was what the waitress reco’ed. But i decided I couldnt eat all that. Will definitely try it next time. Ive had the steamed and the pan fried both. The only difference i feel is that the bottom of the dumpling is crispy.

Some how my original review was deleted. Nice one Unilocal.Which is why I can’t really trust this site anymore. But this place had a severe case of fruit flies when I dined there(see pics). Fruit flies equals an unsanitary kitchen. Eat at your own risk.

The dumpling wrapper is a little bit thick and chewy, but i like it(except they makes u sooooo full). The stuff is quite food, especially the pork and shrimp ones. Fish ball soup is kinda pricy since they don’t really have fish inside, just a ball of flour. The different flavors of milk tea is truly chinese, with lots of sugar and little milk. Anyway this is what we drink in China, a lot.

I wish this place was called East Bulgogi House. We tried this place on a whim, coming across the restaurant during some random Apple Maps search for something in the area. My boyfriend is always on the lookout for the perfect dumpling, so off we went. It’s a cute little place *just* off Broadway, decorated nicely with some Asian pop music playing softly in the background. The server was very kind, though it was late on a slow night & we had to try to get her attention a few times. He ordered the Shanghai Wonton soup(8 pieces), I ordered Bulgogi over Rice, and we decided to share the steamed Assorted Dumplings. The Bulgogi was amazing! The beef was perfectly cooked, and it was tossed with mushrooms & onions. So delicious. I wish there was a little more meat included, but I could seriously eat that plate every day. And judging by how quickly it disappeared, the Shanghai Wonton soup was just as good. He was a little thrown off by the seaweed included with it — and I think he avoided it — but otherwise he was very happy with his soup. I liked a few of the dumplings. There was one with corn that I liked, and overall I liked the pork ones more than the veggie or shrimp ones. But in general, we both agreed that our meals were better than the dumplings. I will definitely be returning for the Bulgogi. The dumplings? Ehh. Take it or leave it. _____________ PS: We asked, and I believe their delivery radius is between 85th and 125th.

Did their dumplings get bigger? I haven’t ordered from them in a while(the last time was when they first opened) but it seems like they’re larger now. Oh well, just an observation. I can’t attest to whether their food or service has improved over the years but the last order was delivered pretty promptly and the dumplings were decent(though not outstanding). Good value for the price.

The Pork and chive dumplings and the Veggie dumplings were not as plump as I anticipated. Still good though. The dipping sauce spilled in the takeout container. Didn’t really need it. They were pulverized! Next time I will not not forget the Chili Sauce!

This place has delicious food – dumplings and otherwise! It’s the kind of menu(and prices) that you’d see in Flushing, but conveniently for the lazier among us, it’s right here on the Upper West Side. Having been here about five times now(it’s become a favorite Sunday dinner spot for me and some grad school friends), I’ve made every effort to try as much of the menu as humanly possible, as have some of my dining companions. Current appetizer favorites are the steamed pork and chive dumplings(delicious dipping sauce as well) and the pork and shrimp ones, though all the dumpling varieties have been tasty! My favorite entrée is the curried beef noodle soup – the noodles have the perfect flavor and texture. Bottom line: HIghly recommended for dinner! Great value, decent service, and delicious food. P. S. A friend of mine found this place on Unilocal,so I must give credit where credit is due!

Good dumplings — but there are land mines to avoid. All the noodle soups are pathetic, noodles are worse than unfresh dry noodles: they are fresh noodles that got frozen and were not thawed properly. So you get that gross starchy, disintegrating taste in your mouth. That said the dumplings are A-OK. You can probably make similar quality ones at home too, but here the standard is different because, well, it’s difficult to make a batch of dumplings. It’s a unique place on the west side, it’s really the most Chinese place in a 20 block radius(random American Chinese takeout joints not included, natch), but quality wise it’s not much better than a Quickly that’s been modified to serve fresh dumplings. They don’t seem like they are doing well with eat-in customers but they seem to service a lot of takeout orders. Typical NY I guess, everyone’s too lazy to leave the house :)

3.5 stars Living on the UWS leaves you with fewer Asian food options, especially places with good dumplings. Most ordinary chinese restaurants, the dumplings are pretty mediocre. East Dumpling House has fixed that problem, for the most part. The place is pretty small, about 12 tables, but has a little bit of charm. With a few pictures on the wall of their dishes on one side and random masks in cases on the other. I opted for take-out rather than delivery to ensure my dumplings optimal freshness. I went with an order of pork and chive(8) and vegetables dumplings(12) as well as a fish ball soup. The dumplings get 4 stars but the soup a mediocre 2. Most things I read said that the soup and dumpings are the only thing to get here, but I think that unless another soup is good, ill stick to ONLY dumplings. If you have a huge craving, you can buy 50 of them frozen for $ 20, not a bad deal. Overall, a nice place for the neighborhood.

Dumplings dumplings everywhere and not a dumpling to eat… oh wait. You CAN eat all of the dumplings! East Dumpling House offers some rather large dumplings to choose from in all different flavors. I decided to go the classic route and tried the pork and chives. The filling is good, but nothing special. What makes these dumplings really stand out is that they pack in as much filling as they can with these babies. They are much larger than one might expect, but not so large that the dumplings break when you pick them up. They also offer bags of frozen dumplings for $ 20 that you can take home and steam or fry yourself. I’ll probably do that sometime so that I can make myself some quick snacks. The chicken curry that I ordered was average. It reminded me of the Golden Curry packets that I use to make curry at home. Nothing special, but it hits the spot if you’re craving that Japanese curry flavor. A lot of the clientele seem to be regulars as the waitress was calling everyone who walked in by name. I kind of like that. I’ll probably be back when I get hit by the craving fairy and am too lazy to head all the way to Chinatown alone. They deliver too, so I can be ULTRA lazy about it. Yay! —– Credit card is a $ 10 minimum — something to keep in mind.
