East Village Postal

I went here today to get my passport picture taken. They were fast, polite and professional. The whole thing took about 5 minutes and was very pleasant.

I don’t know why anyone would go to a Staples, Kinkos, etc… when you can support a small business like My Little Village.
I have no idea what their lease looks like, but they must be an old timey face on the avenue. This space would command some serious loot if it were to change hands and become a frozen yogurt joint, but for now it’s my go-​to stop for all things related to sending mail. Their rates on FedEx and UPS are as competitive as they come, the staff is super friendly, and if you’re in need a PO box, they have great deals on them. They also have a respectable selection of office supplies. Nobody writes with anything but the tips of their thumbs anymore, but if you need to physically write out a check or something, they’ve got you covered.
They also do passport photos for as inexpensive as I’ve seen. Traveling aboard and live in East Village? Might want to hit them up.

Terrible!
I was sending a package to a client and I specifically asked for a signature upon delivery. The associate and I had a huge discussion on why signature delivery was important in the neighborhood I was sending the package to and the guy even took the time to explain that if no one was at the location, FedEx would leave a note saying when they’re retrying, etc. In the end, THEY NEVER DID IT!
Luckily the package made it to the person but it was awkward having to ask, thus why I wanted a signature. Plus I didn’t want it to get stolen. Very annoying.

need to GO POSTAL? come here. not that kinda POSTAL. this oasis of «send/​deliver/​mail/​dropoff» will save you the headaches from the insane lines at all East Village post offices, avoiding the complete identity confusion at FedEx/Kinko’s/whatevertheyarecallednow and bypassing you outta BrownTown aka UPS.
need to ship something via USPS, UPS, FedEx? My Little Village Postal Store is a family-​run store that solves your sending needs (that don’t involve «hit send») of actual involve physical items. on the real, why do they call it shipping – nearly everything domestic & international is via truck and wings. hmmm, but i digress.
you can get your FedEx, USPS, and postal supplies here. the branded ones are free as long as you do your «sending» here, I think. the boxes, tape, packing, etc. stuff is sold here and is on the pricier side. (PRO TIP: Come prepared with the package. WAIT that’s what she said!!!) In all seriousness, if you’re in a bind and need packing materials… you can find what you need here. It will cost you though.
the store is actually pretty big. left and right side walls are lined with various gratis and priced packing materials: boxes, tape, packing peanuts, bubble wrap, envelopes, etc.
they also have stationery items: pens, greeting cards, gift bags, etc. pretty eclectic lineup of merchandise, but it all makes sense AND the store is not super messy or anything. past the counter/​register in the middle of the store on the left… there are private mailboxes etc. to rent if you are celebrity, small business, have mail security issues in your building, or are simply a creeper who needs postal privacy. also set up in the back is an area to get passport photos.
anyway i ship UPS and FedEx outta here for personal stuff and have never had an issue. the staff is great at trying to find you the cheapest way of sending stuff if you ask questions. using one type of service versus and other can save you dough, yo! they saved me like $ 30 when i had to overnight a gift domestically.
the staff here can be chilly. however i think that’s more of a personality thing, not because they are jerks. i’ve found them fairly helpful. however they are about their bottom line, so don’t expect to get a high-​five and hug if you are dropping off prelabelled and prepaid items as i don’t think think they make money for being a pickup location.
honestly could i price compare and go to the post office, FedEx, UPS, etc. and save a few dollars? sure. however i do like supporting local businesses when it makes sense for both me and the biz. having a mom-​and-​pop store that ships your packages is a throwback to the 80s and 90s… however they have gotten me out of many last-​minute birthday gifts, holiday, etc. snafus in under 5 minutes. whereas i know i’d be on line forever at the post office or be completely confused and ripped off by the private carriers choice of delivery options. this lil store provides a value service to neighborhoodlums like myself!

Great place, seems to be family owned and operated. Friendly and helpful. Perfect for those in the neighborhood who don’t have a doorman to get their packages, or those who are just tired of the endless waits and delivery problems with the 14^th St. post office.

They were really courteous, flexible, and accommodating to my schedule even though I had multiple large boxes to ship. They always knew to look for the cheaper rate and were very speedy with their services. And lastly, they have free package pick-​up. Cant get better than that!

For shipping this place is fine, but don’t buy other supplies like stamps from them. They definitely overcharge.

The service here is excellent. I’ve used them twice to compliment my move to CA, and they’ve been extremely helpful!!! I highly recomended them.

Very convenient! Save a lot of my time. Love their mail forwarding service. Many options to ship such as fedex, ups, even u. s postal service. I don’t have to wait on line at the post office anymore!

Life-​changing… Travelling often & all over the place schedules turned receiving anything into weeks — waiting around, taping soon-​to-​be-​ignored pleads to FedEx on the front door, bargaining with neighbors, nightmares of lost package slips, returned-​to-​sender parcels, not to mention the million hours guzzled by the post office missed delivery line (and its one-​eyed, five-​thumbed, slow-​motioned attendant)… These guys changed everything, have great hours, great price and very sweet to boot… Go there now & watch one long strand of headaches melt away…

I’ve been using this as my mailbox for at least 20 years and never had a problem until this year, when two fairly pricey jewelry items went missing even though the Post Office claimed they had been delivered. Also a birthday card with cash in it. Not pointing blame — things go missing all the time — but I’m just saying. Apart from that, the service is knowledgeable and efficient, for the most part, and it saves bundles of time otherwise spent going to the hell that is Cooper Square Post Office.

I trekked around this area of town trying to find a shipping place that would allow me to avoid the post office. Other places were shady, and the one I found to be the least shady didn’t offer delivery confirmation.
When I gave up, I found Little Village Postal. I walked in, was immediately attended to, found out they offered delivery confirmation, and he had me happily out the door in less than two minutes.
The store is quite large for the area. It was neat. And there seemed to be a lot of regulars coming in and out.

I’ve used this place a bunch of times, but never again. I’m just going to lay out my problems with this place pretty simply:
1) When you are an authorized FedEx shipping station, you should not be charging for the free materials that FedEx gives out. You, as a shipping station, get these for free and the customer can get these for free as well at any FedEx drop location or shipping center. So don’t ask customers of your store for 50 cents to take a free FedEx envelope and not expect a fight.
2) You should be consistent in your rules. Don’t offer the FedEx envelopes for free one day, charge the next day, then tell people they can’t take them out of the store because you’re afraid they won’t do their shipping with you the next. Just stick to one thing.
3) You, as a FedEx shipping station, should not charge a fee for customers who are dropping off a prepaid FexEx shipment.
The last one got me the most. I have a FedEx account and ship things frequently and NEVER has a shipping center charged me to leave a package with them for pickup. That’s just not how it works. They literally have to do NOTHING with the package. The customer does all the work, brings it into the store and leaves it in a pile. Whenever I used to come here, I was never charged a fee for leaving packages with them to be picked up by FedEx, just as it is at every other shipping center. The last time I came in here, I asked the guy at the counter where I could drop my boxes just like I had many times before, and he told me that there was a $ 3 fee for dropping a box. So, I got the lucky opportunity to pay $ 12 to simply put some packages in a pile. I had already paid to ship them through FedEx online. I shouldn’t have to pay twice to ship a package.
I don’t know if this was a recently implemented policy or if I just looked stupid, but I definitely am not going to do anything with them again.

Horrible. NEVER go here. Shipped a package out of this location to Port Washington, New York and my client never received the package. I went back to find out what happened after 2 weeks and asked for my money back. They sent me to the post office to find out. I took my return receipt requested slip to the post office and apparently the package was never scanned and the post office had no record of it. They could’ve thrown it in the garbage for all I know.
They refused to give me my money back and lied and said it was not their responsibility. They said to give it another week. 3 weeks to ship to port washington from manhattan? I don’t think so.
Take my advice do not risk sending your package with these rude people.

I love this place and have been coming there for years. If you don’t have a doorman to receive packages, this place is the best — your stuff is safe and you pick up at your convenience for a minimum fee ($ 3 – 5).
This summer I had an air conditioner delivered and they even knew someone who would help get it back to my apt and up the stairs (a walk-​up). That was great!
Helen’s accent and attitude is fun – and all the personnel just know you by face and get your package before you even ask lol They also have cards, candles and shit like that. One time they packed a laptop for me — a fantastic job and worth the cost – nothing would happen to that sucker!
I just wish they could be open on Sundays again — but then, they need the time off :)

I recently purchased a bunch of stuff from Obscura and they suggested My Little Village to ship the items back to Boise. I was glad they did.
They were fairly busy when we got there and the owner asked if she could call us when they were done boxing up the items. We went for lunch and about ½ hour later they called to let us know the package was ready. The owner seemed very freaked out by a puppet that we had purchased. but not the skull, which seemed funny. The charge was what I expected for heavy items from NY to Boise. but I had no idea what to expect from the packaging and if it would all make it ok.
Once I got home the package showed up that same day and while it took me 15 minutes to remove all the packaging I was happy to see that they had really taken their time in making sure my package made it safe and sound. Will use them any time I need to make sure something gets from NY to Boise with care.

I actually like going there, and I go there a lot. The employees are cool and they play good music. I especially like the head honcho there, Hellen. She won’t let you use a cell phone in the store, but she’s fun to talk to and has a great NYC accent. You could make a little movie about this place. How many other shipping stores can you say that about?

I started renting a delivery box here several years ago when I started writing to a prisoner and wanted to be able to use an address other than my home. I like that the delivery address isn’t a dead giveaway, like «P.O. Box —» and anyway, I use the address mainly for receiving parcels now.
Because my building is a walkup with no doorman, I could pay a neighbor who’s always home to receive my parcels – and who’s always home nowadays, anyway? – or I can get delivery here. They receive UPS, FedEx, Parcel Post – or I guess they call it Media Mail nowadays – from Monday thru Saturday.
I’d so much rather go here than the post office – and I can bring my dog here. They love dogs!

Very friendly and pleasingly non-​corporate (though fully professional).
They have a package receiving list that’s very convenient – pay $ 10, and receive packages via their storefront for the rest of your life. They call you when you receive something. You pay $ 3-​$ 5 when you pick it up. Perfect for East Village dwellers who aren’t at home during the day. No more interminable waits at the 14^th st. post office to pick up socks from Aunt Mildred.
They do a nice, quick job of shipping UPS, Fed Ex, etc.
