Amazing service, and bagels! A HUGE selection of cream cheese, and a large variety of different options! Definitely coming back. Best bagel I have ever had! Totally loved it! I don’t usually write reviews, but I had to because this place is AMAZING!!!

This is the best bagels on the UES! Bagels are fresh, huge spread of cream cheeses, and the breakfast sandwiches are the best in the city!
The service from the staff is excellent and efficient. They are great with custom orders and are never stingy with the cream cheese /​toppings!
Mmmmmmm is all else I can say.

This place is ok, I go here because of location. This weekend when I went, I got two bagels with toppings and they switched which bagels had which toppings. Very frustrating. The bacon egg and cheese bagel is good and it’s the perfect brunch meal. I wish they had a few more bagel flavors to choose from. But decent place for a low key morning bagel.

The cream cheese spreads here make the place. They don’t have my favorite bagels in the neighborhood, but their bacon & scallion cream cheese and their cucumber/​dill are great. Plus, it’s usually less crowded than going a couple blocks farther up to H&H. I love H&H, but waiting through a line of 30+ people on the weekend isn’t worth it. East Side is a nice alternative and reasonably priced.

I don’t understand the bad reviews. It didn’t blow my mind, but it seemed like a solid place to get a bagel sandwich and coffee in the morning. The fresh juices are good, and the iced latte was better than expected.

Stale Bagels.
Got an Everything bagel with Scallion cream cheese and it costs $ 5.17 with tax, absurd pricing scheme. I took my first bite and realized that they definitely gave me a day old bagel. What a shame, so close to where I live but so stingy.
I won’t be returning and neither should you.

The salad portions seem to have gotten smaller lately.

At one point, I would have given this place three stars. Now, honestly, it’s lucky to get two.
I’ve been going to East Side Bagel for several years, since moving to the UES. In that time, I’ve watched it slowly go down the tubes. Not that this was ever on a level with Zabar’s or anything like that — but it was competent. Since changing management sometime last year, it’s really deteriorated. The food is acceptable but nothing special. And the ‘ambience’ is awful. I’m not sure how many art fans will read this… But are you familiar with Van Gogh’s painting «The Night Café?» Well… This place is The Night Café.
The only reason I go there at all anymore (and I rarely do) is because it’s close to where I live. Avoid this place if you can.

Best bagel place in the neighborhood in my opinion. I don’t get bagels often but when I do, this is the place I go despite out of the way– over any of the more convenient locations.
They also have great yogurt parfait, fruit salad, a number of pastries — fresh squeezed orange juice … And my latest find today–
Fresh squeezed juices made to order– the delicious carrot juice is what I had and it was great .
Highly recommend for bagels, fresh juices and other breakfast options !

Now called «Bagel Café» should be called Nickled & Dimed — Literally.
Wanted to charge me an extra dime to cut a bagel in half. Give me a break!!!
For a place where the bagels are average at best (even in the morning they are never warm), there are way too many bagel shops in a 5 block radius to patronize this place that seems to relish in charging high prices for mediocre food.
Will avoid until they change ownership or get sensible about pricing policies.

The everything bagel had far from everything. A couple of poppy and sesame seeds with no flavor to it. Also, the bagel was very chewy. I would not want to come here again.

A little overpriced but tasty. We got a bagel with bacon egg and cheese and the same on a crossiant. Both were tasty and satisfying. It is true that there are better bagels to be found on the UES but this place is not disappointing if you are nearby.

I’ve given up on this place. When you go in the store they are incredibly slow, even when I’ve been the only person there. The line is a mess when the place is crowded. The credit card minimum is illegal and obnoxious. The coffee is weak, and the iced coffee is basically water.
Don’t even think about getting delivery, they take forever (so your food is guaranteed to be lukewarm) and screw up constantly. We never get straws for our iced coffee, never any napkins and the food itself is always wrong (like missing sandwiches, the sandwiches we get are wrong). Clearly no one is checking the orders before they go out. Thank god for grubhub customer service.
The upside– the coffee cake is pretty good.

The plethora of UES bagel joints sets a pretty high bar, therefore — East Side Bagel isn’t a place I’d recommend:
Why?
1.) Medicore tasting bagels
2.) Really disorganized counter crew makes for a slow ordering process & staff frequently loose track of your order — ugh
I try this place every few months (since it’s close to me), but each time I’m bummed that the products haven’t gotten any better in taste (average deli coffee, mediocre bagels) and its counter staff and ordering process is frantic and disorganized. Thumbs down, sorry. :(
It’s worth the extra steps to go to the delicious Bagel Works on 1^st between 66^th and 67^th or H&H on 2^nd Ave in the 80’s.

This place has been redone and it looks A LOT nicer… but still seems sort of under construction. There are white paint spots on the wall and a pretty big hole above the refrigerated juices. Other than that, its definitely a lot brighter and cleaner looking than the past.
The bagels aren’t bad… the prices are a little high for a bagel store.

Sorry. Not impressed. Can’t complain about the bagels but the coffee either tastes really great or like battery acid. When they asked me what I wanted I told them and in the span of about 3 minutes they checked again and again… and again i.e. «with butter?» «No a schmere please» 30 seconds later: «with butter you said?»
…REALLY?
Each time I’ve been they charged me 3 different prices for the same exact thing. When I pointed it out they simply said «tax»…and that was that. I wasn’t aware that 100% tax applied in NY? I won’t be back. The dishonesty isn’t cool.

I was between 2 and 4 stars — 2 stars on the weekend, 4 during the week. I come here sometimes for egg whites and turkey bacon on a whole wheat everything with ketchup and hot sauce once a week and sometimes on Saturday’s. During the week when they aren’t crowded the food is what you’d expect from a New York bagel place and the bagels are fresh.
But on the weekends watch out! Long lines, slow service, and mixed up orders are just the start. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gotten home just to see regular eggs and uncooked turkey bacon on a bagel. It seems like they are either understaffed or their counter staff just doesn’t pay attention when you order.
They also have a $ 10 credit card minimum (up from $ 5 a few months ago). Totally illegal and not cool!

I’m having second thoughts about Eastside Bagels. I still like the bagels, and the location is still convenient, but their prices seem pretty high, and they could be less cranky. If the bagels were better and/​or cheaper I would put up with cranky, but not so much here.

I’m always let down to find bagels that aren’t up to snuff here in New York. but recently we stopped by here on a busy Saturday morning and discovered that to be the case.
no egg bagel? at 11 AM? alright, fine, cinnamon raisin it is. it was just… eh. not bad, but just tasted like flavored dough instead of that unique shock to the system (as Billy Idol himself may call it) that you get from a true New York bagel. Caroline wasn’t impressed with her bagel either.
the coffee was alright. again, kind of mediocre.
I’d blame it on being a slow day, but nope, it was Saturday morning, prime time. judging from some other recent reviews, it used to be pretty good but is slipping.
doubt I’ll be back.

Lox spread – I’m all about lox spread now. This was my first encounter with a real NY bagel and the whole salmon and cream cheese combo is to die for. They slather on the cream cheese too, they’re not shy about piling on that artery-​clogging spread and you couldn’t be happier ingesting such an authentic New York taste.
And if we could just talk about the bagel for one second… I’ve never had a bagel like this before. The texture inside was just chewy enough while the outside had a great crunchy crispiness that paired so wonderfully with the cream cheese. If I didn’t think this breakfast choice would go straight to thighs I probably would have wanted to order another one, perhaps with the blueberry cream cheese spread (which, in the tray, looks like gourmet gelato). They’ve got all kinds of other delicious-​looking baked goods and with such fast service at a reasonable price, lots of places to sit and perhaps read an old-​fashioned newspaper or just people watch, this is a great bagel shop on the upper east side.
