This location CLOSED on June 30th, 2015 after ten years. All good leases come to an end. The location at the 92nd Street Y on Lexington is still open as is Effy’s on the West Side(104 West 96th) and their new restaurant location: Le Souk at 103rd on Lexington.

Great atmosphere and food! I ordered an omelette and substituted the toast and potatoes for fruit. Very accommodating and kind.

It was okay, not a quick breakfast, coffee was average, food was average I personally would not go back

So good & reliably healthy food. Love the salads & breakfasts. Not too many healthy affordable options on the UEI. The owner is friendly too.

Effys is a nice casual spot to grab a coffee, a bite and maybe catch up on some work or reading. They do have free wifi but at times it can be shotty. When fresh, a lot of the food is pretty good and reasonably priced. Nothing stands out as spectacular but it is a good spot for the basics in the neighborhood.

One of the best places in the city to get bagel with salmon(much better than Russ, and less expensive). Attentive service. Free WiFi, working decently(passw: phone number!). Keep in mind: CASHONLY

Their smoked salmon sandwich is so good. So good that I want to order another. My girlfriend got the waffles and really enjoyed them. Their other items look great. I love that they have juices and smoothies as well. I can’t wait to come back.

We came here 4 or 5 times during our stay in NYC last winter. We were staying in the neighborhood so it was great to come again. It’s a good Wifi spot and the service is super fast ! We tried lots of stuff on the menu. Bagels, sandwich, yoga breakfast, french toast, granola, smoothies and juices. Every time the food was delicious. And what I loved about the hot drinks its that you don’t have to wait them to cool off a bit. It’s hot enough but not at a boiling point like in starbuck! I was a bit disappointed though by the size of the granola. I’ve tried the yoga version and the regular one, each time it was a bit too small. Also you have to know that you won’t find the regular breakfast here. Recipes are more original with a Mediterranean background. Which is OK when you know it but my first time I wanted a basic 2 eggs, bacon and cheese sandwich on a roll and I didn’t get it so… Now you know ;-) The place is nice and cosy, I just loved the wooden bench. They have a terrace in the summer that might be nice but as we went in winter, I can’t tell really. Also they only take cash, so be prepared ! This is always something disturbing for us European as we are used to use our credit card all the time. I will definitely go back again for the food, the WIFI spot and the low prices as well !

Effy’s is my go-to weekend spot! There’s not enough cafés like this anymore. Whether I stop in for a cup of coffee, or grab a salad for dinner, I’ve always been satisfied with my experience. The food is great, reasonably priced, and somewhat healthy. Plus, the staff is always friendly and welcoming. Cons: Cash only :(

Good coffee. Healthy and decent food. Free WiFi. Friendly staff. And when the weather is nice the whole front part opens up. It’s just a superb café! It has plenty of outlets as well if you want to sit and work on your laptop(believe me you won’t be the only one there). The only downside is they’re cash only.

Stopped in for a late breakfast Sunday morning. Be aware that they are cash only. Service was super fast. I had the Rise and Shine wrap which was tasty but on the small side. Coffee was good. I would definitely stop in again when I need a quick breakfast as the quality and atmosphere are way above Starbucks and Dunkin.

a great spot to hit up on the weekend. I’ve started coming here for a change of scenery from Starbucks when I have random odds and ends to take care of for work, etc. free wifi(score), relatively healthy food options, and generally cozy. i’ve not tried much of the food yet(only the Israeli salad, which was unfortunately a bit ‘meh’), but considering that the vast majority of their breakfast options somehow incorporate hummus, i’m a fan. NOTE: cash only.

Lovely little café in Yorkville with plenty of seating, so there’s no pressure to get up and go. They have free wifi but it’s a bit slow. Both indoor and outdoor seating is available. I had a mini cupcake and a chai latte — both were great. I can see myself coming here often to study/read/whatever.

They customer service was amazing. They greeted when we walked in and were there for every need we bad. But the food is horrible. The bacon was turkey bacon and it was facon! The lemonade was stale and sitting in the fridge probably over night. The house fries were soaked in grease but a weird tasty grease. There was also a hair in the turkey wrap. It was a really cute café in NYC and they were so nice but the food could have been waaaaaay better.

I love Effy’s! The food is consistently good, they have a huge variety, and they have lovely outdoor seating. I like getting the yogi breakfast, but their eggs and salads are great too. A nice place to sit and do work. Bring your dog and your appetite.

Friendly staff, very attentive. I loved the outdoor seating and the free wi-fi, that was definitely a plus! I ordered the Shakshuka for breakfast. It was just«ok» to me… nothing that really sticks out. One downfall is that they only accept cash… now-a-days people rely on credit/debit transactions.

I stay in the UES in the summers and am not impressed by the food choices here. Given, I may be spoiled by my favorable location around NYU for most of the year, but I still find the prices and small portions in this neighborhood to be unsatisfying. Effy’s is not particularly memorable in regards to food. However, it is still the place my sister and I order from the most when we stay together. To put it another way, it’s the most decent place within ten blocks, which gives it a 3.5. Plus, while I am not really compelled by wraps or salads, for some reason I find I their smoked salmon sandwich excellent. The sandwich alone ups the rating to a 4. Effy’s main charm lies in being a friendly neighborhood café, which I think it excels at, particularly since it is right next to megachain Starbucks. If I need to review material before a test, I would rather take a cup of coffee here and study than to the nearby NYPL. The quiet atmosphere and free wi-fi significantly bumps up the rating, in my estimation.

Effys… It always looked so cute so I always felt like I had to try it out. And I did, and it wasn’t bad. The food is good and the atmosphere is cute, clean, and friendly. The Israeli breakfast and shakshuka is amazing. Bagel with lox and cream cheese is ok, bagel wasn’t so great. The only thing that I didn’t like was the payment. Paying is weird because they don’t give you a formal check, yet they give you your meal then and there. It makes me confused as to whether this is a restaurant-style café or like a Starbucks order and go type of place. Also… No card. That makes it weird for me because if you’re place in the upper east side where most people want to just pull out their card and pay rather than get all the change back, wouldn’t it make sense to just accept card?

Finally! A real spring day to enjoy. Sundrenched blue sky and temps in the low 70’s. No way am I sitting inside today. Effy’s Café is a perfect little neighborhood spot to take in the fresh air with thier outside seating and full front opening windows. Had to kick back at a table outside for a healthy breakfast wrap. The Energy Wrap is a great way to start the day — eggs, sauteed spinach, smoked turkey, and cheddar cheese. Had them make it with egg whites and a spinach wrap. Along with a few cups of coffee I was energized and fueled up for my noon workout. Every neighborhood should have a go-to spot like this.
