AWESOME bartenders and great atmosphere for a low key evening. Great variety of beverages, the burgers were wonderful & the cheesecake was AMAZING. Will certainly be back.

I stopped in on a Monday night for some food and pints while awaiting the start of a show at the Beacon Theatre three blocks away. Great pub ambiance and decent pub grub. The attentive staff(Charlie and Charlie, Jr. [or is it Baby Charlie?]) took care of us so well, we came back in after the show for several more rounds! If you are heading to the Beacon, skip the too few, over-packed bars on Amsterdam and take the short one block walk down W 72nd St to the Emerald Inn. You won’t regret it.

The Emerald Inn gets 5 stars for its little bit of NYC crime history: in its former life as «W.M. Tweeds,» this bar was where Roseanne Quinn reportedly picked-up the man who’d kill her in her studio apartment that was located right across the street(West Pierre bldg.) Her life and death inspired the book and movie, «Looking for Mr. Goodbar.»(1975 flick that starred Diane Keaton.)

One of the best local spots on the UWS. John behind the bar is a delight! Comfortable atmosphere, friendly people, couldn’t ask for more. I’m in the neighborhood and glad I found my «local». Worth the trip down 72nd street.

Had a very good meal here tonight. The lentil soup, meatloaf and mashed potatoes were excellent. Courtney was a great server and very personable. Nice pub atmosphere.

I don’t mind a mediocre meal and drinks, but don’t want to pay prices more in line with an exceptional dining experience. Way overpriced for what you are getting. They somehow manage to pack the place, so they are doing something right. Just haven’t figured it out.

We stopped in here as it was across from where we’d eaten and thought it might be a good place to wet our whistle. I was shocked by the 4 drinks(2 spirits &2 beers) coming to $ 30, but as we learned very quickly this seems to be the norm in New York. The lady behind the bar is in fact Irish and was lovely too. They we’re showing the Rose Bowl while we were there which was nice to sit in a bar and watch some sports(even though I’ve no idea how American Football works). The place was clean and busy enough for the time of day.

The bartender thought we were too drunk to notice that he over charged us. When we asked him he very(too) quickly admitted it.

Local bar. Staff are friendly and it’s quiet enough to talk. Not for a wild night but will keep coming back.

Ordered the mussels w/white wine for appy. Delicious. Just like I would make at home had fresh herbs and a hint of heat from pepper flakes. Dinner excellent. Cajun catfish. Can’t wait to see another show at the Beacon Theater so I can have dinner here.

Dropped in for a pint one afternoon. Reminded me of a lot of local UWS establishments: Irish pub, filled with locals, pub food, kind of dark, everyone seems to know everyone else, a little bit dreary and sad, no one will bother you if you don’t bother them. I thank places like Emerald Inn for existing in a pinch.

Very poor attempt at stealing from the bartender. Provided our group of 6 with a inflated $ 189 bill, refusing to provide the breakdown. Proceeded to charge my card, then when one of my friends wanted to put $ 55 on his card, charged that and gave us a new bill for $ 160. So 189 – 55 is apparently $ 160. Promptly apologized and then handed us a bill for $ 134, which was still more than double than what it was worth but we didn’t feel like arguing. Now we check our credit card statements to see that we have charges for $ 189, $ 55AND $ 134. Only way we are coming back here is with cops and a DA.

Been three times, but won’t be coming back. The beer is fine, but I can’t abide the poor service throughout this establishment. At first I thought it was part of its rustic charm, but I’ve now concluded that they don’t like their customers very much at all. Food is average at best, but you can get average food at most places and usually at better prices.

Will not be coming back. 8 beers @ $ 7 each on a slow mid-day lunch and zero buy backs?! Not even one. News flash Emerald– if you want return customers(specially lushes who will spend money while most are at work making it), treat ‘em right at least the first time around and then gouge them later. They take pride in their burger which is really nothing special at all but at least the fries are good.

Stopped in on Friday night. The good news is, it was relatively busy(not SRO, but a butt in every seat), so it had just the right level of energy for this old codger. The bad news is, every time I go to this bar I feel like I’m in some sort of twilight zone. Owners, I know you’re reading this, so hear me out. I want to update my review back to 5 stars. First of all, arriving at 11pm on a Friday night, the kitchen was closed. Why? Is it always like that? I’m still in NYC right? OK; if closing the kitchen is necessary, at least put out some bar snacks or something. Second, the bar was understaffed; John the bartender is great, but try getting his attention from the far end of that long bar when it’s a full house. What’s worse is, I’ve been in on a sleepy afternoon when they were clearly overstaffed, and that staff seemed uninterested in leaving their perch at the back of the room to greet the shlub who wanted to sit in the front of the room and have a burger and a Guinness. Sure, maybe they don’t need my business on a Friday night, but on a Sunday afternoon isn’t it kinda fun to have a 3rd customer? Emerald, you got something good, and maybe you can coast on whatever that is, but as a sample of one I can tell you I’d come in 10x more often, friends and coworkers in tow, if I thought I could trust your staff to be more attentive and welcoming and sensibly scheduled. I know I’m a whiny b*tch on Unilocal, but in person I’m a low maintenance customer. Get me a beer and a burger and ask me if I want another beer when it’s empty. That’s it. I’m even a good tipper. But I feel invisible whenever I walk in to the Emerald, to the point where I start to question my sanity and the efficacy of my deodorant.

I loved it here and didn’t have a problem. All the negative reviews are definitely not accurate. Hi Charlie ;)
