Horrible customer service — had questions and got the most snarky responses. Save your money and frustration and go somewhere else!

I live in NYC, and I’m guessing like many people who live here, I’m always looking for ways to maximize my space/​storage. I decided I wanted a bed with drawers underneath. When I asked the sales associate if she could show me any queen-​sized beds with built-​in storage, she laughed at me and said «We only carry those for children.» How Rude. Lost my business.

I was looking for a new sofa and two chairs. So I walked in the 3^rd Abe store. Was in the store all of 2O minutes. No one said a word to me. The where 5 people huddled around the front reception Area. Not one hello. Or a welcome. I was shocked. And disappointment at same time. I have been a shopper of Ethan Allen for the two decades.
When leaving I received a half smile from someone at the front desk. A black women with a two tone hair. I will take my business to Stamford Ct.

Let me start by saying great quality and great salesman but… Waiting 12+ weeks is ridiculous! Spending close to 10k on a dining room set you would think they would bend over backwards to make me happy. Nope… They called me on a Monday and said the truck would be in my Zone in 9 days!!! So my furniture that I waited over 3 months for was finally in but I couldn’t have it! I pleaded with them and even offered to go pick it up myself to get it sooner because I needed it for a graduation party. They said no!!! I couldn’t even pick up my own furniture, it was being held hostage until my Zone came up.
Never ever again will I shop at Ethan Allen! It’s over. It’s exhausting and not enjoyable.
Didriks is an amazing shopping experience in the Boston area and EA would be wise to take a few lessons in customer service!!!

Quality of customer service is hit or miss, and needs serious improvement. While some of the salespeople are helpful and knowledgeable, many are curt and act like they’re doing you a serious favor by assisting you with spending thousands of dollars on furniture.
A review on a product I recently purchased — a cream sofa. The first time I had guests over, the blue from their blue jeans rubbed off on the couch, ruining the fabric. I went to the store and asked what I could do about this. They disclaimed any knowledge about this and refused to provide any suggestions for where I could go for help, saying they can’t tell me what to do because they can’t take liability for any further damage. Hmmm… Anyway, I would have liked to be told when I bought the sofa that it could be ruined within the first week of use.
Oh yeah, and it took MONTHS to receive delivery of the sofa in the first place. A lot of waiting for nothing.
Furniture design, however, is excellent.

Worst customer service ever. I spent so much money on couches that I have owned for less than a year that look like they’re 10 yrs old. I only sit on the couches for about 2 hours a day. Beautiful designs but couches do not last long and not worth the price you pay. You have to call 100 times before you reach the same person that helped you when you were in the store. They never return your calls. Stay away!!! You don’t get what you want or what you were promised. I truly regret buying my couches from Ethan Allen and I will never buy anything from this company again, nor recommend them to any friends or family.

Extremely bad customer service onsite. After placing a $ 6,000+ order 2 months ago I went back to purchase a vase I’d seen in a magazine. They had it on display at the store. They told me I still had to order it and wait 7 – 10 weeks to have it delivered. Because it is a show room. It’d understand if it was the only one on display. But they had 8 of them on a shelf in the store!!! I’ll just go to Bo Concept instead.

Saw a sofa on their website, made an appointment with a «designer» to look at it in the store. Confirmed appointment that day.
When I got there, he said, «Oh, I don’t know if we have that one on the floor.»
!!!
«Let me go check,» he said. From the time it was taking, I realized he had wasted my time.
Turns out — they don’t even sell it anymore!
The words airhead, ditz and incompetent come to mind …
I see from other posts what delivery is like with these people — maybe just as well they didn’t have what I wanted.

Why didn’t I heed the warnings on Unilocal?I ordered a bedroom set in early April. It’s August and they’re still telling me «2 more weeks». This is how they treat customers who spend, literally, thousands of dollars on furnishings.

Bought a leather recliner here for a hefty sum. Had an excellent shopping experience. However, when delivered months later the leather was not upholstered well: it was bunched up, uneven tucks, bumps & creases as though it had been used. My complaint brought immediate action from the store by referring it for service. Eventually the issue went to the regional service center for the northeast. The rep there lied to me; I didn’t want the recover job done by a difficult to deal with subcontractor in CT who I had no confidence in. I was assured the recliner would go to regional EA headqtrs to be recovered. After 2 weeks I learned the recliner never went to headqtrs — it was in CT, was not being recovered because new leather wasn’t as nice as old, and was being returned to me. I WAS NEVER GIVEN A SAMPLE OF THE NEW LEATHER SO I COULD DECIDE FOR MYSELF. Recliner was returned with scratches, creases and looking worse for wear.
To EA’s credit I was offered a generous refund. But this doesn’t make up for being lied to, deliberately going against my wishes, and returning a chair in worse shape that I will not be able to enjoy. I WILL NEVER SHOP AT EA AGAIN NOR RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE!

I’ve shopped at Ethan Allen many times and they have great designers who help you find the right look and feel you want. I’ve only had positive experiences with the service in the store and through customer service.

The worst customer service in the world! The first sales person was very pushy and aggressive which i didnt like at all. Then when I came home and checked my receipt i saw something extra furniture was charged I didn’t order. I called the store manager and complain about it. I cancelled whole order and was going to go to a different store but she convinced me to try another person. I liked their furniture so I did listen to her. It was wrong decision. The second sales person was so lazy. She didn’t communicate with me at all after she sold a lot of furniture to me. She didnt call me when the furniture was ready to deliver. I waited almost 3 months and finally had to email her and asked where is my furniture. She never emailed me back! I called the manager. They told me the sales person forgot to call & tell me that the furniture would be delivered late. I couldn’t believe it. They charged before furniture delivered in 4 months though! I wish I could cancell my order. I don’t want to give the sales person the commission at all. I will never shop Ethan Allen again. They even didn’t apologized. I think they will be bankcrupt in the future because they are the worst store in the world.

We had a great experience here. I never write reviews on Unilocal,but since most here about Ethan Allen are negative (and almost dissuaded us from buying), I felt compelled to share our experience.
Similar to the last guy, we only bought a bed. The store was nice and clean and well laid out, we love the bed and were able to customize the fabric, everyone in the store was really nice and helpful, and we ultimately decided to purchase despite the reviews. As is the case with most furniture stores, the delivery was expected to take a couple months but we got a call in the 4^th week and had it beginning of the 5^th. The delivery guys were efficient and did a good job without causing any damage.
Yes the bed was pricey, but it was half the price of similar beds in the city (like Bloomingdales) which didn’t have any customization options.
All in all, a great experience and would definitely recommend!

Beware! I walked in to the store prepared to spend a certain amount on an accent chair and the sales woman pressured me into buying something about $ 200 out of my budget. I agreed because I felt that the chair would last me a long time, and I loved the design and fabric selection. Fast forward to check out time. I had some questions about delivery, and they told me that the deliveries happen in the morning. I asked if I could schedule a time slot for later (I am at work from 7am — 3:30pm at the earliest). The sales person said no and then suggested that I take a day off from work because the delivery people like to finish their work before noon (I’m a special education teacher and am not going to leave my class alone so I can wait for a furniture delivery — priorities people). I threatened to cancel my order and the manager came over and said that something could be arranged.. . probably. Neither the staff person nor the manager were able to tell me if they had Sunday delivery available (they have Saturday, but I’m Shomer Shabbat). It was now 5 minutes to closing and they basically said that it would work out, without giving me a clear plan as to how I would get my furniture. They had already charged my card a deposit and told me that I had 72 hrs to cancel without penalty. After the managers dismissal of my delivery concerns I decided not to waste any more time. I left the store knowing that I would cancel my order the next morning, and I did!

I had a totally fine experience here. They said it would be 4 – 6 weeks before my bed arrived, but it showed up pretty quickly (they called to schedule a week after I ordered). Quality seems great.
Delivery and installation were free, too.
Really, my only gripe here is that the stuff is disgustingly expensive. I can’t believe I spent this much money for a bed. It’s embarrassing. But it is a badass bed.

I don’t recommend this company. I ordered from them because I wanted only American made bedroom furniture, and I was willing to pay a lot more for it. Apparently, I am a huge sucker. One piece of furniture arrived broken, so I refused delivery. They said they would take it back and repair it, but when it was redelivered, it had not been repaired. I called customer service and they apologized and said they would refund my credit card for the cost of the damage so I could get it repaired myself. It’s been weeks, and my phone calls and emails to remind them that they owe me a partial refund go unanswered. If you do any sort of internet search on Ethan Allen you will find many, many stories like this. I wish I had checked Unilocal and other places before I spent $ 6,000. Boo, hiss!

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER. Don’t order from here if you 1) want your furniture in time or 2) don’t want your apartment ruined
I bought an entire bedroom set from Ethan Allen back in February. It costs me nearly $ 10,000 and it is the biggest regret of my life.
First, I was told the furniture would be delivered in 8 – 12 weeks. My furniture did not arrive till July! No one would offer me an explanation as to when the furniture would be delivered, except that «it’s not ready yet»
Second, the rude and awful deliverymen made a dent in my walls and caused a big portion of the paint to chip off. I had recently moved into a new apartment and completely renovated the entire place (including getting colored paint on the walls). I told the movers to be very careful and they were not careful at all, dropping heavy wood beams on the new floors and propping sharp edges up on the walls.
Not only are the deliverymen incompetent, the Corporate headquarters are dismissive and inconsiderate. As soon as they left, I saw the dent and immediately called the Ethan Allen distribution site to let them know what happened. I explained the situation carefully to the person on the phone and was told to leave a message. I left one… no one responded. I called back the next day and asked to talk to a supervisor but was again ignored. This has happened a few times and NO ONE has ever called me back to even offer a simple apology. I realize that accidents may happen with furniture deliveries but a mere «sorry» would be nice.
