We had to meet some friends close by and simply ran into this place. I thought the Gyro that we got was really good, it was only $ 4, which was a surprise. I wanted it spicy and they made it spicy. Pretty good Halal Cart :)

I randomly eat street meat at street carts all over Manhattan and Brooklyn. This is definitely one of the better places. Dude who wrote the other day had to have hit them on a bad day.

Not affiliated to the massive XPL halal food cart chain all over New York City, this ominous red truck on the South-east corner of 33rd St. and 6th Ave. sits there to prey on tourists. I was on my way to Koreatown, when I spotted this truck with a small following of 4 – 5 people waiting in line. So I decided to make a detour and give this place a try. «Chicken over rice please, with white and hot sauce.» I handed over my $ 5.00, and I was in and out in less than 5 minutes. What I got was a standard-sized white styrofoam platter that felt pretty weighty. On one side, we have a healthy serving of boring chopped lettuce with half a slice of tomato. Although the vegetables were fresh and without a hint of browning, it was just too plain and unappealing. On the other ¾ of the container, we have yellow basmati rice that had distinct spices complimented with sauteed green peppers and onions, but that’s where it ended. The dark meat was tender but lacked in taste and erred on the bland side. Sometimes the white sauce can help to accentuate the flavor of the chicken, but not in this case, as I found it to be slightly liquid in consistency without a lot of flavor. However, the hot sauce, although not spicy at all, did have good flavor to heighten this rather bland dish. Portions were decent, but overall, I was a bit disappointed.
